Chapter 37 - Couple of Inches
"You only have to raid three stations. These are very major ones. One is a rural radio station. One is a 5G tower. One is a large TV station, stationed in the middle of many studios. Are ya ready folks?" War Czar Jack tells them.
Everyone just nods at him in response.
"So what are you guys ridin'? We got a chopper. You can't use the jets, that's for those rich Generals. We got trucks, we go-"
"I have a van." Agent Campbell interrupts him.
"We'll go to his van." Charlotte says.
Everyone quickly returned to their previous positions in the van, excluding Richard as he's never rode it.
Their movements were so sudden that Richard was left behind with Jack.
"Are you not a psychic boy?"
"I'm kind of one."
"Weird."
Richard walks and eventually runs to the parked van. He stops for a while and tries to float towards the van. He levitated a couple of inches from the ground. He was struggling to stand straight while floating forward, indicating his struggle.
Everyone from inside the van just watches him.
"Shouldn't we-"
"He's trying his best, Agent. Come on." Yeethelle interrupts Agent Campbell.
Richard continues to struggle as his body starts to sway back and forth while he maintains his firm posture. He kept looking downward that he eventually hit the van without even knowing it.
This causes him to almost fall, only to get back up again but now a couple of inches farther than last time.
"No, no. Too high."
He tries to go down until he just grabs on the roof and moves himself manually mid-air. Using his arms to move him to the right until he gets to the doors at the back.
A psychic arm grabs his collar once he's in front of the doors that Charlotte opened.
"54 seconds." Kodak says after stopping a stopwatch.
"Where'd you get that?" Agent Campbell asks him.
He then notices a small chunk of his van's dashboard missing. Kodak then puts the stopwatch beside the spot and it returns to normal.
"I made it."
"There's so much about being a psychic that I never got to know."
"What does that have to do with what I said?"
"I don't know it's possible for psychics to just create something from something."
"I don't know either. I just remember learning about how stopwatches are made on TV and after that I could just make one."
The van starts up as they move towards Jack.
"That was painful to watch." Jack says.
"Watch what?" Campbell asks him.
"Seeing that guy float."
Richard seemed to be embarrassed from hearing that.
"Here's the coordinates for all three." Jack says as he hands the Agent a piece of paper.
"We'll be there when we do." Jack tells him before the van drives away.
"What's that supposed to mean?" the Agent asks out.
"So they're not really coming? Or once they do, it's probably when we're done. I don't trust that guy a single bit." Hirohiko says.
"Are those Revolution guys really as horrible as you've told us?" Yeethelle asks Hiro.
"Of course they are. Their friendliness is just for show."
"Then why don't we fight them too?"
"We can't just fight them. They are a unit. A group of coordinated psychics. We did manage to hit them where it really hurts, but we can't just eliminate groups like that. They are made of an ideology that can tie together even the most unlikely of people. Only individuals die, but not ideologies. As long as someone believes in a revolution in the way that they do it, they're group isn't dying any time soln. We're gonna be slaughtering a lot of our own kind if we ever go down that path."
"Then let's hurt them again. If we all feel like there's something suspicious about these operations, then we can sabotage them." Agent Campbell implies.
"We don't even know what they're planning." Charlotte says.
"But we can at least infer that it has something to do with these places." Agent Campbell.
"What do you suggest, Agent?" she asks him.
"They said that they'll be breaking radio towers and satellites right? But why don't they want us to break these places though? Even after we use it. They might be trying to control the flow of information all around America. Leaving only these three places untouched for them to control. I suggest that we trash these places after sending our message to Lord Henry."
"Hell yeah." Richard says.
"It's weird seeing you in the backseat." Yeethelle tells Richard.
"It's weird seeing YOU in the back seat too. It's gonna be easier when we float again right? Just like last time?"
"I learned a couple of new tricks from your friends while you were gone. Just wait for it okay." Agent Campbell sleepily says.
"But seriously though, I thought you liked it at the front. We could still switch, I mean, my legs would like to do a couple of stretches." Kodak tells Richard.
"I just figured that I still have a lot to learn, so I'll just be here at the back."
Agent Campbell falls asleep as they float once more into the night skies.
"Wake up soldier!!!" Headmaster Fabian Campbell screams out.
Derrick wakes up.
"You don't wanna disappoint me to my superiors, don't you?"
"No, I won't."
"Good, now stop sleeping. We'll arrive at the camp any minute now. You're gonna have a lot of new friends there with these same special gifts."
A horrible feeling of numbness covers the entirety of Derrick's head.
"Maybe that's enough for him today, Headmaster." a scientist says.
"Are you kidding me? Back in my day I didn't all have this fancy tech to help me develop my mind powers. I'm sure he could take it. Give it another spin, doctor." Fabian tells the scientist.
Going back to the present, the Agent seemed to be acting strange even at his sleep causing turbulence on their flight.
"Hey!!! Hey, what's wrong??" Kodak says to the Agent.
He touches the Agent's head. This causes him to feel something he hasn't felt in a long time and it was painful.
"Stop!!!" Kodak screamed inside the Agent's head.
The electrocution of his nerves had stopped and he was transferred back to reality.
"We would've crashed because of you!!!" Kodak screamed at the now conscious Agent.
"Thanks, kid. Maybe we're not so different after all."
"That's not the point of what I said, you could have killed us."
"Nah, we only went down by a couple of inches so we should be fine." the Agent tells him before patting Kodak's head in a fatherly affectionate gesture.
"Want me turn this up?" the Agent points at the cassette tape player on his van.
Kodak nods in agreement and says "As long as you let me help you in flying this thing, sure."
*Don't Bring Me Down by Electric Light Orchestra plays on the cassette tape player*
Their ride continued to fly smoothly with both the guys at the front maneuvering it.
