Chapter 2:

It had been two months since Caleb had been admitted to Riverfield Sanatorium. Two months since he killed his last victim and two months without ever having a visitor in his room in the special unit of Riverfield Sanatorium. Or as he likes to call it, his own personal hell. So on instinct, Caleb was taken aback when Lexi walked through the large white door.

On second thought, he was quite exasperated rather than confused.

The only human contact he'd had since being locked up at Riverfield was the irritating nurses who refused to leave him alone and continued to pester him until he took his medicine and an even more infuriating psychiatrist who insisted on visiting each week.

Caleb was rather enjoying his afternoon nap (scheduled for this particular time, daily) when the small, shaky voice had interrupted him. His naps were important to him. Other than working out, napping is the only thing that keeps his mind at rest which is why it was understandable when an unscheduled visit from what sounds like a child angered him.

"M-Mr Castillo?" Caleb hears a fragile voice call out nervously, as if it had been terrified of him. He scoffs as he lays awake, back turned to the voice. Of course it's scared of me, he thinks. He is a psychopath after all.

Caleb tries to ignore the voice, hoping that if he pretends to be sleeping that it might just go away and leave him to have his nap.

He hears a shuffle come from where the voice came from followed by the sound of the door closing. He exhales in satisfaction of being alone again and closes his eyes to resume his nap.

But then he hears tiny little footsteps and he tenses up again. "Mr Castillo." The small voice says more confidently this time but still not loud enough to be considered a normal tone of voice.

Caleb opens his eyes and frowns but refuses to turn and face it. He really wishes it'd stop calling him that.

He hears the voice shuffle awkwardly for a minute before sighing. It settles down by the desk area situated right next to the door and shuffles of paper can be heard distinctly, along with harsh breathing.

Caleb waits a few minutes before turning around and facing this uninvited guest, hoping once more than it might just go away if he pretends to be sleeping.

He's surprised to find what or rather who is sitting at his desk when he does eventually turn to face the voice. He definitely wasn't expecting to see what he saw.

A girl, she couldn't be any older than 18, sitting awkwardly by the door wearing a very worried expression on her face, gaze carefully set on the wall. He frowns at her and turns a little more to get a clearer view. She appears to be straining her neck looking at the picture hung up on the wall next to the door.

The movement must've startled her though because one second, she's sat looking at the picture and the next she's stumbling to her feet impatiently, an action that proves to Caleb that she is most definitely scared of him.

"M-mr Castillo. Hi." She fumbles over her words and Caleb sets his expression into a hard one. She seems to notice and lowers her tone of voice a dial. "I'm uh Lexi." She clears her throat and straightens herself up. "Lexi Reid. I'm from Marina University. A student actually. I'm here to observe you for a few months for my project, if that's alright with you." She says all at once, worry still evident in the intricate features of her face.

She bites down on her lower lip and Caleb just stares. He is still situated on the bed and when he turns his body fully around, she hears her gasp a little, barely audible.

He scoffs inwardly. She's definitely scared. Oh Caleb would definitely give her a reason to be scared all right.

And with that thought, he lifts himself up from the bed in one swift movement and is striding over to the now gulping girl. She instinctively moves back a few paces and nears the door.

He stops when he's halfway through the large room and just stares at her. He doesn't want her there and she doesn't want to be there. Lexi takes a moment to recollect herself and cautiously reaches for something in her bag. She takes out a folder without breaking eye contact from the man and reaches her hand out as a sign for him to take it.

Lexi takes this opportunity to really look him down, now that he's not moving towards her.

He's the definition of beautiful. Tall and muscular with long scruffy hair and unshaven face. Even under the scruff, he had a prominent jaw structure and those cheekbones stuck out in the most attractive way. His eyes were green or grey, she couldn't tell, but something about them gave her chills. She just wasn't sure if it was in a good way or bad way. Surely someone as beautiful as this couldn't be a murderer, she thinks to herself. Looks can indeed be deceiving.

Although his features look soft and gentle, his height and built screams intimidation. He's at least a foot taller than Lexi. Most people are taller than Lexi but this man, this man was a giant. No less than 6 foot. He was very muscular in all the right places. It looked as if his plain white henley would rip effortlessly if he flexed his muscles a little.

Caleb doesn't move. Who does she think she is, he thinks to himself. He hasn't had a visitor for the entire time he's been here and she saunters in with her pretty brown hair and big brown eyes, batting her lashes and thinking she'd be able to get dirt on him. No chance.

When he fails to take the folder, Lexi takes a brave step towards him and holds it out yet again all the while, never breaking eye contact. "This is my assignment. You need to read it and sign it so that I have your permission to observe you."

Caleb blinks at her, hard expression still set on his face like the true psychopath he is. He takes a moment to really look at the girl. Woman. She most definitely doesn't look like a woman.

She's a tiny little thing-couldn't be more than 5'4". If he took a few steps closer, she'd just about reach his the top of his shoulder.

He examines her face a little more noting her big brown eyes and her rounded face. She looked familiar to Caleb.

Her hair was long and brown, but a darker shade to her eyes and a single deep dimple on her right cheek is evident on her face even when she isn't smiling. Laugh lines are also evident on her face proving she's a very joyful person in the presence of others. But not with Caleb. He seems to frown at the mere though.

His first ever visitor and she's not even happy to see him. Who could blame her.

Still though, something about her just doesn't sit right with Caleb and it starts to make him a little nervous. Not that he'd admit it of course. Instead, he narrows his eyes at her. She just looks so familiar...

"Mr Castillo?" a voice interrupts his thoughts. When he doesn't reply for the third time, she sighs in exasperation. He snaps out of his slight daze and walks over to sit on his bed, continuing to stare once sat. Lexi's still standing there, awkwardly by the door.

He wonders if she'll go away soon so he can get back to his routine nap. He could just get back to it now but her presence would make him feel uneasy. He doesn't know who she is for sure. She could be trying to kill him for all he knew.

She sighs again and takes a seat by the desk and though there's more than a safe distance between them, Caleb still feels uneasy causing his expression to remain hard.

"Oookay then. They said you'd be like this." She mutters to herself more than him.

She takes a seat at the desk and buries herself in the papers she has laid out in front of her.

She completely disregards Caleb and begins writing down on the papers, talking to herself in the process. "I'll just start with what I know. Name, Caleb Castillo. Age, twenty six. Birthplace, England. Admission, August 7th. Diagnosis..." She trails off and starts clicking her pen impatiently as if she's lost on what to write.

Caleb frowns when she begins to scoff whilst looking down at her files. Okay, she definitely doesn't know what to write.

He wants her to leave. When she scoffs again, she drops her pen and looks back at him. "Look this is really important to me. My degree is dependent on it. If you don't co-operate, I won't graduate." She explains, running a small hand through her brown locks.

The action makes her hair stick out in an odd manner and all he really wants to do is smooth it over because damn that's frustrating his obsessive compulsive disorder too.

Caleb simply blinks at her and when he doesn't reply, she gets annoyed. Abruptly standing up, she packs her files away and walks towards the door in a child-like manner. "Goodbye." She scowls and leaves, leaving Caleb confused and relieved at the same time.

He simply lies back down on the simple, single bed and attempts to get back to his nap.

"He was completely silent!" Lexi huffs. "The entire time. He was completely freaking silent!"

"You could always ask for another patient." Re says in a bored manner, not bothering to look up from her file.

Apparently, her patient wasn't quite as uncooperative as Lexi's. She had far more luck with her psychotic patient, almost finished the personal profile of the patient and the only thing Lexi had written was the guys name, age and birthplace.

Lexi huffs again, louder this time, and folds her arm stubbornly in front of her. "I'm going to fail. I'm going to fail and it'll all be his fault."

"Chill out Lexi." Re attempts to calm Lexi down from her little fit. "Just google the guy. I'm sure he'll be on there if he's murdered people recently."

Re has a point. All Lexi knows of him is that he murdered someone. Surely if she googled his name, at least some newspaper headlines may come up. Which is better than nothing at all.

"Re, you're a genius! Thank you." Lexi squeals before hugging her and leaving to go to her room.

"Yeah yeah, I know." Re mutters, diving back into her work.
