Chapter 31 - New Home
A dark dungeon. Chains dangling and rats running around. These families of rats walk away from the light slowly creeping on the old wooden furniture.
The light began its chase from a stone staircase leading up to a door that hasn't been opened in a while.
A despaired head with blemishes of blood rests on a dark blue pillow.
A camcorder sits beside a cold porridge on the wooden table as it was being observed by one oblivious rat.
Slowly, the rat's body combusts and all its guts fly to a fireplace inside the miserable bunker.
The bodies of all its other relatives soon followed. Scorching on the cozy looking fireplace, different from the rest of the room's interior.
"Hideous rats. Anyhow, this will be your new home David. Every time I go out to do something I'll bring this." Lord Henry says as he grabs the camcorder and turns it on.
He begins to mimic a professional director looking for the perfect shot.
"This is a pretty dark room. Pretty convenient that this thing has night vision." he says while recording David, with his face flat on the bed.
"I'll have the kids set up a projector in here so every time I come home from a successful crusade, we'll watch various clips of my deeds together. How do you like your popcorn? Buttery and salty, cheesy, maybe barbecue? Or you're a sour cream guy? Doesn't matter. Watching you suffer from watching those clips will be sure to give me a savory satisfaction way better than popcorn."
It was an hour past midnight, but a voice was telling Cole, Poppy, Travis and Benson to go to the garden.
"8:30 in the morning you said." Travis tells the Lord
"It's 1:30 am Travis. I'm 7 hours early."
A morning earlier....
"He said 8:30 in the morning." Travis complains.
"Something must be wrong, something must not be in-line with the texts." Benson tells him.
"Oh great, that reason again. What exactly are those texts? I didn't sign up to be in a cult or anything. Plus, I haven't killed anyone in a little while and it's bothering me." Poppy says.
"I'm pretty bothered. But not for that same reason, our Wi-Fi now has a stupid time limit. We are not children, I'm ditchin' this place." Cole exclaims.
"No. No one is leaving. We are a team alright, just as the Lord said." Benson lectures them.
"Why is he even called a Lord? I fucking knew this was some psychic cult. I'm outta here, later bitches." Poppy says.
"He is the savior of us psychics. Haven't I already said that a lot?"
"Yes, you have said that a lot and it's getting annoying." Poppy replies.
"Please do not forget what he did for all of you. He is probably making progress upon making his promises come true. I may not know his entire history, but I've been with him long enough to know that he is a man of his word and he has never lied to anyone ever. So please, calm down children. When he arrives, I'll request for a little 'Study Time'."
"So you think this little 'Study Time' will change our minds, just like that?" Poppy continues to question Benson.
"On November 12, 2002, a baby girl that was given a scientific name instead of a real name was born. Famously labeled by the scientists as Homo Planteras B. A successful test tube baby from only a mother and a bunch of plants. If you think that can't get any weirder, the mother was a psychic too. The result, an interesting girl that was supposed to be groomed as a menace to society."
"I am a menace. I was born that way."
"Yes, but the kind of menace you wanted didn't align with theirs. You were different and they hated you for it. You were only a tool for their exploits."
"There was never any confirmation about that.."
"Psychics can read minds Poppy. We read those scientist's minds. How about you look at this important unaltered memory?" Benson says before reaching his hand towards hers.
She accepts Benson's hand and goes into a memory.
"Turns out that psychic energy can flow on plants too Chiquitita. The flow is even more efficient, which is weird. Perhaps psychic energy has something to do with... life. Life energy."
"Well it worked on a dog like you've said, it will definitely work on plants."
"But plants can't think, Chiquitita, which is why we need it to be a human. Call this a start in our creation of a very powerful psychic."
"Oooohhh. So she's going to be like my little sister, huh?!?!? This is so awesome!!!"
"Only if she had any idea how much I despise these psychics." David says to himself before pulling the plug on the life support of Homo Planteras B's mother.
The memory ends there and instead of looking heartbroken, Poppy clenches her fist and an oak tree from outside smashes itself through the castle's walls. She screams in rage and anger as the tree proceeds to rub itself through the rest of the other walls, putting a long vertical hole in one of the castle's halls.
"Oh dear, this castle will not be standing any longer if these kids keep on doing stuff like that." Amanda says while looking at them at the garden.
"I believe you owe everyone some explanation for us to stay, not just Poppy." Travis tells Benson.
"Of course, Travis. Everyone just come take my hand." Benson says before reaching both of his hands this time.
Travis immediately grabs it, followed by Cole joining in too.
"Cole will go first, only Lord Henry knows why you are here Travis. Besides having the Queen's blood of course." Benson says.
Travis angrily lets go of Benson's hand.
"Honey, how are we going to explain this to the kids? We can't just get them excited into going to school only to tell them later on that they will not."
"Honey, calm down."
"Calm down?!?!? We are days away from getting kicked out of this house. When are we going to do something? When the kids are dying of starvation? And you have this baby inside of you..."
A VHS tape pops out of its player.
"Send them a letter. They'll love to hear what we have in store for them."
"One hundred thousand?? Dollars??? Honey, this is it. We need this. It's just four weekly sessions. They promised it to be safe. Please do it. Do it for our baby. Do it for our family."
"Okay." she replies while getting teary-eyed from their conversation.
"The baby will come out on the 28th of July. Keep spying on them until then."
"And so it happened, on July 28, 2003, you were born Cole. That was when they spied on your family for one last time after receiving an eerie letter on the mail." Benson tells Cole.
"Congratulations!!! Your child is one of the few successful ones we have officially converted into wonderful beings. We will come for him and bring him to our own special facility made for children like him. Love, The CCCC Admin. What the hell is the CCCC? They're not taking our baby!"
"Little does his illiterate ass know that the day he accepted the money, he already sold his son to us. This is another catch, Headmaster Baskins."
"Oh, you don't have to call me that Fabian. You can just call me Carol."
Cumulonimbus clouds begin to move to their direction.
"Your true power relies on the wind. But your psychic abilities said no and it even allowed you to control the thunder. You were looking for a new home and you felt like home here. Lord Henry gave you a new home. All of you were given new homes."
