Chapter 11 - "Calm" Before The Storms
"Moo!!!"
A herd of cattle splashes a mud pond and a transparent whale puffs gases as a training montage is about to start, though there is no motivational soundtrack to not over-saturate the last chapter's approach.
"Stop scaring off the cows Patricia." Charlotte tells her.
"It's pretty late. Can we continue tomorrow?" Richard asks them.
"Are you afraid of the dark? We have more glowsticks at the attic." Hirohiko suggests.
"I'm not going to the attic alone." Yeethelle says.
Kodak looks at her with his reddish eyes.
"Okay, fine."
They walk towards the barn together, with Yeethelle holding on to Kodak's arms as Kodak reluctantly looks at the path ahead.
"No, I'm not. I'm not afraid of the dark. I'm just pretty tired you know." Richard tells Hirohiko.
"After all that time you spent sleeping in the car and you're still tired." Hirohiko tells him.
"Those weren't exactly sleeps that give me energy, those were like quick naps." Richard says.
"I understand. It's not my fault that you're just that weak."
"That's not a nice thing to say." Richard says in his head.
"Starting tomorrow, we'll try helping you attain the proper mental strength that will help you use your abilities more efficiently."
"I guess his voice isn't as terrifying as his attitude." Richard thought.
"Umm wait, what kind of training are we exactly going to do tonight?"
"We'll just meditate and get the feel of the cold night's wind."
"For a minute I thought we'll perform a bunch of physical activities. I mean, I should have known that since they always told me that their minds are the secret to their abilities. I mean look at Hirohiko, with that belly who would have thought he does exercise or something. Silly me." Richard adds to the list of his many internal monologues.
"Hey, Hiro.. or Hirohiko."
"You can also call me Hiro."
"Alright, Hiro. How about we do this now?"
"What's with the sudden change of your mind? If that's what you wish then I'll call out Charlotte to help me out with this."
Hirohiko looks around as Charlotte is nowhere visible.
"What exactly did you smell off this time Patricia?" Charlotte asks telepathically.
They ran through a hill as an aura became visible behind the bushes. It was an unconscious man just sitting there.
Back at the barnyard, dozens of farmers encircle a small haystack. Before Yeethelle had a chance to say something, Kodak dragged her inside the barn.
"Let's just focus on finding the glowsticks."
"Do the farmers really do that here? Never seen them stand around in circles like that."
"Oh come on. It's not like we really know those folks."
"Can't you just turn your stupid bong into a glowstick?"
"If it was a glowing bong, then we wouldn't have any problems here. Plus, it was you that dragged me here so let's just get this over with."
"Hmph."
"Found it. That was quick."
A spider jumps out of the box. Kodak screamed and fell on his feet. He turns the dollars in his pocket into a green newspaper-like object rolled up.
"Where the fuck are you? You can't just jump scare me like that and get away with it."
"Leave it be pussy. It's just a spider. It's not like its venomous or anything."
Yeethelle telekinetically lifts up the box of glowsticks.
"Maybe I can carry this one with my arms. Yeah, just to show him up." Yeethelle said inside her head.
A spider crawls into her arms as she took ahold of the box. She squealed and dropped off the box. Her reaction sent off some kind of wave that shook some stuff inside the barn.
"I will kill you!!!" Yeethelle says as her aura resonates and leaves a mark on the ground like a Super Saiyan transformation.
Kodak grabs a plank on the floor and turns it into a wooden swatter. He ran towards Yeethelle's surroundings, swatting every perimeter around them. Yeethelle kept searching for the spider.
A small green glow becomes visible on the wooden foundation of the barn's second floor. It was a spider nest. They immediately ran outside the barn and back to the open area with a picnic cloth on the ground, carrying the box of course.
"Wait, where's Hiro and Richard?" Yeethelle asks.
Kodak looks at the table and notices that his bong is missing.
"Where's my Dopey Dick???"
"God, I hate that name."
"Good thing I got Patricia to run back down and call you boys. I found this note." Charlotte says as she hands the note to Hirohiko.
"My message is in his mind." Hirohiko reads out.
They remove the various layers of cloth concealing that man's face.
"Freddie???"
They quickly flew down the hill with Hirohiko carrying Freddie. They were easily noticed by Kodak and Yeethelle, who quickly followed them.
They put him down the rose-colored chair couch. Hirohiko tries shaking his shoulder lightly, but it's not working. Charlotte touches his head but it's not waking him up.
"He has bandages all around his body. Could he be right?" Charlotte says.
"Well there aren't much psychics out there that know us, so it's gotta be that guy." Hirohiko replies.
"Let's read his mind now. Like what the note says." Richard tells them.
Yeethelle enters Freddie's mind. Kodak grabs her hand as his other hand gets grabbed by Charlotte. Charlotte then connects her strings to the TV.
Freddie's arms furiously light up. Hirohiko takes a hold of his arms and suppresses the flames.
"Maybe I can help them with that power that I have." Richard says to himself.
Richard approaches Freddie and takes his hand. Freddie's eyes open as his arm stops resisting Hirohiko.
"The message. I can't remember the message."
The static on the TV finally projects a certain scene.
It was the inside of an interrogation room. In front of Freddie is his interrogator. The words coming out of the interrogator's mouth were silenced by the high-pitched beeping.
"Did you understand a word I just said?" the interrogator says.
A woman walks into the room and whispers something to the interrogator.
"How did Sarah fuck this up so bad?"
They left the room, leaving Freddie alone. You can hear him gasping a lot and grunting from the pain he feels from his various body parts. Nothing has been happening since then.
"Can we fast forward a little bit?" Hirohiko tells Charlotte.
The footage fast-forwards until the lights inside the interrogation started flickering.
Agent Campbell enters the room and sits on a chair.
"You will not remember any of this once I inject you with this serum. But it will still be saved in your mind for it to be read by others. I can't do this anymore. I've seen a lot of my men die for nothing. I've taken innocent lives all for some petty competition. Someone is coming for him. The man with the blood. They can't seem to find a way to track him now, but he is definitely not gonna stop trying. Beware this man." Agent Campbell says as he grabs a printed photo of Lord Henry out of thin air.
"I'm the only one that has this picture. I don't even know if I'll get to live another day. But there's more fucked up things going on here than ever. That man is just one of our many problems that they say we can handle, but in reality we can't. We're helpless. I'll try getting this man to all five of you. There are so many people that want what his blood contains. Good luck."
The footage ends after Agent Campbell reaches for Freddie's neck and injects the contents of the syringe in Freddie.
Before someone was able to comment on what they just saw, a farmer taps on the window with the blinds off. Then a bunch of other farmers start tapping as well.
Someone knocks on the door. The gang hesitates to open it, but Hirohiko insists on walking towards the door and opening it.
"Good evening, is this property the ownership of Ferdinand Barboza?"
"Yes."
"I see. May I come in?"
"Why?"
"This land is now for lease. I'd like to discuss how.."
The businessman's movements were restricted.
"This one is being mind-controlled."
"How'd you know that?" Richard asks him.
The man drops on the floor with his body stiffened.
Another person emerges at the left side of the porch. It can be visually implied that he unshrunk himself.
"You son of a bitch. What are you doing..."
Hirohiko wasn't able to finish his sentence as the man pointed his palm towards Hirohiko in a pushing manner. Hirohiko looked like he was about to drop on the floor but stopped it from happening halfway through. He then shrunk to the size of a child as the man in a trench coat violently stepped on him.
Charlotte immediately pulled Hirohiko to her and Kodak turned a nearby vase into a scimitar. Kodak proceeds to charge on the man but as soon as he swings his scimitar, the man jumps forward and shrunk, barely missing the scimitar and then unshrinking himself again. This time he was closer to Kodak, in which he does his disorienting psychic push again, causing Kodak to fall on his feet for a bit only to be slashed on his face by the scimitar he dropped.
Yeethelle then got a hold of the man and launched him outside the house. The farmers on the window then broke through and threw a brick on Richard.
"Hey, no!!!" Richard says as he tries to dodge the brick.
The brick stopped mid-air and dropped after one second. Richard was shocked by this but then another brick was thrown. This time it hit Richard on his shoulder, with Richard kneeling on the floor from the pain. Another farmer then launches a pitchfork directly at Richard's direction. The pitchfork shrunk significantly that it only impaled the same arm that was struck by the brick.
The man in a trench coat went inside the room again.
"Can't we be civilized and talk first?"
