chapter 64

KHALID

I was more than shocked to see Abimbola walk into the living room that afternoon.

"Why are you so surprised to see me?" She queried with a wide smile before joining me on the two-seater, I moved away quickly.

"Are you running away from me?" She inquired and I scoffed.

"Why would I? Anyway, what do you want?"

She squeezed her face, "So, I can't visit you again, must I have a reason to visit you?"

"You visiting me out of the blue shows you have a reason."

"I don't have any reason," she deadpanned and I nodded before turning back to the TV.

We stayed in silence for a couple of minutes before she broke the ice, "Won't you talk to me? Don't you miss me?"

I wanted to laugh loudly but I decided against it, "Did you come here because of that?"

She smiled, "Anyway, I missed you, I missed you so much, I..."

I cut her off, "Why are you na telling me? Should I act on it or what?"

She moved closer to me, "You didn't miss me at all?" She wanted to touch my hand but I moved it away before she could, she frowned before continuing, "Don't you miss us?"

I scoffed, "Who and who? See, Bimbola if you're not here for anything reasonable then I think you should just go back home because all this one can't work."

She glared at me and I ignored her, "Are you with Kikiope now?"

"And how is that any of your business?"

She opened her mouth to reply but the appearance of my mom stopped her.

"Khalid, we..." She looked at Abimbola who quickly smiled and greeted her before turning to me, "I didn't know you had a visitor."

"No, what were you saying?"

"You haven't been to my mall, so, your dad decided we all go later in the day or should we go now?"

I slipped my legs into my slippers, "We can go now, I've been meaning to go there."

She glanced at Abimbola, "What of your friend?"

"Don't worry about her," and with that I headed towards my room ignoring Abimbola's calls behind me.

She'd left when I got back to the living room, so, I just walked to my parents room only for me to meet them kissing.

"Oh...sorry," I said with a tugging smile and they smiled at me before standing up. The few days I'd been home had shown they were getting better, they were now intimate and looked like real couples. I'd never seen my parents happy the way they'd been during this break.

"Let's go," my dad announced, and we all trooped out of the room.

Dad decided to drive us himself and all through the ride all he did was chat with my mom while I only smiled at their display of affection.

When we swerved into the car park, I was somehow confused 'cause we were at dad's company.

"I thought we were visiting mum's new mall?" I voiced out as soon as we got out of the car. They both turned to me.

"Yeah," dad replied and I squeezed my face.

"Here?" I looked around trying to sight where the mall could possibly be between the two high rise buildings facing me which was undoubtedly dad's company.

"It's here too," mom continued and I squinted my eyes before they led me to the second building.

"This place is now your mom's place," he announced.

"But I thought..."

Mom cut in, "Your dad decided to renovate it for me, they don't actually need two big buildings for his company, one is more than enough."

"I didn't actually decide to, you forced me to so you could monitor me," Dad countered and mom rolled her eyes before leading us into the building.

After taking a look at the ground floor with explanations from my parents, we entered the elevator getting down from each floor that consisted of about fifteen, when we got the last floor, I was already tired and bored.

"The grand opening is tomorrow and you'll be leaving for school or will you just stay and resume back on Monday?" Mom queried and I shook my head.

"No, I have test on Monday and I can't start rushing to school."

"But..." Mom countered and her loud ringtone stopped her, after picking the call and talking for just few seconds she turned to us.

"Sofia is already home, and she couldn't get in."

"Why?" Dad inquired.

"She misplaced her keys."

"Let's go home then," Dad said and I couldn't be more thankful, good thing Aunt Sofia called if not we might not stop moving around the building for years.

💢💢💢💢💢💢💢💢

"Thank God, me that I'm already hungry before," Abee shouted before jumping down from his bed while I tore my gaze away from the guys who were already eating their provisions like hungry wolves, main reason, they always go broke by the third week of resumption.

"Why are you thanking God?" I turned to Abee cluelessly.

"You didn't read it on the group chat? The girls said we should come to the field apparently Kikiope brought food," Kunmi explained as he got down from his bed.

"Oh, that's true," I replied before sliding my legs into my slippers. Kikiope actually brought a big cooler when sge got out of her house earlier in the day 'cause we were to leave for school together and I'd asked why but she ignored me and told me to help her with her heavy load; one she'd explained was for her home management practical.

We sauntered to the field and met the girls at the middle of the field spreading out the mat.

"Thanks for bringing food ooo," Abee shouted.

"It's only food you know, FFO," Bimpe eyed him, and he ignored her before we all sat down.

Kikiope opened the cooler and the aroma from the food filled the air, after Doyin shared the spoon we all dug it into the fried rice and Jollof rice.

"This midterm break is one of the best," Bimpe started while crunching the chicken.

"Sha don't allow your saliva drop into the food, Table manners," Kunmi replied her, and she eyed him.

"Like you know the meaning of that," she hissed before continuing, "Abeg, good people with brains jare, ask me why it's one of the best?"

"Why?" We all chorused including Kunmi.

"So, you want to know too?" She eyed Kunmi playfully before talking, "Because my parents are finally separating."

"What!" We all shouted concurrently.

She smiled, "My mom already moved out of that ugly house even before the break, when I got home and met the door locked and the key wasn't where it ought to be I went to her bukka only to realize it's now a restaurant not a bukka."

"How did it happen?" Doyin asked and she shrugged.

"I don't know but it's now beautiful than ever and my mom now stays in a three-bedroom flat not that stupid face me I slap you again, I now have my room," she screamed, and we all shook our head.

Well, she was the only one that doesn't have a room amongst us so it didn't freak us like it did to her.

"Aren't you happy for me?"

"Haha haha haha," Kunmi laughed mockingly, and she attempted to throw her spoon at him but decided against it.

She turned to Kikiope, "It's in GRA too, the street beside yours."

"And you couldn't visit me during the break?" Kikiope raised her brows.

"You're talking as if the break is not just four and half days."

"You mentioned that your parents are separating?" I asked and she nodded.

"Yeah, my mom just got to her senses, and she decided to leave him, he'll kuku wallow in poverty because he doesn't even have a job, my sister told me they moved out the night he didn't come home, and he has been frequenting my mom's restaurant to beg her, I really wish I witnessed the whole thing," she ended it with a laughter.

"So, they didn't divorce?" Abee inquired and Bimpe shook her head.

"They didn't register their marriage to begin with, just one traditional wedding," she explained, and we nodded.

We continued the food and deviated from one topic to another till we emptied the cooler.

"Do you know Jubilee is in school?" Kikiope started and we all swung her gaze to her.

"I thought she was dead," Bimpe jested and Doyin slapped her laps.

"She should still be in the hospital right?" Abee asked.

"Apparently the gun shot wasn't that bad but the goat made it into something elaborate, she has a cast on her hand and her minions have started work as her slaves," Kikiope replied and we all laughed at the latter statement.

"But why did they shoot her on her birthday?" Kunmi inquired and we all turned to him.

"Do I look like the person that shot her or did I send them on the mission?" Bimpe asked while eyeing him.

"I didn't ask you, the question was directed to everyone."

"Yeesh," we mocked, and she scowled at us before snapping her fingers across Kunmi's face while he chuckled.

"The thing is she was the only person that got shot which means there's a reason," Doyin reasoned.

"Who else should get shot before if not the birthday girl?" Kikiope jested and we all laughed.

"So, what could be the reason?" Kunmi asked.

Bimpe replied, "You want to start putting your nose in another person's business again, amebo, why are you even concerned with her? Hmm, I've been noticing the eyes you do give that girl, h...."

Kunmi cut in, "I only have eyes for you," a wide smile spread across Bimpe's face but it turned to a frown as soon as it came when Kunmi continued, "So, think of another comeback because this is so stupid, it proves your stupidity."

"Give me a reason for me not to kill you this instant," she jumped up and he got up quickly knowing what she was aiming for.

"Because you love me," he replied and she eyed him before proceeding to beat him but he was quick to run away and they started chasing each other around the field.

"Those two are something else, so childish" Kikiope said in between laughter and I smiled.

"They're more than childish," I replied and she smiled while I returned the smile before Doyin turned to us.

"You're smiling at each other now, is it what I'm thinking?"

Kikiope rolled her eyes.

"Bimpe come ooo, you haven't even asked how far with this two?" Doyin shouted and immediately Bimpe turned back and started walking towards us, Kikiope got up and walked away.

"Come back here and answer the question," Bimpe screamed before running after Kikiope who increased her pace and Doyin joined in the chase.

When the girls were out of sight, we decided to go back to our hostel.
