six; tree

"Scott Richard."

Mitch only had to wait a minute before he heard footsteps and before he saw the tall blonde come from the adjoining room.

"Hey, babe," Scott said with a smile on his face. He quickly approached Mitch, put a hand around his waist, then pecked his lips. "Glad you're back."

"Yeah, but I think we need to talk to something." Scott raised an eyebrow, but Mitch was certain he knew where it was going. "Why do we have a tree in our living room?" Scott's eyes flitted to the almost completely empty room, all besides the large Christmas tree in the far corner.

"Its almost Christmas, and our first one together for that matter. So I thought why not, y'know?" Mitch could already see the apprehension and nervousness on Scott's face as the older boy rubbed the back of his neck with his hand.

"Yeah, but..." Mitch trailed off, not wanting to say the words he knew he'd have to. "We can't afford this."

"I know. I knew you'd say that and I know its the truth and that's why I picked up an extra shift on campus and—"

"Scott." His rambling instantly came to a halt as he stared back at his boy. "Its okay. Just really didn't expect that. And you know my feelings on everything right now." Scott just barely nodded his head, then closed the distance between the two again. His arms went around Mitch's waist as Mitch set his head on Scott's chest, still not taking his eyes off of the scene in front of him. "And couldn't we have at least put it towards a new couch?"

"Sorry, Mitchy."

"S'okay. Just would've really appreciated a decent place to sit." Scott let out a quiet chuckle.

"I'll remember that for next year."
