twenty-two; bridge
On the outskirts of Mitch's hometown sat a little bridge.
It was a little wooden thing, far too rundown for anyone other than pedestrians to go across. And even then, not many people knew about it.
Whenever winter came, the bridge only seemed to get that much better. Ice formed over the small creek and snow blanketed everything it could touch.
Mitch loved it.
He'd be the first to admit he spend far too much time here, taking in everything it had to offer. He wouldn't have it any other way though. It was perfect and it had meaning and—"
"It's beautiful."
Mitch's head whipped to the side, only see a tall blonde man off to his right. He was wearing a dark outfit and coat, but Mitch's eyes were on his face and his mind was on his words. In all the times he had visited, he had hardly seen anyone out here. And none of them had ever tried to start a conversation with him.
"Yeah," Mitch decided on answering. He looked the blonde up and down once more before turning back to the sight in front of him. He managed to get back into his own thoughts for a moment before being disrupted again. He heard the light crunch of snow and slight creaking of the bridge, but didn't look back to the man until he showed up in the corner of his eye.
"I haven't come out here in years. Been too busy. Its amazing though. I regret not coming back sooner."
Mitch nodded his head once, and his eyes darted back in front of him as the blonde glanced at him. And then it felt silent again, until he spoke up once more.
"Fuck, I'm sorry." Mitch turned to the side. "I just barged in on your time and I really should've." Mitch looked up at the blonde's eyes, noting the sincerity behind them. "I'll let you be." He set his hand on the railing, then was moving away just as Mitch felt a pang of guilt in his chest.
"No."
Mitch watched as the blonde man stopped and slowly spun back around. "Um, its okay. Just really wasn't expecting that... or you. That's all." A smile spread across his face, and then he was walking back to Mitch's side.
"I suppose I should properly introduce myself then. I'm Scott." Mitch felt the corner's of his lips turn up before he could stop them.
"I'm Mitch."
"So," he started, leaning against the railing and sparing a glance out towards their surroundings. "Why do you like this bridge so much?"
"Why are you assuming I like it?"
"Because no one comes out here unless they do." And just like that, Mitch found himself smiling, then dove into conversation with his new acquaintance.
