06 - How does one answer your question without sounding insane?

Explain this? Explain this? How can you fucking explain this?!

Your hand reached out to touch the object on the table; your phone. The screen was displaying a sketch of Overhaul, the date indicating that the picture was taken 2 months ago.

You already knew what you were going to find, but you swiped to the side, and glanced at the rest of the pictures. There were screenshots of memes and fan art of several of the members of the Shie Hassakai, the League of Villains, class 1-A, some pro heroes and other animes entirely.

You scrolled back to the screenshot of the Overhaul fan art, flipped your phone around, and put it back down on the table. You tried to seem as uninterested as possible, going through the right response in your head.

'I told you that you're all fictional characters'

'How'd that get there?'

'Yeah, it's a picture of you, dumbass. Take a wild guess as to what it could mean'

"What is there to explain?" you eventually shrugged, choosing a more laid-back approach to your answer. "You're smart enough to realize what this means, aren't you?"

Overhaul's still gaze didn't waver, and Chrono was the one to speak. "We were searching through your personal items, and discovered your phone, and then these... pictures. We--"

"Look!" you interrupted the arrow-haired male by swiping your phone from the table and searching for a picture of him. "I didn't forget you, either"

You could've sworn he was blushing and clenching his jaw at the same time. "That is irrelevant. Where did you get these drawings?"

"The internet" you rolled your eyes. "Surely, you have that in this dimension, don't you?"

"So you're saying... these drawings of us are... publicized images, accessible to all?"

You nodded. "Look, I click on this app" - you pressed on your web browser - "and you type in 'bnha' or 'mha', then your names. In my dimension, you'll get a lot of content. Pictures and drawings, too"

"Show us" Overhaul chimed in.

You bit your lip. Is your phone still connected to your dimension? If so, then, technically, you could call people across dimensions; you could still contact people you used to know. Waving away this thought from your mind, you typed in "bnha Overhaul", and pressed "enter".

The results that appeared were the exact same as they were last month.

"There it is" you showed them. "Your entire life story, shared with the people from my dimension"

Overhaul didn't lift a finger, Chrono being the one who took the object from your hand. They are definitely going to be finding some... uh... questionable stuff. Thankfully, Chrono only started by scrolling through the pictures.

Being the impatient man he is, Overhaul snatched the phone from his hands and started to flip through it, his gloves fingers hovering over the screen. For a moment, you could've sworn he was angry, then he might've been blushing, then he just seemed damned confused. Of course he did. It's not everyday that you discover that you're an anime character and that people from another dimension draw fan art of you.

"There's more, you know. You guys have a lot of fans" you have no clue why you'd said that, but you couldn't help but notice the shades of pink dusting on his face. Chrono was luckier; his mask was covering most of his face. But you could practically hear them blushing.

Overhaul cleared his throat. "What... why are there... explain this immediately" he struggled for the right words, and you think this is definitely the first time you'd ever seen him flustered.

He turned the screen towards you, and seemed very uncomfortable. You leaned closer in order to see what he was showing you, and you saw...

... some 'Chrono x Overhaul' ship art.

Okay, that must've been borderline traumatizing for these two to randomly find a bunch of doodles of them kissing, holding hands, and such. You couldn't help but laugh.

"Pffft, yeah, there's that. If it makes you feel any better, this is pretty tamed compared to the other stuff out there"

"How is that supposed to make me feel any better? And what other stuff--"

"I don't exactly think I'm going to be getting my phone back any time soon, so why don't you just scroll through that on your free time? Don't say I didn't warn you about the... uh... less pure parts of the fandom"

"Stay. You don't have anywhere better to be, do you?"

"..." He did have a point.

Then, you remembered something that could really help you out.

"May I please have the phone?" you reached out your hand. "There's something important I need to check"

"What is it?" Chrono asked.

"You're anime characters. There's your proof. If my phone is still connected to my dimension's internet, I'm sure there's a way for us to access the manga series, no?"

"..." Both men stared at you for a few seconds.

"No. Return to your room immediately. We will take it from here" Overhaul ordered.

Bitch, what? You wanted me to stay like 5 seconds ago.

"What, so that I can continue the rest of my day doing nothing?" your voice was a lot louder than you'd intended, but you really couldn't find it in yourself to give a damn. "Everything I told you... there's your motherfucking proof! I've literally just given you the tools you need in order to not loose your goddamned arms, get arrested, and lose everything you've ever worked for, and your response is to send me... to my fucking room?!"

He didn't seem fazed in the least. He just kept staring at you with those intoxicating amber eyes. Chrono got up, and pulled out a gun.

You'd forgotten about those.

Nodding obediently, you followed him out the room. Surely, they'll realize that...

... realize what? They don't need you anymore. You said that you have information for them, and your dumb ass just gave them access to everything. You have absolutely no leverage, and, to make matters worse, now a group of villains know about AFO, OFA, and that Midoriya will kick his ass later. So will Shigaraki. Overhaul is smart; if the manga says that Shigaraki and Midoriya are threats, he'll eradicate them immediately. Knowing the future is a powerful weapon, but if he changes his behavior, then the BNHA plot might get messed up.

And it'll be your fault.

"Ms. (l/n)? Are you feeling all right?" Chrono's voice brought you back from your thoughts.

"Yeah!" you chirped maybe a bit too quickly... and since when do they care about your feelings? "Uh... Chrono? Can I ask you a question?"

"..." he kept silent, but didn't say no.

"What's... what's going to happen to me now? I mean, you guys thought I was bluffing with my 'you are anime characters' speech, but now you've got concrete evidence, right? Does that change anything? Or will I still--"

"We've arrived" he cut you off, gesturing to your door. "We will let you know any information you need to know"

Yeah, because I don't need to know my own fate.

You averted your gaze, and looked back towards the door he'd opened for you. Drug dealing and murder aside, a lot of the members of the Yakuza that you'd met were super polite and gentlemen. It was kinda... cute.

You entered your room, which was just as empty as when you left it. You'd been so mesmerized with the luxurious bed, the pristine closet full of clothes and the overall quality of the room that you completely forgot just how empty it felt. And no amount of money could fix that.

Spotting the pillow on the ground, where you'd left it from this morning, you leaned down to grab it. The fabric crinkled at your touch, your tight grip lifting it off the cold ground. You rolled onto the bed and held the pillow against your chest, pressing it against you with all the energy you had left. You weren't going to cry, just hold onto it. Hold onto the pillow. Hold onto it because you've already lost all grip on reality. Hold onto it because it feels real. Hold onto it because it's so simple; it's an object. It's a pillow. It does nothing all day except get thrown around and slept on. That's it. Nothing complicated, nothing confusing, nothing extravagant, just laying there.

You really wished you were a pillow right now.

You curled up onto the bed, not even bothering to throw the cover over your body, and soon fell into oblivion.

Overhaul was not liking what he was seeing. There were quite a bit of drawings of him without a mask, and he didn't exactly know how to feel about that. His eyes were fixed on the screen, and he demanded that a device to charge it be fetched immediately in order to make sure it doesn't run out of battery. He just couldn't find it in himself to remove his gaze from the intoxicating screen, his fingertips scrolling until he felt tired.

These people are sick.

Once he'd gotten his fill of images, feeling convinced that this was not some convoluted prank, he started selecting the articles. The first thing to pop up was...

...an analysis of him?

There was quite a bit of information, including his full name, quirk description, height, eye color, status and voice actors.

Status and voice actors?

His brow furrowed in confusion; what could they possibly mean by that?

Overhaul's status was 'alive [Imprisoned]', and he apparently had not one, but two voice actors. He simply didn't have any words to describe the feelings and thoughts rummaging through his brain.

(y/n) wasn't lying.

But, if (y/n) wasn't lying, then that means...

He continued to scroll down, and found yet another picture of him. His typically unwavering expression was morphed into one of fear. He looked absolutely disgusting, pitiful, vulnerable

No. This isn't me. It can't be.

Another man was on top of him, maniacally laughing. Overhaul wasted no time in memorizing the face of this man, so that, should he meet him in real life, he may give him a... proper greeting.

It'll be a very brief greeting.

Some more surveying of this inter-dimensional internet showed him something else; the manga.

Let's just say that Overhaul's duties were put aside for a few moments while he did some reading on his future.

-

You woke up to the sensation of sweaty chills.

The pillow had fallen out of your grasp during your slumber. You brushed off some drool from the corner of your mouth; you must've really slept well, then. You had no clue if you'd slept in, woken up early, maybe this was a mid-day nap, you really didn't know. The only thing you knew for sure was that you were still in the Yakuza hideout, in a different dimension, kidnapped, with...

...a punching bag?

Once your eyes fully registered what you were seeing, you blinked a couple of more times.

There is a punching bag in the middle of your fucking room.

Your legs swayed to the side of the bed as you redirected your position to a sitting one, limbs feeling more like dead meat than part of you. Everything was numb, but that didn't stop you from making contact with the cold floor with your bare toes and feeling the shivers traverse your skin, hairs perking up on your legs. Lifting yourself up and walking cautiously towards the foreign object in the middle of your room, you confirmed that it was indeed a punching bag. What in the actual fuck?

Beside it, there was more; a little booklet, some weights and gym clothes. Curious, you leaned down and took the book in your hand and opened it. The first page had some Japanese markings that you somehow knew how to read;

'Martial arts for beginners'

For some odd reason, you felt the blood rushing to your face; they actually did that. Overhaul must've presumed that you wanted to learn how to fight from Rappa, and this is his way of saying 'thank you' without letting you out of your room.

A compromise.

You didn't take Overhaul for the type to compromise. It's really quite weird, meeting him 'in real life'.  Sure, you'd thought that he was hot before, but now it doesn't exactly feel right. Everything was so much more real now; him abusing Eri, kidnapping strangers to experiment on them, his ruthlessness, everything. He wouldn't hesitate to kill you, and back when he was a fictional character, you would thought something like "He could kill me and I'd say thank you".

Back when the idea that he could kill you was absurd.

Maybe this - the mini self-training kit - was a step in the right direction? Maybe he still hasn't hurt Eri yet. Maybe he still hasn't turned completely evil. Maybe there's something you could do to give the BNHA plot a push in the right direction.

Maybe you would be the first one to truly decipher Chisaki Kai.

Maybe you could save him from himself.
