III- Introducing...Psych!!

DaydreamShimmer, this is to tide you over until I come back. I know I haven't written in this book in quite awhile. So, to all of my dedicated readers, thanks for your patience.

The sun rises and my phone is ringing when I wake up. I smack the side table next to my bed to try to silence it. Finally, I find it and hit the answer button without thinking twice.

"Hello?" I say groggily into the phone.

"Hey, Liz! I didn't wake you up, did I?" Gus asks over the phone and an easy smile slides onto my face.

"Nope," I lie through my teeth, "Couldn't be more awake if I tried." I hear a voice in the background.

"You woke her up, Gus," Shawn's voice echoes through the phone and I roll my eyes without thinking twice.

"Why is he with you?" I ask Gus and I hear Gus say to Shawn,

"Do you want to walk or not?" I cross my arms over my tank top and wait for my cousin to answer.

"Gus..." I call out and Gus returns to the phone.

"Sorry, Liz," he says quickly, "Do you want us to pick you up? We haven't grabbed breakfast yet."

"You haven't?" I ask as I start to rummage around in my suitcase for some clothes.

"No. Would you like to join us?" Gus asks and I think for a second.

"Okay. I have nothing better to do and this house feels so lonely without Mom and Dad here so, I guess I might as well," I say and I hear a muffled conversation going on in the background, "Guys?"

"We'll come pick you up in a few," Gus says and his voice makes me jump a little since I was not expecting it.

"Okay, thanks," I reply and the two of us hang up. I toss my phone onto my bed and get changed into some suitable clothes for the day. Once I am changed, I flop onto my parent's couch and scroll my phone until Gus arrives.

A few minutes later, a knock rings out on the door and my cousin is standing on the other side with Shawn.

"What is he doing here?" I ask Gus impatiently and Gus shrugs.

"He wouldn't stay in the car," he says and Shawn folds his arms across his chest.

"When do I get to be a part of this conversation?" Shawn asks and I shake my head.

"I'm afraid you don't," I say as I put my shoes on. Shawn looks sad and I roll my eyes.

"I forgot how bad of a morning person you were," he says and I resist the urge to slap him. Gus can see it in my eyes.

"I won't be sad if you do," he says to me and Shawn looks sad.

"Lizzy, I never thought you would sink that low," he says. I push past him and out to Gus's car.

"Don't mess with her, Shawn," I hear Gus say and Shawn starts to say something, but I don't quite catch what it is. I jump into the passenger seat of Gus's car and wait for him and Shawn to get over their argument. All I want is food and my parents. That's all I want. Is that too much to ask? Well, and maybe some peace and quiet from the wild card that is Shawn Spencer. Especially with what is going on right now with my parents.  I notice Gus's car keys laying on the driver's seat. How mad would he be if I drove away in his car and got myself some breakfast? I resist the urge to pick up the car keys and slide into the driver's seat. Gus and Shawn move towards the car and Gus opens the driver's side door. He slides in and smiles at me.

"I'm hungry," I say and Gus turns to glare at Shawn.

"Blame it all on him," he says as he starts to drive the small blue car out of our driveway.

"Hey, Gus! I forgot something at the office. Can we stop by so I can grab it?" Shawn asks and Gus groans.

"You are ridiculous," Gus says as he drives through town. He pulls into a small office building across the street from the beach. As soon as the car is parked, Shawn runs inside.

"Psych?" I ask Gus, reading the sign and Gus nods.

"It's our fake psychic detective agency. You know how Shawn is, right? Hyper observant, can remember things really well. He used to do it all the time when we were kids," he says and I think for a moment.

"Oh yeah," I say, "I remember."

I am sixteen years old and sitting in the Santa Barbara Police Department. It is late on a Friday night and my whole family is here with me. Something has happened to my brother, Michael. I'm not entirely sure why we are at the police station instead of the hospital. My parents wanted to go to the hospital but, the Chief of Police called us here. Henry Spencer, my brother's mentor, exits out of the Chief's office. His eyes are tear stained. This cannot be good. Henry approaches us and nods to the doors of the police station.

"Let's take this to the hospital. I'm sorry about the long wait. I need to call my son and tell him that I'm going to be late. He also might want to know about this," Henry says as he heads further into the department in order to find a phone. A few moments later, Henry walks out again and smiles at us.

"He'll meet us at the hospital," Henry says and all of us walk out of the police station together. I get into the back of my parents' car, sandwiched in between my two older sisters. My parents drive quickly over to the hospital where I see Shawn and the Gusters gathered outside of the hospital. As soon as I get out of the car, Gus and Shawn come over. The Gusters look just as nervous as my family. I stand in between the two boys and even though Shawn is not my favorite person in the world, any person will do for moral support right now. Shawn Spencer is more tolerable than some of the girls at my school. Gus looks at me nervously.

"Are you okay? Were you with him?" Gus asks and I shake my head quickly. Gus hugs me tightly to his chest.

"Dude, she's not gonna disappear," Shawn says and I chuckle at Shawn trying to lighten the mood a little. Gus glares at him and finally lets go of me.

"I wasn't with him, but car accidents are scary things to even hear about," I say and Gus nods quickly. Our group starts to walk into the hospital and I walk between Shawn and Gus. Each one of them has an arm slung protectively over my shoulders.  The three of us walk in and I see Shelby, who has a huge crush on Chris, a guy in my class who I like. Somehow, she found out about our friendship and how we are rapidly approaching a relationship and now she hates my guts. Shawn sees her and I raise an eyebrow. I feel him tighten his hand on my shoulder.

"Hey, Lizzy!" Shelby says, a huge fake smile plastered on her face. Fortunately for Shawn, Gus, and I, Shelby isn't hard to please when it comes to guys. She'll take whoever will pay attention to her.

"Why don't you come to my dad's private office with me? There's some water in there and we can talk about your brother," Shelby continues and I tense considerably. Shawn and Gus exchange a look and Shawn gently gives my shoulder a squeeze before walking over to Shelby.

"Hey, Shelby! What are the rest of us? Chopped liver?" Shawn asks with a huge smirk on his face.

"Oh, Shawn!! You're not chopped liver! I just wanted to make sure that Shelby felt nice and welcomed here," She says and I can see her eyes shooting daggers at me. Gus sees this too and he nods to Shawn and Shelby.

"We'll let you two talk," He says to the two of them. Gus and I start walking up the stairs. He keeps his arm on my shoulder as we walk. Neither of us say anything. Shawn and Shelby are both not around, so I don't have to worry about either one of them. Except, I currently am appreciating Shawn's act of heroism. He's proving to be pretty supportive in a tough time. Even something small like distracting Shelby, which I honestly don't even want to know what that entails.

A few moments later, we arrive at my brother's hospital room. I enter with my family and I see my brother lying on the hospital bed, looking as though each breath he takes could be his last. His eyes open and he smiles up at up.

"Hey, Mom and Dad, Mags, Alex, Liz," Michael says, greeting us all in turn. I smile at my brother. Henry Spencer comes in a few minutes later and Michael smiles.

"Hey, kid," Henry says, "Warn us next time you're gonna give us a scare." The Gusters come in quickly after that and Michael chuckles.

"Wow. I wasn't expecting such a crowd," Michael says as he looks around and then his brow furrows, "Wait, where's Little Man?" Both Gus and I's families look confused but, Gus, Henry, and I all share a knowing look.

"He'll be here soon, Mike," I say and Gus and I exchange glances.

"Did Little Man get caught up with someone?" Michael asks and I shrug.

"I hope not for his sake," I say and Michael grins at me.

"Is that little chick that keeps trying to steal your boyfriend here?" he asks, "I thought I saw her earlier." I roll my eyes.

"Michael, Chris is not my boyfriend!!" I protest and Michael and Gus share a knowing look.

"Do you agree with me?" he asks and Gus nods. I gently shove Gus, causing Aunt Winnie to panic a little bit.

"You weren't supposed to agree with him!! You're supposed to take my side  in things. Especially things like this," I say and Gus straightens his shirt out.

"I can agree with whoever I want to agree with, Liz," Gus says and I roll my eyes at him.

"Alright whatever," I say and Gus smiles at me.

"Thank you," he says.

"But, I guess the same goes for you and Melissa Beck," I replay and Gus frowns at me. Michael smiles at Gus.

"Liz wins this round, Gus," he says and starts talking to Henry. Gus and I begin to have a stare down when suddenly, the door flies open and bangs against the wall. Shawn stands breathless in the hallway and I can see the faint lines of lipstick smeared down the side of his face. He looks around before quickly hurrying inside and shutting the door. Shawn stands with his back against the door and absolutely everyone is staring at him.

"That bad, huh?" Gus asks and Shawn nods.

"She was vicious like a lioness feasting on her prey," he replies and Aunt Winnie shudders a little bit.

"Women should never treat men like that. Elizabeth? Joy? Do you two hear me?" she asks us and both of us girls nod. I turn back to Shawn, who is examining himself in the mirror. He eventually gives up and turns back to Gus and I. Michael's eyes light up from his conversation with Henry.

"Little Man!!" He says loudly and shakes Shawn's hand, "Okay, what happened to me?" I watch as Shawn's eyes travel over Michael's injuries. Henry crosses his arms and watches his son do what he had trained him so hard to do. Shawn starts looking around the room at various things and then he speaks.

"You've broken several bones, have some internal bleeding that the doctors are having some trouble stopping, and you broke almost every bone in your right arm," he says and everyone begins to clap.

"Nicely done," Michael says thoroughly impressed with Shawn and Henry shrugs.

"He could have done better," he says.

"There were some things you couldn't tell just by looking at me or from trying to read a clipboard from across the room," Michael says to Henry, "Give him some credit!" Shawn turns back to Gus and I.

"So, what happened out there, Mike?" Henry asks and Michael shakes his head.

"I wasn't discreet enough in my stakeout, Henry. I'm sorry. The bad guys caught on and they started chasing me. The last thing I remember is the sound of my windshield breaking and smashing into a million little pieces," Michael says and Henry shakes his head.

"I thought I trained you better than that. You tend to like thrills more than anything!" Henry scolds.

"I'm sorry, Henry. I'll do better next time," Michael says sadly and Henry frowns.

"I don't know that there's going to be a next time. Look at how torn up you are," he says and Michael nods sadly, "But, that doesn't mean that I want you giving up." Michael smiles at Henry than at everyone else.

"Thanks everyone, for being here. It really means a lot to me," he says and the rest of us nod. My parents decide that they are going to stay in the hospital with my brother. They want my sisters and I to go home and get some rest. I hug my parents and my brother good night. My sisters are holding the car keys but they both look like they want to get into some trouble.

"Liz, Maggie and I are going to go out and hang out with the guys. You can come with us or you can," Alex starts to say, but I stop her.

"I think I'll go home," I say and my sisters nod, "Do you mind dropping me off?"

"The sooner we get to the boys the better," Maggie says quietly.

"I would like to go home!" I say and Alex sighs,

"Alright, we'll drop her off on the way. I really wanted to get to the boys though."

A day or two goes by and my parents spend every second of those days with my brother in the hospital. I am sitting on the couch at Gus's house with him and Shawn, watching TV. Suddenly, the Guster's landline begins to ring. Gus picks up and hands it to me.

"It's for you," he says and I take it and walk as far away as the cord will let me.

"Hello?" I ask and I can already hear my parents' voices shaking when they speak.

"Lizzy, Michael's gone. He passed away this morning," My mom says and tears quickly roll down my cheeks. I'm not usually one for dramatics but, I sit down on the floor and begin to cry. Gus and Shawn both look over and Shawn slides to the floor next to me and Gus starts to talk to my parents. He hangs up a couple minutes later.

"He's gone," I say shakily to Shawn and Shawn's eyes become misty. Gus's eyes start to water. He joins Shawn and I on the ground and all three of us begin to cry.

"I'm so sorry," Shawn whispers and the three of us all hug as we sit on the floor.

A couple of hours later, I sit at the police station outside of the Chief's office. Neither Shawn nor Gus leave my side as we sit and wait. Henry comes out of the office and looks at all three of us.  He specifically looks at me and then the two boys.

"Something does not add up about his death. He seemed to be doing well, but in his condition, he could have passed away suddenly.  There wasn't anything unusual but, something does not feel right about this," Henry says, "I don't think anyone is going to investigate it, but if I have the time, I will."

"You're never going to have the time, Dad," Shawn says and Henry glares at him.

"I know that all three of you are going to take Michael's death very personally," he says and Shawn starts to protest, but Henry stops him, "Don't say you won't, Shawn. I know you will." The door to the Chief's office opens and an officer calls Henry back inside. My parents come out of the office and motion to me.

"Let's go home," My mom says and I slowly start to follow her, but Shawn stops me.

"Lizzy, if my dad doesn't look into this more, I will. You can bet that on that," he whispers and I give him a look of surprise.

"Won't you get caught?" I ask and Shawn shakes his head.

"I'll do it even if it takes me forever to," he says and I shrug my shoulders.

"Thanks and good luck with that," I say. Gus hugs me goodbye and holds on tighter than usual.

"I'm here for you if you need anything," he says and I nod.

"I'll probably talk to you later," I say and I follow my parents out of the station and onto the next chapter of my now sorrow filled life.

I quickly wipe the tears from eyes that spring from thinking about the memory. Gus notices and raises an eyebrow at me.

"You okay?" he asks and I nod, "No, you're not."

"Okay. Fine. I'm not okay," I say and Gus gives me a side hug. Shawn comes out a couple seconds later and I wipe the tears from my eyes very quickly. Gus raises an eyebrow, but doesn't say anything. Shawn comes out and throws open my car door.

"Welcome to Psych!" he says excitedly and I step out of the car.

"Gus filled me in," I say, but Shawn comes closer.

"Want a private tour?" he asks as he reaches for my hand and I yank my hand away.

"I think I can handle my own tour. Thank you very much," I say and Gus gets out of the car. I follow my cousin inside and he shows me around. Shawn follows close behind us.

"This is the place where the magic happens," Shawn says as I walk in.

"This looks nice. So, is this where you get all of your psychic visions or whatever you call them?" I ask and Shawn's brow furrows.

"Lizzy! That hurts,"he says sadly and I roll my eyes.

"I think you and your big ego will get over it," I say and Gus stifles a laugh. I sit on my cousin's desk, which is all neat and organized as expected.

"I don't get my psychic visions here. This is where our clients meet up with us," Shawn says. I nod and continue looking around. Large windows give way to some beautiful views of the beach. The office space as a whole is kind of messy, but that's to be expected when there are two guys hanging out here all the time.

"You guys did a good job with this," I say with a smile and Gus grins.

"Thanks, Lizzy. Now, that you've seen Psych and what we've been up to. What do you say to some breakfast?" he asks and I nod. Shawn locks up the office and Gus turns to him quickly.

"Did you grab what you needed?"he asks and Shawn points to me.

"I didn't really need anything. I just wanted to show Lizzy the Psych office," he says and walks to the car. Shawn starts to snicker at our disbelief.

"That's not funny, Shawn!!" Gus snaps and I walk down to the car. Gus goes to check to make sure that the door is locked...again. I jump into the passenger seat and Shawn asks,

"So, what do you say? Is Psych good enough for solving what may have happened to your parents and maybe even your brother?" My eyes widen.

"You remember that?" I ask and Shawn nods.

"I promised you that I would look into it and with the incident of your parents, now seems like a good a time as any to take a peek into what happened to your brother," he says, "You in?"

"You never said I had to help," I protest and Shawn shrugs.

"You can get your parents to talk more than I can," he says and I groan.

"Alright. Fine. But, let me do things my way," I say and Shawn smiles flirtatiously,

"In my opinion, that's the best way to do it." Gus climbs into the car, shoots a look of confusion and drives us to breakfast.

AN:/ Hey peeps!!! This story is also back from the book dead. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. The plot will get better, I promise. Things are going to get interesting. I'm still sort of in the introductory phase of writing things but, Lizzy will start talking to her parents and Shawn might have a vision or something next chapter. Next chapter, I am also planning on bringing in Lassiter and Juliet. I am stuck on one thing for this book. I want Lizzy to become a part of the Psych team, but I'm not sure what I want her to do. She's not going to be a "Psychic" like Shawn, but I want her to help with the cases somehow. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them. Once again, PSA: I am going to be on hiatus from later on today until Wednesday. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and I hope all of you have a wonderful beginning to your week!! Thanks for reading, commenting, voting, or doing whatever it is you do on here!! I hope that this book is enjoyable and accurate when it comes to characters and personalities. See you around, friends.
