11: Thank you
"Thank you."
"Here are the apples you ordered."
"Thank you."
"Hey here's the money I borrowed last week."
"Thank you."
"You can use this one until you find yours."
"Thank you."
"James why do you always say thank you even when you're the one giving not receiving?" Lana asked
"I-"
"Let me get this one James."
My friend, Emmanuel said as he put a hand on my shoulder. I raised an eyebrow but gave him the go ahead. "Your question should be be why not say thank you." I rolled my eyes at how confident he sounded.
"It doesn't make you look weak to say thank you, only weak people find it hard to say thank you. The woman selling stuff put effort into what she does that's why you get to buy what you want when you want. If you were hungry enough on a sunny day, and you step out to get something to eat and all shops are closed, what happens then? What if that guy decides not to pay back the money you lent him? Well, you either lose the cash or the friend so just say thank you for not losing any of them. Thank you puts a smile on faces and lessens a frown. Thank you is like a trampoline, it lifts the darkening heart up higher by propelling it into the air and letting the wind sift the dirt so it becomes less dirty, open to cleaner things. So really, why not say thank you?"
"Oh so that's why you always say thank you James?" Lana beamed.
I smiled "Of course."
"Cool see you guys later. " Lana waved at us and left.
As she left, Emmanuel turned to me. "What?" He asked probably because of the flat look I gave him.
"That was bullshit, give me a heads-up next time you want to use my thank you to impress a girl and show off. "
Emmanuel laughed and put an arm round my shoulder. "That was not just any bullshit, it was true bullshit. She digs me now. "
"Definitely" I smirked, throwing an arm around his shoulders before continuing. "Or... She actually digs me now, did you see the way she smiled at me? Besides, it was my thank you you explained not yours, so technically, I am the good guy that puts a smile on people's faces."
Emmanuel stopped in his tracks with a look of realisation. "Shit" then he ran after her. "Lana!"
