chapter 58
KIKIOPE
"What's happening nah?" Bimpe shouted and I jerked my head towards her.
"What's wrong?"
She pursed her lips while Doyin opened the door, and we walked into our room.
"You know what I'm talking about, so, stop pretending," she accused and I squeezed my face before dropping my books on my bed.
"I don't know oo," I told her, and she rolled her eyes before jumping on my bed, Doyin did the same, I scrunched my brows before joining them.
She cleared her throat before talking, "The thing is I don't like what is going on."
I creased my brows, "Just go straight to the point."
She glanced at Doyin before replying, "You and Khalid."
I sighed. I was aware of what they wanted to talk about.
"We don't like this air between you two, throughout prep you guys didn't talk to each other and since you got back from Abuja I haven't seen you talk to each other, what's going on?" Doyin voiced out.
"Nothing," I replied succinctly.
Bimpe scoffed, "What do you mean by nothing? Why are you doing like this nah?"
I rolled my eyes, "I don't understand you oo."
Doyin snickered, "You can't, ever since you kissed him last week, you've been behaving somehow to him, what's wrong with you nah?"
I sighed. Truly, I can't explain what's actually wrong with me. I've been avoiding him lately.
"And I know you like him, so, why all this?" Bimpe added and I eyed her.
"I don't like him."
They erupted into laughter.
"Stop lying, it's written all over your face," Bimpe said and my eyes widened.
"Is it that obvious?" I queried and they chuckled.
"You just admitted it," Doyin snickered and I eyed her.
Bimpe tucked her legs beneath her and turned to me, "See, I don't know what is wrong with your brain oo, maybe you transferred your brain to someone but please collect it back, fine, you like him, and he likes you too, so, what's this awkwardness? Whereas he's your best friend even Kunmi and I that are always at loggerheads sorted it out."
I heaved, "What should I do?"
"Water, it seems you need deliverance abi we should take you to church so, they'll beat the stupidity out of your body, I kuku trust your church," she jested and I laughed.
Doyin stopped me, "If you don't want to get into any relationship with him, at least you guys should still remain friends, you were best friends before this whole thing."
Bimpe nodded, "That's true, wait, what am I saying? That's not true kankan, you guys should date, it'll be the sweetest thing ever," she teased and I rolled my eyes.
I started, "You know..."
Bimpe cut in, "I don't know anything, good thing we are going to Abuja tomorrow, and we'll be spending three days there," then she turned to Doyin, "Leave it to me, I assure you, they'll become a couple before we get back."
I chuckled, "You'll force me abi."
She nodded, "Don't worry."
I smiled, "It'll shock you like barb wire."
They both erupted into laughter.
"Talking about barbwire, do you know some people were caught in the barbwire this afternoon?" Doyin announced when they stopped laughing.
We snapped our head towards her that instant.
"Who? What were they doing there?" Bimpe queried.
"I heard they were smoking and drinking, actually, the boys were caught because our physics teacher realized they were 'stabbing' his class," she explained.
"Hmmm, but, how did he catch them?" I asked.
"I'm not sure, their judgements will be passed tomorrow morning," she replied, and we nodded.
Not quite long, the light went off meaning it was time to sleep, they went back to their bed while I pulled my coverlet over myself, my mind flashed back to what we'd discussed earlier? Why was I avoiding him gan? I didn't even have any genuine reason for my action, I think it's time to make things right.
Good thing, we'll be together throughout the weekend, we'll be going to Abuja tomorrow, and we would spend the weekend there. Our school had received a call two days back concerning the children's parliament, and we'd qualified which explains why we'll be going tomorrow.
💢💢💢💢💢💢💢💢
"This is nonsense, when it's not as if we're going to church,"Bimpe complained while checking out the cloth.
I laughed before placing my cloth on the bed, "You've been complaining about this cloth since yesterday."
She rolled her eyes, "Look at it nah, it's better they didn't sew any cloth for us, which one is black suit and skirt, Oga oo."
I laughed again before sitting at the edge of the bed. We'd arrived in Abuja yesterday, and we'd gone through a voting process for the principal officers for the parliament, later on, we were all giving the cloth which would be uniformly worn by everyone for the inauguration and the Valedictory service of the previous parliament members.
"The way you're complaining, hope you know we only have few minutes left and you haven't had your bath," I reminded her, and she snapped her head towards me.
"Like you've taken yours too, I can't just imagine myself in this nonsense, how will take picture now?"
I chuckled, "Who knows the cloth might fit you."
She rolled her eyes, "Fitter nii, anyway, let's go and bath, I'll just manage the cloth."
"Like you have a choice," I jested before rushing into the bathroom, she joined me, and we had our bath.
Minutes later, we were dressed in the suit and the cloth actually look good on us, Bimpe was just complaining unnecessarily though we look like church choirs but it was still nice.
"Let's go ooo abi what are you looking at in the mirror, as if it's one fine cloth," Bimpe shouted and I cackled before we both walked out of our hotel room, it was at that time that Mr. Nala and Khalid walked out of theirs too, our room was beside each other, our eyes met and I looked away instantly before Bimpe turned to me.
"Gosh, I'd actually forgotten my mission Sha, but we still have tomorrow, don't worry," she patted my shoulder and I shook my head.
"Are you guys ready?" Mr. Nala queried and we nodded. He led us to the conference room where the programme would be held, the room wasn't filled yet.
Bimpe pulled out a chair to sit but Mr. Nala's voice stopped her, "That's not your place, look at the paper on each table and find your name."
We nodded and did as he instructed, Bimpe was the first to find her name, followed by Khalid, I was still looking for mine when Khalid called me.
"Your seat is here," he announced and I nodded, Bimpe winked at me and smiled foolishly but I eyed her before walking over to Khalid's side. Why did our names fall together?
I pulled out the chair beside him before sitting down, resisting the urge to glance at him, I took interest in the table and the conference room at large, Bimpe kept on throwing me funny looks which ignored. We stayed in awkward silence till the programme started.
"Welcome to the 5th inauguration and the 4th Valedictory service of the National Children's parliament," the Permanent Secretary announced and clap rented the whole air.
"I am delighted to witness the future of Nigeria. It's wonderful to see children taking up the responsibilities that are ordinarily reposed by adults. The 4th parliament members did their jobs well and I must commend them, please, give them a round of applause," she shouted and I smiled while glancing back to look at the members who were a bunch of ugly elements. Oga oo. Good thing the ones I'll be working with are good-looking.
I looked at Bimpe who was already talking with the girl beside her; one she met at the airport last time who took her pictures.
The applause died down and the Speaker of the House took over, "To the new members you are expected to surpass the achievements of your predecessors and in line to that, you'll be going to the United Kingdom for a weeklong leadership exposure programme."
Noise and claps filled the air and Bimpe jumped up with her face beaming smiles, I shook my head and glanced at Khalid who smiled in return. The programme went on and on with different talks until our position in the parliament was announced.
"Adebimpe Adesanya is the Chief Whip," the Permanent Secretary announced and Bimpe jumped up, claps filled the air, and she waved at everyone with a funny smile. I chuckled at her display.
She went on till I heard my name, "Kikiopefoluwa Ademidun is the House leader."
Claps rented the air once again and I smiled at everyone.
"And our Speaker is Khalid Adeboye," I glanced at him as loud cheers filled the air.
After much talk, we were served drinks and snacks before leaving for our hotel room.
"They can't even cook jollof rice, how much is doughnuts and Bigi Apple," Bimpe complained as I opened the door to our room.
"At least they gave you something."
She hissed before closing the door.
"Eh, so, We are going to U.K," she shouted with elation.
I smiled, "Don't be too happy, we might not go beyen, maybe they were only making mouth."
Bimpe rolled her eyes, "We are going, I asked one of those last members, and she told me they went to South Africa during their tenure."
I chuckled, "And you think we won't go to South Africa too abi Ghana, we are staying in Africa not Europe."
She eyed me before sitting on the bed, "Be optimistic, let me snap picture jare," she brought our her phone from her skirt pocket and in no time, she'd started taking pictures, I joined her before she stopped.
"Let me go and call Khalid."
I scrunched my brows, "For what?"
"For water, to accomplish my mission," and with that she dashed out of the room while I shook my head.
