"Me that I didn't even read the oath at all," Bimpe announced, and we all turned to her.

"Even me gan," I added, and she raised her hand up for high-five before we both turned back to the guys.

"I think we all have the same mindset, I didn't read the oath too, I was only pretending," Kunmi said, and we all laughed.

"Abi nah, what's the essence of the oath when we know we'll breach it," Bimpe added, and we all erupted into laughter again.

It was a Wednesday, we'd finished our midterm test yesterday and the school had decided to do our swearing in today after the former prefects handed over to us. Instead of doing socials, they'd decided to do inauguration party for the newly elected prefects and as such, we'd been asked to recite an oath from the paper given to every one of us, luckily we were all asked to recite it together so, it wasn't obvious that we JANU Icons didn't read out the oath.

"Khalid, did you read out the oath during your own inauguration?" Bimpe asked.

"That's even true, you know you are even the only one or did they join you with the Chief Whip, secretary and the others?" I queried and he shook his head.

"The SRC didn't read out any oath," he answered.

"Oh okay," Bimpe and I replied in unison.

Kunmi looked around the school before talking, "The school is almost dry, when will AY come gan?"

"So far the school is dry, Kikiope let's go around jare," Bimpe turned to me.

I raised my brows, "Why?"

She fluttered her lashes," Don't you know we can see something nii, during this period, some students are always lurking around during rubbish."

I nodded, "That's true sha."

"So, we can earn free money through blackmail," she added and I smiled.

"You and this your blackmail sha," Khalid chided, and we eyed him.

"Kunmi give us your phone," Bimpe turned to him, and he ignored her.

"Give us your phone nah abi which one is ako like this, as if you won't collect part of the money too," she snickered while eyeing him.

"The day they would sha catch you guys ehn, they'll..."

"You'll help us," I completed, and he scoffed before giving Bimpe his phone.

"O jeebi," she snatched it from him and eyed him before turning away.

"Khalid, come and call us when AY arrives oo," I told him and he nodded.

"As if we'll know your whereabouts," he snorted, and we gave a dismissive wave before walking away.

"Let's first go to the corper's lodge, we might see something there," Bimpe said while wriggling her brows.

"Okay," then we ambled towards the corper's lodge, immediately we crossed to the other side, we heard the hoot from our car pool and noticed AY driving into the compound.

"Oh oh, when this man ought to come, he won't come," Bimpe complained and I laughed before we both walked back to the park.

It's been three days now and Kunmi has been absent from school, he even missed the cultural day, we'd tried calling his number several times but it was switched off, Bimpe later tried him during lesson break today, and he eventually picked up.

"He said he's grandparents got into an accident," she announced.

"What!" We all shouted in shock.

"And they are dead," she added, and we shouted again.

"Should we go there?" Abee asked.

"Lesson break is almost over," Khalid reasoned.

"But we only have two periods during lesson, I think we can go," I countered.

"Not like we actually want to go for the lesson gan, so, I agree, let's go to his place," Doyin added, and we all agreed before standing up, we strolled out of the school without anyone noticing. The rate at which we've been leaving school this term ehn.

Immediately we got out of the school compound, Khalid flagged down a taxi that drove us straight to Kunmi's house. After greeting the numerous people in the living room, we went straight to Kunmi's room without waiting for their permission or anything.

"Kunmi," we all shouted immediately we walked into his room, he got up from his bed looking sombre.

"So, you can look like this," Bimpe mocked him and he glared at her.

"Stop mocking him," I poked her side before we all sat on his bed.

"How're you doing?" Khalid asked and he nodded.

"Have they done the burial party?" Doyin asked.

"Yeah."

"Ah, and you didn't invite us, se they didn't do party nii?" Bimpe questioned and I pinched her.

"Stop being insensitive," I whispered into her ears, and she rolled her eyes.

"You claim to be fine and you haven't uttered any word since we arrived," Abee admonished, Kunmi sighed before talking.

"You expect me to be fine, it's my grandparents we are talking about here, the two of them, they are my only family and you expect me to be fine after they are gone," he voiced out, and we all kept quiet for some seconds before Khalid broke the ice.

"But you still have your parents."

Kunmi scoffed, "Parents? Do I have parents? My dad is in prison and my mom abandoned me yet you say I have parents."

"Kunmi, it's okay, everything would be fine," Doyin admonished, and he scoffed.

"It can't be fine, do you even know the funniest thing, even after the death of my grandparents, my mom doesn't want me near her," he said bitterly.

"Why? You ought to start staying with her right?" I queried and he sniffed before glancing at me.

"The useless old man she's married to doesn't want me around them, and she doesn't even want me too, do you know she wants me to go to her sister's place in Kogi after the burial?"

"What!" We all yelled in unison.

He sniffed again, apparently, he was trying so hard not to cry.

"But what of your education?" Bimpe asked and he glanced at her before looking down.

"She wants me to continue it there."

"But this term has almost ended," Doyin reasoned and Kunmi shrugged.

"She doesn't want me to stay alone in this house that's why she's looking for a way to get rid of me," he explained bitterly.

"But there could be other options other than going to Kogi," I reasoned and the others concurred.

"You know you can just stay with me till the end of this term if she doesn't want you to stay alone whereas we are all going to hostel next term right?" Khalid questioned and we all nodded in agreement. Well, from next term, it's mandatory for every one of us to stay in the school hostel to start the preparation for our final exams and whereas we'll be starting morning lessons too.

"That's even true, so, there's no reason for you to stay in this house or go to one foolish Kogi," Bimpe said, and we all chuckled at her latter statement.

"But the thing is will my mom agree?"

"Then we'll make her," we all shouted, and he chuckled.

"Your mom is outside right?" Doyin questioned and he nodded.

"Let's go and tell her," Doyin ordered, and we all sprawled to our feet, in a blink of an eye, we went out to meet Kunmi's mom who was seated in the midst of some family members.

Without minding their presence, we all turned to Kunmi's mom and in a matter of time we kept on talking to her making her reason on why he had to stay.

After minutes of trying to convince her she finally agreed not like she had any choice though because we somehow insulted and bruised her ego during the talk.
