Chapter Sixteen

The countdown was on as Vera figured out what she was going to do tonight, she just needed someone on the in to help her, she didn't want to put Zasha in the crossfire but knew Zasha was Vera's only hope.

Vera knew she was breaking almost all the rules Belandi's had for the crime families, they used the restaurant as a place of truce not a place full of war.

Zasha had left the Melana home before the others; she had arrived at Belandi before the crime families. It was just her and the minimal restaurant staff, she had been granted access to all parts of the restaurant and been allowed to use a small portion of the kitchen for her deserts.

She placed the five layered engagement cake on the table in the middle of the room. The black and white stripped monochrome cake with red hearts patterned down the cake with a wooden cake topper scribed with Happily Ever After.

Zasha took a deep breath as she stepped back from the cake, she calmly wondered through the restaurant as she looked for Vera, Tommy's and Tony's name placement. She had found Vera had been seated with names she didn't know.

Zasha carefully knelt down as she struggled to control her breathing, she was thankful she was wearing gloves, fearing this could be used against her as she reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a small handgun, she carefully adjusted the bottom of the tablecloth as she tried to hide the small handgun under the tablecloth.

Zasha quickly jumped to her feet as she exhaled deeply, her heart raced against her ribcage.

She rushed to the kitchen and grabbed two medium sized pastel purple cake boxes from her corner of the kitchen before trying to calmly walk back to the seating area.

Finding Tommy and Tony's name placements was easy, they had been seated near the restaurant toilets.

Zasha carefully dropped to her knees as she slide the two boxes under the tablecloth, she adjusted the tablecloth hem to look like it had before. She rose to her feet, Zasha held back her jump scare as she noticed Antonio walking towards her.

"Zasha." Antonio beamed as Mr Tonio inspected the wedding cake.

"Antonio." Zasha tried to hold back her fear.

"The cake looks lovely, my bride to be will be here tonight. I hope she loves it as much as I do." Antonio sounded polite, he sounded like he was trying to find his own voice.

"What's this?" Mr Tonio's voice floated towards Zasha and Antonio.

"Sorry, sir?" Zasha braved walking towards Mr Tonio.

"Happily Ever after? Where's the bride and groom?" Mr Tonio turned his attention to Zasha.

Zasha prayed her words were the right things to say, "Antonio said he didn't want a bride and groom on his cake."

Mr Tonio glanced over at his son as Antonio looked for Vera's name placement "Hmm."

"Does everything else look okay?" Zasha tried to stay brave.

"It'll do." Mr Tonio kept his sentence short, he didn't give a hint of praise or failure "Don't you have a job to do?"

"Yes, sir." Zasha excused herself as she rushed back to the kitchen.
