It took Mitch a good look at his family members to fully realize what he just revealed.

The conversation started off somewhat innocent. Or perhaps it wasn't, and Mitch was just that immune to it.

"So when are you guys having kids?" Was the question, and was the same one Scott and Mitch received every year since they got married. And every year they answered the same way: first with a laugh, then with the dismissive 'sometime in the future'.

Only now, the future was the present, and Mitch's admission visibly startled everyone at the table. In his defense, his own answer startled him a bit too.

"A month?" Someone finally spoke up, most likely his own mother, although he couldn't be sure.

"He said if all went well." Scott finally spoke up. A moment of silence fell over the room as he and Mitch shared a nervous look before turning back to their parents. It wasn't overly surprising to see tears in the corners of their mother's eyes, especially considering the two men were already emotional as well.

"And you two just bothered to tell us?" someone else asked.

"We wanted to keep it a secret. Just in case something fell through. But now we're just finalizing things, so yeah." Another beat of silence.

Then all at once, their parents rose from their chairs and prompted their sons to do the same. They were all wrapped up in hugs, saying their congratulations to the two. Then Scott was pulling away and on his phone, undoubtedly trying to find a picture of the boy they would soon be able to call their own.

"His name is Sebastian," he announced, turning his phone to show the infant.

As a collective 'aw' was heard, the couple exchanged one final look, and neither one of them could have possibly felt happier.
