Chapter Twenty-Three
For the first time in a long time, Vera acted like she genuinely loved Zasha. She acted like all the mistakes she had made with trying to protect Zasha had a chance for a do-over.
Vera hadn't told Tommy or Tony, though she knew that no doubt that Zasha would've broken the news to them before Vera had a chance.
She calmly walked down the stairs, she noticed Tommy and Tony walk through the front door.
"Morning." She calmly spoke to them.
"Morning, V." Tony mentioned.
Tommy felt hesitant as he spoke "V."
Vera stopped in front of the males "Things are starting to look up and we have a new plan. Things are great."
Tommy wasn't sure how to take Vera's words as Tony made his way into the dining room.
Zasha peered out of the kitchen "Morning boys." She happily spoke.
"Morning, Z." The boys chimed together.
Vera, Tommy and Tony noticed a large white box sitting on the dining table.
"Is this yours, Z?" Vera asked.
Zasha stepped out of the kitchen, she wiped her cake mixture covered hands on her lower apron, she looked at Vera "No. But it's white and very expensive."
Vera seemed confused as she looked at her fiancée.
"Thought maybe mum got a little excited after last night and dropped it off but nope."
The two males had no idea what was going on.
Vera swallowed her pride as she looked at the large white box.
"There's a note, Vera." Zasha mentioned. "Please tell me that last night wasn't just some plan."
Vera picked up the note that was placed on top of the lid of the box, she flipped it over.
In cursive red font was
You are invited to the wedding of
Vera Olvera Melana and Antonio Avriovaldo III
2pm. 17th Saturday March.
St Stephens Church.
Underneath that was
Recommend you wear this.
Vera placed down the note on the dining table as everyone watched her open the lid. Everyone except for Zasha stood speechless, as they stared at the wedding dress neatly tucked inside the white box.
Vera glanced up at Zasha.
"So, last night was just part of your plan." Zasha touched her engagement ring.
"Z, no. trust me."
Tommy noticed the family ring Zasha was wearing whereas Tony only saw it as an engagement ring.
"Three years, Vera." Zasha began to twist her ring off "Fix this or I'm done."
Vera's face dropped as Zasha placed the family ring on the dining table.
"You couldn't of done this just because you loved me." With those final words, Zasha left the dining room. She slammed the front door shut.
Vera took a deep breath "Two days. We can do this." She looked up at Tommy.
Vera felt her tears roll down her cheeks as she struggled to understand her girlfriend's pain.
Tony picked up the ring, he silently left the dining before hoping he could catch Zasha before she had left the property.
Tommy watched Vera as heartbreak and pain washed over her body. He couldn't find the words as Vera dropped into a dining chair.
