CHAPTER 2
ELLIOT'S POV
Bright white light flooded my eyes as I opened them. There was continuous beeping in the background. My head throbbed and vision blurred when I tried to sit. Looking around I was in a hospital room.
An IV pole was attached to my bed, the pipe leading to my arm.
Grabbing the bridge of my nose, I tried to think.
'Who am I? What happened?'
I couldn't remember.
Pulling out the IV line and grabbing a piece of cotton to stop the blood flow, I quietly went to the door, slowly opening it.
Two nurses were standing outside talking in hushed voices. Leaning on the wall, closing my eyes, I strained my ears.
"........He's not human."
"I heard it was just a truck accident?"
"You didn't see his condition when he arrived. Blood everywhere, face disfigured and head bashed. We didn't even expect a pulse, yet there it was."
"It didn't look disfigured to me. A good thing too he has a nice face."
"That's the thing. I almost fainted when I saw him again. He's not human I tell you. That there is just unnatural."
Pushing off the wall I started searching the room for something anything that might tell me who I was.
Nothing.
Something didn't feel right, I needed to get out of here.
Glancing out the window I could see I was two stories up.
'Too dangerous, but I did just survive a fatal accident so it could still be an option. A last resort maybe.'
Deciding to just ask the nurses I went and opened the door and stepped out into the hallway and was immediately greeted with gasps.
"Sir! You shouldn't be out of..."
"Can you please tell me what my name is and where my belongings are ?" I quickly cut her off.
"Sir, please calm down." She walked towards me while the other nurse hurried off to her own assigned patient and tried to softly guide me back to the room. "Your name I believe is Elliot Payne and your belongings are in the next room. You are injured please return to your bed, the doctor will be returning shortly."
Ignoring her, I pushed passed and went into the next room which seemed to be an operation room.
"Please Sir! Kindly return to your room." She followed me, trying in vain to get me to go back to the room.
"I'll go just as soon as I get my stuff." I promised, Spotting some clothes and other personal items I walked over picked them up and walked obediently back to the room.
Putting the items on the side table I groaned dramatically putting one hand one my head.
"I'll go ahead and rest now. I'm feeling tired."
"Okay, I'll just put your IV back and leave you to rest." She said, stepping forward.
"Oh no! It's quite fine. I don't need it." I said, swiftly grabbing her by the shoulders and started guiding her out."I'm feeling tired not weak."
"But-"
"Thank you for taking care of us patients. You're appreciated for everything you do."
"I-" And I closed the door on a bewildered nurse.
The first thing I did was change my clothes. A wallet was among the other personal items which included keys presumably to my house or apartment, a lighter, a phone and earphones.
The phone was locked. After trying random numbers for 5 minutes, I gave up.
My ID was missing from the wallet, but there was some cash.
Sighing I got up and went to the door pressing my ear against it and debating on weather I should try to sneak out.
My headache was now long gone and when I touched and put pressure on the bandages I didn't feel any pain. Searching around I found a pair of scissors and stood infront of the mirror.
Slowly and as carefully as I could, I started to cut a portion of the bandage. The bandage had a bit of dried blood on it but my head seemed fine. Carefully I cut away the whole bandage. Wasn't I supposed to be injured? Where was the injury?! Forget the injury, there wasn't even a scratch.
'What in the world was happening?'
Sitting back on the bed, I put my head in my hands.
'Something wasn't right.'
That's when I saw it, a wierd mark burned on my palm.
'I wasn't part of the mafia? Was I?!'
A loud thud brought me out of my thoughts. Straining my ears, I waited for a few seconds before getting up and quietly opening the door.
No one was outside, looking left and right the hallway was empty. This was my chance. I could just walk out of here, but before I could step out I stopped in my tracks. Just outside the door the nurse was lying unconscious.
I bent down and shook here gently.
"Hey you alright?........hey?"
She wasn't responding. Feeling slight panic I grabbed her wrist.
No pulse.
Putting my now slightly sweaty hands into my pockets I hurried down the hall.
'I'll just tell the receptionist there's an unconscious nurse in front of room 021"
I willed myself to be calm and walked up to the receptionist as unsuspiciously as I could.
"Umm....excuse me, I was visiting a patient and I saw a nurse unconscious in the hallway."
I thought she hadn't heard me, but then she picked up the phone and sent someone to check up on her. Then turning to me,
"And your name is?"
"My...my name ?"
"Yes and the name of the patient you were here to visit. I'll need you to sign here." She said, putting a sheet in front of me and holding out a pen.
"Oh...oh yes! I was here to visit...Elliot Payne and my na-" just as I grabbed the pen from her hand, she collapsed.
"Hey! You....what? I...." quickly looking around I saw that unfortunately and fortunately no one was there to witness anything.
'Not that I had anything to do with it....right?'
I sighed. I wasn't a doctor, I couldn't help her. Pulling my hood up I started to walk out. I was probably wrong the nurse and the receptionist were probably unconscious.
A sudden cold breeze greeted me as I walked out. It was sunny before but now the sun hid behind the clouds.
I sighed, steam escaping from my mouth.
'Where was I even going'
A/N soooooo, another short chapter. Yaaaay. Honestly the start of this story is a bit bumpy so the chapters will stay short for a while but I'm hoping to start writing proper full chapters, so bear with me for a while. Also positive feedback and constructive criticism is always welcomed.
Also writing is really intimidating and nobody's perfect from the start. Sometimes you just need a push and I got that from a dear friend. So it's thanks to them this story is even here.
