five; wish list
ok ok, i think this is the last installment of the plastic series for this book? no guarantees tho lmao
Mitch didn't look up from his phone as he heard the sound soft, quick footsteps becoming louder and louder.
However, he did look up as a flash of white caught his eye. By the time he fully registered what was going on, his son already had his back turned to him and was running back down the hallway. Mitch then turned and stared at the piece of paper on the coffee table in front of him. He turned off his phone then picked up the paper, an amused smile washing over his face when he realized just what it was.
A couple weeks ago, Mitch told Gabe that he needed to make a wish list so that he (and Santa for that matter) knew what he wanted. And based on the first couple items, he really had his work cut out for him.
dog
Mitch knew he was completely at fault for this one. A month or two ago, Mitch and Gabe visited a friends house, who had just gotten a rescue dog. Gabe practically fell in love with her, and every time they saw a dog on the street, he begged Mitch to stop. A dog could be possible though, and Mitch put that thought in the back of his mind.
Mitch furrowed his brows at the next horribly misspelled word until he realized it said 'trampoline', and realized where the idea came from. Gabe had recently gone over to a friends house, and had loved the giant trampoline. Mitch considered it for a brief moment before remembering the whole dangerous side to it, then quickly dismissed it from his mind.
playground
Gabe had just started pre-k this year, and one of the things he loved most about it was the giant playground that sat outside of the school. Mitch wasn't sure how he'd go about getting an actual playground, and simply hoped the boy would settle for more constant visits to one.
tree house
Yet another thing a friend of his had, and yet another thing Mitch was sure wouldn't happen.
After those things were a couple more minor things, stuff that Mitch could easily go about getting. That was, until he reached the last item on the list.
scott to be my dad
Mitch reread the last item once, twice, and even a third time before it began to settle in his mind. The moment it did, he jumped up from his seat and headed towards Gabe's room. The boy was sitting on his floor, playing with a few nearby trucks.
"Gabriel." The boy's head shot up as Mitch moved to sit down next to him. His eyes were wide at the use of his full name. "What is this?" Mitch asked, showing the paper to the boy. Gabe read the last line once before continuing to play with his trucks.
"I want Scott to be my other dad."
"Why'd you put that on your wish list?"
"You said he wasn't my dad and I couldn't call him that so I wrote it down because maybe Santa would make him my dad." Mitch opened his mouth to say something, but fell short of words the more he thought about what his son just said. His shoulders slumped down as he watched Gabe.
"You really want Scott to be your other dad, huh?" Gabe quickly nodded his head.
"I'll keep that in mind."
