Chapter Thirty-Five
It didn't take long for Tony and Tommy to be the last two left standing in the warehouse, Mr Tonio had left after he had killed Vera. Saint Nick didn't say a word as he took his quiet exit and Mr Tonio's soldiers didn't bother reacting as they followed out.
Tony rushed out to the SUV as cars started to exit the dying grass patch. He needed to understand what just happened. He needed to understand how Vera's body could just be laying lifeless in the middle of the warehouse.
Tony hadn't noticed Tommy stop by his side; Tony felt Tommy's hand on Tony's shoulder.
Tony looked up at Tommy "She...She...Vera.." He struggled to find his words as everything finally sunk in "She...She.." Tears rolled down his cheeks as his body expressed his struggle with emotions.
"I" Tommy paused for a moment "Need to make a phone call."
Tony watched as Tommy opened the passenger door of the car, pulled open the glove box and pulled out a mobile phone.
Tony felt his heart race as he watched Tommy pulled out a police contact card with a handwritten phone number on it from the glovebox. Tony swallowed his fear as he watched Tommy, fearing Tommy would say something about the phone and the police contact card.
Tommy didn't, he had known that Tony kept his phone in the car and knew that a contact card was in the glovebox. It was the main reason that Tommy refused to keep his gun in the glovebox, to let Vera believe that no one was using phones within her reach.
Tommy stepped back into the warehouse, leaving Tony alone by the car.
Tommy could see Vera's lifeless body in the middle of the warehouse.
Tommy pressed the phone to his ear as he listened to the person pick up the phone.
"Officer Baker, Sir. We need your assistance."
"Who's speaking?"
"It's Tommy, Sir."
The line went silent.
Before Zephan worked up the courage to ask one simple question through the phone "Is my daughter okay?"
"She's with your family" Tommy closed his eyes for a second as he realised that he needed to tell Zasha about this before someone else does "We need your help and this needs to be kept quiet."
"Why should I help?"
Tommy noted Zephan's tone as he opened his eyes and returned his gaze to Vera's lifeless body "Vera Melana is dead." His voice cracked as he couldn't hold his strength any longer.
There was another silence.
"Suppose you won't tell me who killed her?"
Tommy tried to sound like he was following orders as he spoke "You already know who." His lower lip trembled as he kept his gaze on Vera's lifeless body.
"Whose currently with you?"
"Just myself and Tony." He struggled to mention Vera. "I'll text you the address."
Tommy forced the phone call to end as he struggled to clear his vision as he texted the address to Officer Zephan Baker.
He ran to Vera's lifeless body, he dropped to his knees before scooping her up in his arms.
All Vera ever wanted was peace and she finally got that.
