chapter 66

KHALID

"Where is our own?" I questioned Bimpe who only smiled sheepishly at me before answering.

"If your girlfriend is kind enough then you'll get your share, but for now I only brought Kunmi's food," she ended it with a sly smile before serving her own food too, leaving Abee and I salivating.

"Oga oo, we that our girlfriend didn't do home management practical now won't eat abi?" Abee voiced out.

"Who is the we? As far as I'm concerned, you're the only one here whose girlfriend didn't do practical," I retorted, and he glared at me.

"We are not different, we are both hungry right now while Kunmi is busy eating ravenously like the wolf he his without considering our feelings."

That finally got a response from Kunmi who had been quiet and focused on his food all the while, "Did I koba you?"

Abee opened his mouth to reply but I beat him to it, "What of Kikiope?"

"She's on my head, how many times will I tell you she's still serving the teachers?" Bimpe snarled before taking a sip from her orange juice.

"What of Doyin?" Abee queried before I could reply Bimpe and it was crystal clear his question was meant to get a reaction from Bimpe and she didn't fail in doing so.

She dropped her plastic cup and clapped sarcastically, "So, I look like girlfriend keeper now abi, how many times will I tell you she's helping Kikiope pack her loads? Oga ooo? If any of you should ask me any stupid question again ehn?"

"Are you okay?" Kunmi queried and Bimpe cast him a bemused look.

"What do you mean?"

"You said not to ask a stupid question, so, I'm trying to sound reasonable."

Bimpe pursed her lips, "It's like the pepper in that soup is getting into your head, did I direct my words to you?"

A tugging smile appeared on Kunmi's face as he proceeded to respond but the appearance of Kikiope and Doyin stopped him from talking.

"You guys are not eating?" Kikiope questioned as she looked from me to Abee.

"Bimpe didn't give us food oo, she's been rubbing it on our face since," Abee replied and Bimpe eyed him.

"Am I your girlfriend?" She shot back.

"Don't worry, we brought food for you unlike Bimpe," Kikiope interjected as she placed the cooler I hadn't noticed on the table while Doyin dropped the basket on the table too.

"See, you'll enjoy than Kunmi, starting from your appetizer, we have watermelon drink and small chops, main dish is coconut rice and chicken and dessert is meat pie and coconut milk," Kikiope explained and Abee literally screamed his lungs out while I smiled.

"Just because of food you're behaving like an animal," Bimpe fired while eyeing him.

"Are we not animals? It's just that we're higher ones," Abee retorted and Bimpe glared at him.

"Time for food oo," I shouted.

"I can't believe we want to study together for what we're rivalling for," I started as we both headed to the library.

She gave a short laugh, "Like we're actually going there to study."

I smiled, "But then, today is Wednesday, why can't they just allow us go to our clubs and societies or rather have socials?"

She turned to me, "Exam is fast approaching, we did talent hunt last week remember?"

"But you should have convinced them for socials this week."

"See lazy students, it's only fun they know," she mocked and I chuckled.

"But which one is interclass quiz?"

She shrugged, "In preparation for our exams, anyway, this Friday night is the last social night before exam."

"Ah," I exclaimed.

She rolled her eyes, "Don't go and read your book," then we strode into the library, she pointed at an empty seat at the end of the room, the library was somehow scanty probably because class was still ongoing.

Kikiope and I had an ongoing class too, but we'd decided to use the interclass quiz that'll be coming up later in the afternoon as an excuse to spend time together, but we were actually here to prepare for the quiz though.

"Wait, Bimpe is also representing your class too right?" I queried as I pulled out a chair to sit, she'd already taken her seat beside me.

"Yeah."

"Then where is she?"

Her face lit up and I puckered my brows.

"She's on the field with Kunmi, those two are something else, they left this whole area where they could be seen to the field," she replied and I smiled.

"Maybe they want some time alone."

She crinkled her nose, "Time alone indeed abi they went there to do something."

"Ahhh, something ke, gosh, you're corrupt."

She eyed me, "Like your mind is not dirty, what if I wasn't referring to that?"

I smiled, "What else can you refer to?"

She eyed me again before pointing at the book with her, "Read your book, I won't say because you're my boyfriend now, you'll win, I'll whoop your ass."

I laughed out, "You know I'll always win you any time any day, who knows you might start staring at my handsome face when you're meant to answer the question."

She chortled, "In your wildest dreams, I prioritize my class glory over you."

I lifted my brows, "What?"

She waved her palm, "Just joking," then she squeezed her face, "Infact, I wasn't joking gan, so?"

I shook my head, "So, you aren't meant to read Maths, let's look for one current affairs book."

She sprawled to her feet instantly, "Let's go upstairs."

I nodded, and we both ascended the stairs, the books were arranged in several bookshelves upstairs while the down floor was meant for reading even though JANU students turned it into a love arena, when the school wouldn't employ a librarian too, they made one of the English teachers the librarian, and she was always busy and the library prefects themselves didn't lay a good example.

"Here, I've seen one," she raised her hand to reveal a flat book that wouldn't be up to twenty pages, I moved closer to her to take a good look at the book.

"This is for three years ago."

She shrugged, "And so? Look for the current one," then she walked away while I smiled.

I joined her a few seconds later before she started flipping the book.

"Current Affairs is so boring," she complained while I chuckled.

"I won't advise you to read it because my class glory is on the line and even if you start reading it now, you can't know anything, we have just a few minutes left."

She frowned at me before eyeing me, "So, you're indirectly calling me dumb abi?"

"You called yourself that."

She clapped her hands sarcastically, "Well done, I will show you pepper today, that your class glory ehn, I'll drag it in the mud, you just wait and see."

I chortled, "You're just bluffing."

She snapped her fingers across my face, "Don't pass out when it happens oo and don't come and meet me for comfort."

I scoffed, "Say that to yourself."

She raised her palm, "Stop talking to me again, now is the time for concentration, enemy of progress, my class will win today."

I chortled, "Keep building castle in the air."

"I said you shouldn't talk to me," she raised her voice.

"Okay oo," I replied with a mocking smile, and she eyed me before fixing her gaze on the book while I chuckled.

Couple of minutes later, the bell was jingled to convey the end of the day's class.

"Can you see I was able to complete this whole book in only few minutes?"

I raised my head from the book I'd been skimming through, " Yeah, true," I answered in a mocking tone, and she dashed me a scowl.

"We have about thirty minutes before the quiz, let's go and eat jare," she rose to her feet before closing the book in front of you.

"Did I tell you I wasn't reading it?"

She raised her brows, "It's obvious you weren't, you Sha want to show me that you've read Sha."

"Of course," I stood up, and she eyed me before we walked out of the library.

"Should we go to our spot first?"

She shook her head, "They can't be there yet, Kunmi and Bimpe will still be at the field and it's just now that Abee and Doyin decided to revise, so, let's go," she pulled my hand as we headed to the canteen.

Our school canteen was a community on his own where we had different stalls selling all manner of things, it was also one of those things that made JANU a reputable school, there isn't anything you wouldn't see in our canteen, it's just like a supermarket. It wasn't full yet so far the bell was just jingled few minutes back.

"You know it's been long since I visited this canteen?" She started and I nodded.

"Me too."

"What should we eat oo?" Her eyes scanned the whole area that occupied more than a plot of land.

"Let's just eat fried rice," I suggested, and she shook her head.

"No, it's been long since I ate Pounded Yam and vegetables soup, let's go," she dragged me to 'Edie swallows' the shop that was popularly known for their swallows in our school, though there were other two that deal with swallow foods too but Edie was the most popular.

After ordering for our food, we sat down at a corner and conversed till the food arrived, it wasn't long after we started eating that the bell was rung for the start of the quiz.

"I'll still finish this food," she said before picking up her meat.

"But as the social Prefects, you ought to'll have been there, who will arrange the hall and the likes?"

She rolled her eyes," So, you just remembered that abi? We've arranged it this morning when you guys were on the assembly."

"Oh okay," I nodded, we left the canteen a few minutes later and headed to the hall.

Doyin was the first to sight us, so, she just waved her hand to tell us where to come, we walked to the contestants seat without minding the eyes everyone was giving us. It was sure the teachers would scold us later for coming late but that wasn't our problem though.

Only the SS2 students were contesting, so, the quiz started with Red and Gold class, it went on with Red emerging as the winner. It went on like that till it was the turn of Green and Pink, my class and Kikiope's class. She eyed me before we climbed the stage while I only smiled before we started.

At the end of the quiz, we had a draw and there was no way we could go all over again to decide the winner because the bell was rung for the start of our GCE lessons.

"You're still the loser," she pointed at my chest while I chuckled.

"You know that's not true."

She wanted to reply but Bimpe beat her to it," Let's go to class oo, we have Maths now and that one will be doing like his head is there, but we have to frustrate him today sha, he'll just walk out of our class like he did last week."

Kikiope smiled, "Frustrating him is really nice, let's go," they both walked away while I smiled before turning back to head to my class only to meet a smiling Abimbola.

" I can see you guys are enjoying yourself."

I shrugged, "Thanks."

She scoffed, "Keep being all lovey-dovey around, now the only couple the school talks about is the two of you."

I sighed, "Thanks for the information."

She glared at me, "Why? Just why?"

"See, if you don't fear your Maths teacher and you think the subject is not useful to you, I have a reasonable class to attend right now, just get out of my way."

Her glare increased, "Just watch your back," she hissed before walking away while I shook my head.
