❞One choice can change the direction of the game❞

Life is like a baseball game. One minute the ball is heading straight towards the player with the bat, then it will curve right under his grasp. Some people wouldn't define that as life, but the Gilbert siblings do. Every day is a new game, no matter what the outcome is, they still fight for what they think is right.

When Hunter arrived back to the Salvatore boarding house after being caught by Stefan himself, he had a vase thrown at his head. Luckily for Hunter, he had dodged the object just as it came close to hitting him in the face. He knew that it was Damon who threw the vase at him, he would always do something like that when he was upset or angry.

"Next time aim more to my face." Hunter yelled. He walked into the pallor to see that Rose was leaning against the wall while Damon narrowed his eyes at him. "Damon, if you continue to glare at me with that look. I wouldn't be surprised if your eyes fell out of your sockets."

Damon gripped the glass in his hand tightly. "Are you insane?!"

"Most of the time I am. You should know this more than anyone." Hunter stated nonchalantly.

Another glass is thrown in his direction, shattering into million pieces when it hit the floor. Damon was angry, and Hunter had no clue why he was so upset. Did Stefan inform his brother on what he had done in the midst of everything that was going on? Stefan would never do something like that, especially since he knew how Damon felt about the boy.

"You had to visit Katherine and Noah, didn't you?" Damon's eyes no longer showed the shade of mischief. It was the color of cold fire laced in his normal waves of blue. "I'm sick and tired of you thinking you're better than everyone else."

"Excuse me?" Hunter blinked in confusion. He took a couple steps forward until he was completely in the room. "Would you please stop using simple sentences and elaborate more?"

"I'm not in the mood for your comments!" Damon shouted, his veins popping out of his neck in anger. He took a couple deep breaths before speaking. "Why did you go see them without asking Stefan and I?"

"I don't remember you saying that I needed permission to do something crazy."

"Hunter-"

Rose looked at the scene in worry. "Damon, calm down. There is no need to get upset over something so simple."

"At least someone in here has a brain." Hunter muttered lowly under his breath. "Where's Stefan when you need him?"

As on cue, Stefan walked around the corner and stopped when he saw the scene in front of him. His eyebrows furrowed when he saw broken glass scattered around the parlor room and anger in his brother's eyes.

"Do I even want to know what happened?"

  ➼

When Hunter arrived back to his house, he was completely done with the night. As soon as he walked through the door, Aunt Jenna started hammering him with a bunch of questions while Jeremy hovered over him like a hawk. He couldn't understand why his family must bombard him with things when he just walked through the door.

Minutes later, he found himself in the bathroom, getting ready for bed. When he rinsed his toothbrush and placed it back in the plastic cup, he walked back into his room to see that Damon Salvatore was sitting on the edge of his bed.

"Get out." Hunter snapped.

"Hunter-"

"No, Damon. You don't get to come into my house and room to lecture me again." Hunter informed him. "If I wanted to get lectured I would go to Caroline, hell, I would even go to Elena. Elena would be a better lecturer than you."

"Okay, first of all, that's offensive to say that I'm a horrible lecturer." Damon breathed out. "Lastly, I'm not here to lecture you. I'm here to apologize for my outburst earlier. It was uncalled for, and for that I'm sorry."

"Did Damon Salvatore just apologize to me?" Hunter gasped mockingly. "I'm shocked."

Damon rolled his eyes. "Is it so hard for you to believe that I actually have a heart?"

"Yes."

Hunter knew what Damon was trying to do. He wanted to make him feel bad for what happened earlier at the boarding house. The guilt for not listening to him in the first place. Damon was so intent on making sure that Hunter listened to him, that he didn't realize that the boy was hurt.

"Why does everyone think that?!" Damon turned to look at the boy. "Please enlighten me, Hunter.

"Well, your impulsive actions describe you as a heartless person. I mean you don't have any self control over your emotions." Hunter pointed out to the vampire. "You've hurt more than one person, including my family and friends. The list can go on and on, Damon."

"But I've never hurt you." Damon whispered with a frown.

"That's not the point!" Hunter felt himself snapping. He knew he was seconds away from losing control.

"Then what's the main point here?"

"The point to this story is you cause more pain in my life than others." Hunter felt tears edging closer to his eyes. "Is it ever going to stop? Are you ever going to stop hurting the people I love? Or am I doomed to watch them suffer over and over again?"

Damon was about to reply to him, but the door opening made his words get stuck in the back of his throat. Both of them turned to see Jeremy standing there with his eyes narrowed in the older vampire's direction. Jeremy did not look happy about the words that left his mouth. Hunter knew that Jeremy was either going to threaten Damon again or let it go once more.

"I think it's best if you leave Damon."

Hunter watched Damon give him one more look before walking out of the room with a glare on his face. With a sigh, Hunter sat on the edge of his bed with tears streaming down his face. He didn't know why he was crying, he just felt overwhelmed with emotions swirling inside him at the moment.

"You need to leave my brother alone." Jeremy stated to Damon once the door was closed behind them.

"And why should I listen to you, little Gilbert?"

"Im telling you to leave my brother alone before another Jasper incident is repeated. Hunter can't go through that again, Damon." Jeremy crossed his arms on top of his chest. "So do Hunter a favor and get out of the house before you hurt him even more."

The next morning came quickly and Hunter didn't know how to feel about that. A new morning means another day that either something good could happen or something terribly wrong. It also meant that new opportunities could come out of the sky like rain drops hitting the newly paved cement. He wasn't in the mood to be woken up by his sister, who just happened to do so. But that changed when the door opened to reveal Elena Gilbert herself with a determined look on her face.

Elena walked over to the curtains in his brother's room before shoving them open. "Get up, Hunter. We've got things to do."

"Screw you." Hunter grabbed the covers and placed them over his eyes so the light wouldn't shine in them.

"Nope. You're so not doing that." Elena says.

"Why can't I sleep in peace?" Hunter groaned in annoyance. "Elena, do me a favor. Turn around, walk out of the room and close the door so I can go back to sleep peacefully."

"Nope."

Next thing he knew he was being ushered to Elena's car without anymore words being shared between them. Apparently, Stefan and Damon have a plan on how to get the moonstone back from Katherine and Noah Petrova.

"So are you going to tell me what happened last night?" Elena asked suddenly.

"What do you mean?"

"I heard that Damon showed up in your room last night." Elena said nonchalantly. "What did he want to talk about?"

"Here we go again." Hunter muttered to himself. "It's none of your business, Elena. So how about you shut up and focus on your horrible driving."

"Hunter, tell me." Elena gave him a look before turning her attention back to the road. "And it's clearly my business. I don't want you involved with him."

"He just came to apologize that's all." Hunter lied, not wanting her to know the whole truth. "Also, you're not in charge of me last time I checked."

"Then, why are you acting so sad?" Elena asked, ignoring his last comment. "Did he hurt you? I swear to G-"

"You will do what, Elena?" Hunter snapped, causing her to flinch. "Huh? Both of us know that you wouldn't hurt Damon ever, even if he hurt me, too."

"Hunter, you're my brother. I will always stand up for you." Elena pointed out. "Family sticks together."

"We will see how long that lasts, shall we?"

A few minutes later, Hunter and Elena arrived to the Salvatore boarding house to see if they could talk to Rose privately. They wanted to stop Damon and Stefan from doing something stupid or something they would regret afterwards. Everyone knows that the Salvatore brothers always mess up plans, even when they make the plans themselves.

Hunter opened the front door and slammed it in his sister's face, which earned him an angry glare. He could careless on what Elena thought about him this morning or his actions. When Hunter is angry at Elena, he usually ignores her or simply tries to get on her nerves until he gets bored of doing that.

He turned around when he saw Rose coming down the stairs in only a silk robe. "It's not nice to leave a girl naked so early in the morning."

Rose looked up to see Hunter and Elena standing there; one looking annoyed while the other was completely done with this day. "Whoa. Sorry, I thought you were-

"Let me guess, you slept with Damon?" Hunter narrowed his eyes at the vampire when he noticed her outfit. "I'm sorry that Damon used you. He has a habit of seducing unloved people into his bed."

"Hunter!" Elena warned her brother, but a hint of embarrassment was presented on her face. "Ignore him, he's just mad that I woke him up early."

"There's no one else here." Rose coughed awkwardly. She glanced at Hunter before continuing. "You just missed Stefan a couple minutes ago."

"I'm pretty sure we realized that when we didn't see his car in the driveway or Damon's."

"Actually, I came to talk to you." Elena says, ignoring her brother's statement.

"If you came to talk to me, then why is he here?" Rose motioned to Hunter, who looked at her with a frown. "Never mind, I should probably get dressed then."

Hunter watched the vampire walk towards the stairs with narrowed eyes. He couldn't understand why he was being so hostile towards Rose. After everything she has done for him, he shouldn't treat her that way. But something in the back of his mind is telling him to be that way towards her for no reason. Elena would probably get upset at him for acting this way, but he could careless on what she thought.

When Rose returned downstairs she was wearing actual clothes this time. Both of the Gilbert siblings followed the vampire into the pallor room where he took a seat on the couch, Rose sitting on his left and Elena on his right. The conversation was normal, just small talk, until Elena suggested something to Rose.

"It's a bad idea." Rose shook her head.

"No, it's not. What Stefan told me, your friend Slater obviously has more information about Klaus. You and Damon just gave up before you got it." Elena pointed out.

"She has a point, Rose. If I was there, I would make it my mission to find out what I needed to survive on this damn planet." Hunter commented.

"Oh, so you would go against someone who blew up the coffee shop?" Rose looked at Hunter with narrowed eyes. When he didn't answer, she smirked. "I thought so."

"There's more to learn. We just have to find a way to learn it." Elena stated.

Rose sighed. "Why are you coming to me with this?"

"You owe me, Rose. One word from me, Damon and Stefan could have killed you for kidnapping me."

"You mean kidnapping us." Hunter corrected her. "Remember Elena, it's not all about you."

Elena sent her brother a harsh glare while Rose started to speak. "Or maybe it's because you know that they wouldn't want you doing this. Their moonstone caper gives you a chance to sneak away."

"There having a disagreement, okay?" Hunter rubbed the edge of his chin. "Can't you just shut up and help us for once?"

"It seems like you're always having a disagreement." Rose commented. She sighed loudly before looking over at Elena. "They're just trying to protect you."

"And you've proven that you couldn't care less whether I'm protected or not. So, we're back to you taking me to Slater."

"You mean you're taking us to Slater, Elena. I may be mad at you but I'm not letting you do this alone."

"So how is Damon in bed?" Hunter asked Rose. "Was he good enough for you?"

Rose started choking on the water that she was currently drinking. "W-What?"

"Nothing." Hunter smirked, looking out the window.

By the time they reached Slater's apartment, Hunter was completely done with the day. Elena has been asking questions non-stop, making him reconsider his options of saving her. If he had to chose to save Rose or Elena, he would save Rose in a heartbeat, depending on what kind of mood he was in.

Hunter followed Rose and Elena upstairs, reaching a large door. It was the type of door that Hunter would like in his own house. Even though it was old, it is brand new in his eyes, no matter what people thought about it.

Rose started banging on the door with her fist. "Slater? Slater, it's Rose. Open up!"

After a few minutes of no response from the other side, Rose turned to look at Hunter and Elena. "He's not home, sorry."

"No, we didn't come all the way out here for nothing." Elena narrowed her eyes at the vampire.

Rose sighs and pushes on the door to make it open with her vampire strength. When it did, Hunter followed Elena and Rose into the apartment. He looked around, letting his eyes wander around the room in hope to find this vampire that they came to see. Hunter heard Rose calling out to her friend, only for her to say something that made his heart drop in surprise.

"I don't think he's gonna be much help."

Hunter walks into another room to see Rose staring at a lifeless body, who he presumed was Slater. He had a stake in the middle of his chest, making him furrow his eyebrows in confusion. While Rose and Elena started talking, he went into another room and sat down to clear his thoughts. What is really going on here? Why did Slater die in the first place? Who made it their mission to kill the poor guy?

Hunter closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep, only to be stirred awake an hour later by the front doors opening. He blinked slowly and saw Damon holding Elena closely to him. How in the hell did Damon find us? Did he have a tracking device on our phones or something?

"Where is Hunter? It's time to go." Damon glared down at Elena with narrowed eyes. "Alice is soundly sleeping and won't remember a moment of this horribly stupid day."

At the sound of Hunter's footsteps, Damon turned around to see him walking towards him. "Really Hunter? Why did you let your idiot of a sister do this to herself?"

"First, don't call my sister an idiot, that's my job." Hunter glared at the vampire. "And she can look out for herself. I came with her so I wouldn't have to deal with you, Damon."

Before Damon could answer, the front doors opened to reveal three guys walking into the room. Hunter and Damon turned their head to see them, and immediately the vampire pulled the boy behind him. He couldn't understand why Damon wanted to protect him so much. Wasn't he in love with Elena or something?

"We're here to meet the doppelgänger." The man in the front stated.

Elena started to move around Damon before speaking. "Thank you for coming."

Damon grabbed Elena's arm before whispering to her. "I will break your arm." He looked at the man. "There's nothing here for you."

The man in the back suddenly drops to the floor, dead. When his body dropped to the floor, it revealed someone that Hunter thought he would never see again- Elijah. The other two vampires look back at Elijah, while he vamp-speeds towards them, looking from one to the other. Suddenly, Rose gasps and vamp-speeds out of the room.

Damon looked at Elijah in surprise. "I killed you. You were dead."

"For centuries now." Elijah stated calmly.

"Nice pun." Hunter snorted in amusement.

Elijah looks back at the man in front. "Who are you?"

"Who are you?" The man asked.

"I'm Elijah."

"Elijah, aka, the hot guy in a suit." Hunter muttered, making Damon snort beside him.

"We were gonna bring her and the boy to you, for Klaus. She's the doppelgänger and he needs his blood." The man looked at Elena and Hunter. "I don't know how they exist, but they do. Klaus will want to see them."

"Does anyone know that you're here?" Elijah asked him.

"No."

"Well, then, you have been incredibly helpful."

All of sudden, Elijah plunges his arm's into the two vampires' chests. They grunt as Elijah rips their heart out, making their bodies hit the floor with a thud. Damon nudged Hunter behind him as he prepared to fight the older vampire, but Elijah shocks them by turning around and vamp-speeding out of the apartment. Damon looks back at Elena and Hunter, both of them with shocked expressions on their faces.

"Am I the only one who thought that was hot?"
