13 - The 3 hours you spent rehearsing in the bathroom mirror paid off?

"Kamino is under attack, I repeat, Kamino is under attack!"

Overhaul watched the television intently as the camera scrambled around, or rather, the person holding the camera shook from atop the helicopter, from either fright or general lack of professionalism.

He'd seen this all before, animated and colored and with some kind of aspect of childish plot, where this was all a joke, a form of entertainment.

Now, being the spectator instead of the spectated, he saw the appeal in observing the chaos unfolding while knowing exactly how it will all unfold.

All he had to do at present was to wait patiently until AFO and OFA clashed, and it all came tumbling down, because broken societies are the ones easiest to overtake. Of course, he knew that things didn't cease on his end, either; the quirk-erasing bullets were complete, and now all he had to do was create a more permanent alternative. With that done, his plan will be set into motion with nothing to stop it.

This news was, in fact, a good thing for Overhaul. It reassured him that the invasion at USJ wasn't just a freak incident, and that this was indeed all aligning with the tellings of the anime he'd practically studied religiously over the past few weeks. It had been 6, maybe 7 months since it first came into his possession, and that was more than enough time to commit it all to memory.

Leaning back into his chair, a faint smirk of satisfaction hidden behind his ever-present mask, Overhaul told himself that all was going well-

"Right?! Hari, I know for a FACT that his squeaky clean ass office is on the left, look, you just walk past here and twirl around and- Oh, fuck! Bae, you're right, it's right... Ah, right is right!"

Oh dear.

Just as the loud, annoyingly energetic voice announced for all to hear, you burst into the room, trailed by a somewhat nervous Kurono, who was already rehearsing a string of apologies your brash actions.

"Okay, so here's the deal, Overhoe," you stomped around, finally putting your foot down and with both hands on your hips, accentuating the name as if to prove you're following in Rappa's footsteps, "I want out. Of this base, and I need some sunlight, some fresh air, anything. Ask Hari here, I'm a wonderful fighter who can easily kick ass, and I'm officially part of the Shie Hassakai, no? That automatically means you must have some kind of a mission for me. Y'know, I don't like to beg, but I can get on my knees-"

Kurono was quick to get you to quiet down. "(l/n), what did we say about the rambling?"

"Not to do it?" you attempted. "My bad, my bad. Look, Sir, I don't think me being cooped up here is helping anyone at all, so if you could just-"

"And the oddly shaped creatures, last spotted at the USJ raid-"

Overhaul turned off the television hastily before you could process what was said. He thought you might've heard the 'USJ' part, but your expression just turned into a frown, you said something about "didn't take the Overhaul to be the type to watch T.V.," and moved on.

He assumed you might've pieced it together before, that he and his colleagues were aware that your story about them being from a form of television back in your dimension that predicted everything to come here, but he didn't want to reveal that to you just yet. He didn't see any harm in you figuring it out; after all, the rest of the Eight Bullets had asked you before about what happened in the supposed show they were a part of, and so far the characters and their personalities align. However, in your view, everyone in the facility doubts that your words are true. If you knew they were convinced you were right, then your demeanor might flip from "please believe me, I'm useful" to "I'm right, I know how this all plays out, and now I should look for help".

To be completely honest, either way you were no threat. As far as the golden-eyed man was concerned, you aren't even capable of tying your shoelaces without leaning up against a wall. It's not like you'd be able to successfully escape, let alone bring his downfall.

"Back to what I was saying before your television rudely interrupted me," you insisted, pulling him back from his thoughts, "I am ready for the field. Just ask Hari."

Overhaul turned towards the mentioned man, who hesitantly agreed. "Her hitman skills from long-range and mid-range are, as expected, non-existent. However, with a great deal of practice on hand-to-hand combat, she has developed quite a bit, and she's the perfect opponent for emitter-type quirks, who usually rely entirely on their quirk for battles."

He wasn't considering this point for long. "She has no experience with emitter-type quirks, though."

"Well, that much is expected, I haven't been outside of this goddamn place ever since I got here, what, a year ago?" you retorted. "If you let me out to go fight some low-level thugs, I'll get the experience needed to go on bigger and more important missions."

"I refuse. I can't trust that you won't run, and the only reason you've been exempted from the trials regarding the quirk-erasing bullets is your cooperativeness. Now, cooperate and go back to your room."

"I refuse your refusal," you snapped back. "I'm leaving this place, I've been cooperating for long enough and it's time for me to get out. You say "cooperate", but that goes both ways. This isn't cooperation, this is... some kind of fucking game. I'm leaving the facility, and you can't stop me, is that clear? I'm not wasting any more of not only my youth but my time in a superhero dimension getting locked up. Now, I'm giving you two options: either you cooperate, and let me go out, kick some ass on your behalf, then come back, or I'm going to leave and never return, leaving you with the option of either killing me or letting me go."

You were clearly worked up over this, and he couldn't say he didn't see that coming. You were human, just like everyone else, and you don't do well with being locked up. No matter how much leniency Overhaul gave you, it wouldn't be freedom. You'd gotten your fun, fighting and training and all that, but it was inevitable that you'd demand to leave.

What bothered the man in charge was not what you said, but how you said it.

Like you were the one in charge.

He didn't like it, not one bit, but then again, you were still harmless, so he'd let it pass.

"Fine," he said, after a moment of silence. "You may go at dawn, but you must be back at dusk."

"Okay, first of all, who are you, my mom? Second, just a friendly reminder that I don't know the time around here, there are no windows and I don't have a watch or a clock."

You kept pushing, but he kept his cool. You were expendable, dispensable at any moment, and so there's no harm in letting you stumble around and pretend you owned the place.

"I'll have Kurono escort you out when the time is right."

Suppressing a squeal of excitement, you nodded intelligently, then skipped out of the room, proud of yourself for actually executing your plan that you'd spent about 3 hours practicing in the bathroom mirror to make sure you sounded as badass as possible.

Kurono stayed behind while you walked out of earshot.

"Are you sure you're alright with letting her leave?" he asked, always loyal to his cause.

"Of course not," he mused, "but one of the captives tried to hang themselves yesterday. They didn't succeed, but it's a sure sign that we can't afford to lose any more sources for the quirk-erasing bullets."

"Can't we ask the dimension-quirk user to get us more subjects?"

He shook his head. "He's reached his limit. He says that he can't transport more than 5 people at a time, and we've reached that threshold. He'll stay alive for the time being, just as a precaution, but that doesn't mean he's reliable. (l/n) cannot be allowed to die before the formula is perfected for permanent use, and if she really is as promising on the field as you suggested, she can become a valuable asset, even after."

"Is there anything you need me to do?"

"Tonight, when she goes out, follow her. Pro heroes coming to the base would be a pain I would much rather avoid, and if she alerts the authorities, that means we won't have access to her DNA in case of another subject's death. She also has known the members of the Yakuza to be antagonists, so she would be inclined to believing she can simply gain our trust and leave. So, keep her in line from afar."

Kurono nodded, somberly because the idea that you could be planning to escape sounded odd to him, after all this time and effort he'd spent on you. But, his boss was right.

"Understood."
