Chapter Twenty-two: Darkness
Professor Seabend immediately dove into attack mode, crying out with shock and rage. She sent a blast of flame at the Geokinetic who had attacked Mr Fujimoto.
Shane was shocked by the power and strength of her attack. It was a roaring inferno, so strong that he felt a wave of heat blast into him.
Following Professor Seabend's lead, Shane went into the offensive too.
In total, there were five Onyx League members left.
And a whole class to save.
Shane sprinted forward, reaching out with two hands.
Twin bolts of electricity sprang forward, shocking the Onyx League member in front of him. Stunned, his enemy stumbled backwards
Shane sent a kick into their stomach. They went reeling back, pushed away by the force.
All of a sudden, they regained their footing.
Too fast.
The Onyx League member was able to focus their energy on a Psychokinetic attack. Taken by surprise, Shane barely had time to flinch away, raising his hands to protect his face in a feeble defensive position.
He tensed, waiting for the attack.
At any moment, the force of the assault would reach him.
Any moment...
But nothing came.
Nothing.
No shocking electricity, no burning fire. Not a single wave of water, or gust of air. Just... nothing.
Slowly, Shane lowered his hands to get a look at his would-be attacker.
He saw them, standing in front of him, just doing... nothing.
And then their face broke into a sudden grin.
They outstretched their hands.
In a heartbeat, a cloud of darkness formed around their feet.
It swirled, building power.
Then it surged directly towards Shane, an ocean of blackness, a midnight wave.
And everything went black.
Shane was blind.
With a pulse of horror and shock, he realised that his enemy was an Umbrakinetic. In a second, they had changed the course of the fight towards their favour.
They had concentrated a mass of shadows and sent it towards him. He was blinded, without a single beam of light to guide him. He couldn't see anything.
Shane's heart raced. Sight was a human's most valuable sense, especially in a battle. He felt the cold claws of panic grip his mind, slipping icy fingers through his brain.
He forced the hysteria away. He had to focus, or he would die.
The fight has truly begun, and already lethal techniques have been introduced into the battle. Blinded in a sea of darkness, where will Shane go? What will he do? Will the teacher succeed against the Onyx League and be able to free the hostages... or is this fight falling towards the favour of the Onyx League?
