The Van Allen's vs Heart

>HEART<

"Here he is, Detective," The mortician opened the small door and pulled out the metal table containing the victim. Alayna's eyes widened slightly as she took in the multiple stitched up wounds scattered around his torso.

"That looks pretty gruesome," She commented, pointing at the bite mark on his neck more for Karoline's benefit than for the woman resting her wrists on the metal table who looked unaffected by the horrific sight before her. Her only response was to hum in agreement to Alayna's words. "Did you figure out what bit him?" She questioned, glancing at the mortician as she shook her head.

"I haven't quite determined that just yet," She answered hesitantly, biting her lip as if she was restraining herself from saying anymore than that.

"Come on, doc. Off the record," Karoline tried to coax the information out of her.

"Okay, way, way off the record," She emphasized, glancing at Karoline and Alayna for confirmation before continuing when they nodded. "If I didn't know better, I'd say the guy was attacked by a wolf," Alayna felt Karoline's eyes flick to her, and Alayna met her sister's gaze briefly, knowing what they were both thinking. "But unless I know that the zoo is missing one of their lobos, I'm going with pit bull," She continued, giving the two hunters a suspicious look before adding, "I like my job,"

"Yeah," Karoline agreed, laughing slightly. "Just one more question, though. This victim, was his heart missing by any chance?" She asked, even though she already knew the answer. There wasn't anything else this case could be leading to.

"Yeah, how did you know that?" She questioned, suddenly wary of the two of them. "I haven't even finished my report,"

"Lucky guess," Alayna covered for Karoline as they both smiled at the woman, who just shrugged. "We should get going. We have everything that we need. Thank you," The woman nodded, pushing the corpse back into the wall before closing the door. Karoline and Alayna headed back out to the Buick, and Karoline slid into the drivers seat.

"So, we should check out the place he works next, right? Get a sense of who could've been involved?" Karoline reasoned while Alayna nodded. Karoline glanced over at her to see she was looking down at the newspaper again. "Are you checking the lunar cycles?" She asked as she spotted the book Alayna was holding next to the newspaper article.

"Yeah," Alayna confirmed with an unnecessary nod. "They match up. I'm thinking werewolf,"

"Makes sense," Karoline agreed without hesitation. It was the only thing that made sense, and Karoline and Alayna had known that even before they'd visited the morgue. "Dean's going to be ecstatic,"

"Dean likes hunting werewolves?" Alayna asked in surprise, causing Karoline to glance over at her before shrugging.

"Yeah," She answered, not sure why Alayna was so shocked by the news.

"I didn't know that. Since when?" She questioned, making Karoline's look last longer this time.

"Since we were kids," She replied. "A werewolf was his first kill, remember?" Alayna's face cleared in sudden understanding. "That and they're easy. I mean, we already know how to kill them. All we have to do is find them,"

"Right, yeah," She agreed as Karoline pulled up in front of the motel room, putting the Buick in park before getting out and slamming the door shut.

"We're back," Karoline announced as Alayna unlocked the boys room to reveal Dean sitting on the chair cleaning his gun, and Sam at the table.

"Hey," Dean put down the gun, as both boys looked at them expectantly.

"The lawyer didn't have a heart," Alayna reiterated what they'd found out. "And the mortician thinks that the bite marks look like a wolf made them," She finished, shrugging off her jacket and throwing it on the table by the door before taking a seat on the bed opposite Dean.

"This lawyer guy first heart-free corpse in town?" Dean inquired, picking his gun back up as Karoline went to the fridge to grab a beer.

"First male," Karoline corrected as Alayna showed her, her empty palm, hoping she'd get the message. She did and tossed Alayna a cold Monster from the fridge. "Over the past year, several women have gone missing. Dead bodies all washed up later in the bay too deteriorated to draw any firm conclusions," Karoline took a seat beside Dean as she opened her beer, and Sam sat backwards in the chair he'd drawn up.

"But no hearts," Sam looked for confirmation.

"No. No hearts," Alayna gave it to him. "All of the women were hookers who worked around Hunter's Point. The police are trying to keep the whole investigation on the down low, but they're looking for a serial killer," She relayed the knowledge they'd gathered so far.

"And the lunar cycle?" Sam asked.

"Yeah, month after month all the murders happen in the week leading up to the full moon," Alayna informed him.

"Which is this week, hence the lawyer's death," Karoline added, tying all the pieces together.

"Awesome," Dean grinned broadly before he pushed himself off the bed and reached behind Karoline to get the silver bullets sitting there. She let out a soft laugh at his adorably excited face. "What?" He spoke the word as a protest, his eyes flicking from Karoline to Sam and Alayna and back again.

"Could you be a bigger geek about this?" Sam asked him, shaking his head slightly.

"I'm sorry, guys, but what about a human by day, a freak animal killing machine by moonlight don't you understand?" He defended himself, opening the case to reveal the silver bullets. "I mean, werewolves are badass. We haven't seen one in years."

"Alright, Sparky. You know what?" Karoline looked up at Dean in mock excitement, a hand on his arm. "After we kill the 'badass', we can go to Disney World." Karoline smirked at the look Dean gave her, but he couldn't contain the smile that pulled at his lips.

"Know what the best part about it is?" He questioned, glancing from Sam to the girls. "We already know how to bring these suckers down," He held up the silver bullet. "One of these bad boys right to the heart," Alayna let out a small laugh, glancing at Karoline. "What's our next move?"

"Well, we should go talk to the girl who found the body," Alayna reasoned logically, as Karoline began loading her own gun with the silver bullets Dean had pulled out of his bag. It took them a total of thirty minutes to get into their FBI 'outfits' and head down to Madison's apartment -the last person to see Nate alive beside his killer.

"I don't understand," Madison shook her head, her eyebrows drawing together in suspicious confusion. "I already gave my statement to you," She added as she led the four hunters through her surprisingly big apartment.

"Yeah, well, we just need to clarify a few things," Sam made up an excuse for them needing to know her side of the story. The five stopped as they came to her living room.

"And why are their four of you?" She question suspiciously.

"Team building," Karoline came up with on the spot. "Our department's really big on teamwork and these two aren't very big on that." She gestured to Alayna and Dean who both shot her a look. With one last suspicious look Madison seemed to accept the answer and led them to the other room.

"This is my neighbor Glenn," She gestured to the man who sat on the couch in front of the TV. Alayna sized him up as he stood to greet them. He was a ragged looking man, as if he hadn't seen a razor in a month, and he wore a faded yellow t-shirt with kaki shorts. All in all, he didn't look to be much of a threat, but something inside of her was weary of him nonetheless. "Glenn, this is detective..."

"Smith," Alayna supplied as she saw the apologetically confused look on her face. "That's Dante, Davis, and Collins," Alayna added, gesturing to the boys and Karoline respectively.

"Well, guess I'll leave you to it," He excused himself, beginning to walk towards Madison cautiously. Karoline zeroed in on the soft look in his eyes and the hesitant, shy way he spoke to her. He was in love with her. Classic.

"Okay, thanks for the casserole," Madison thanked him as he passed and nodded to her.

"Oh, how thoughtful," Dean commented with an undertone of humor that made Karoline nudge him warningly. He had realized just like she had; the man wasn't exactly the best at concealing his crush.

"Just call if you need anything," He sent one last longing look at her before disappearing out the door, and Madison turned to them, folding her arms over her chest.

"He's sweet. He came over to check on me," She explained as she glanced back at where he left before turning to the chairs next to them. "Have - have a seat," They obliged, taking a seat across from Madison.

"This must be pretty hard on you," Alayna began sympathetically, knowing firsthand how hard the death of someone you know could be. Madison just nodded, sending her a small smile before looking down at her clasped hands. "You worked as his assistant, right?" She checked the information they already knew, and she nodded confirmation.

"For two years, yeah," She fixed the brunette with a tired, wide-eyed look before turning her dark gaze to Sam.

"So you knew all about him," Karoline reasoned, and Madison spared her a short glance before turning her eyes to Sam once more.

"Probably knew more about him than he did. Nate was... he was nice," She spoke choppily, a small smile forming on her lips as her eyes dropped to her hands again.

"But..." Sam prompted, hearing the hesitance in her voice.

"Nothing, really," She tried only to see they weren't buying it. "You get a few scotches in him, and he started hitting on anyone in a five mile radius. You know the type," She explained, her eyes flicking between the girls as she spoke.

"Oh, yeah," Karoline agreed with a strained smile as she felt Dean's eyes on her.

"Did, uh, did he have any enemies?" Dean broke the slightly awkward silence that had begun since the blonde's agreement.

"What do you mean? Sure looked like an animal attack," Her eyes danced back to Sam briefly as she frowned in confusion, and Alayna's eyes narrowed as they flicked between her and Sam.

"Of course, we're just covering all the bases," Sam broke in, reassuring her. "Anyone who might have wanted to hurt him - former client, an ex," Sam listed, stopping suddenly when he saw the look that crossed her face. "What?" He prompted her.

"Well, this is embarrassing, but my ex-boyfriend, Kurt," She began, a slight note of anger entering her voice.

"Kurt what?" Karoline broke in, needing to know his last name, so they could track him down later.

"Mueller," She gave Karoline his last name with an irritated scowl that the blonde knew wasn't meant for her. "After we broke up, he went kind of nuts," She confessed, glancing down at her hands again. "He's... well, he's kind of been stalking me. He got it in his head that something was going on between Nate and I. He showed up at my office,"

"And what happened?" Sam questioned her, looking intrigued. Alayna's eyes flicked back and forth between Sam and Madison again, a small frown pulling on her lips.

"Kurt got into it with Nate. Threw a punch before security grabbed him. I was lucky to keep my job," She shook her head, looking mildly angry and slightly relieved at once while she recounted the events.

"When was the last time you saw him?" Alayna asked Madison, biting her lip as she went over what she'd said. Although it seemed like Kurt was the wolf, something told her things weren't that simple. Why would he confront Nate at his office if he was just going to kill him later?

"A few nights ago," Her answer snapped Alayna back into the present. "Actually, the night Nate died. We were all grabbing drinks at this bar, and Kurt showed up," That caught their attention. Maybe he was their werewolf after all.

"And?" Dean gestured for her to continue.

"Nothing," She replied, shrugging as if it were no big deal. "It was... like he was watching me. Then he was gone. Tell you the truth..." She fixed her eyes on Sam as she spoke her next words carefully. "He scares me,"

"All right, well, thank you for doing this," Alayna placed her palms on the table, sliding her chair back as she stood up. "We'd better be going," She smiled curtly before the four of them walked out of the apartment.

"So, what do you think?" Dean questioned Sam and the girls as they descended the steps.

"Well, he's definitely worth checking out," Karoline summed up what they'd learned.

"'Worth checking out'?" Sam repeated incredulously, shoving his hands into his jean pockets. "He was there that night, he hated the boss, and he's a stalker. The case practically solves itself," Alayna frowned at his eagerness to condemn Kurt.

"So, you think he's our dog-faced boy?" Dean glanced at Sam as they made their way across the lawn towards the cars.

"It's a theory," Sam seemed to realize he was being overzealous, for he backed off a bit with a shrug.

"It makes sense," Alayna added, going around the Buick to the driver's door. "Mind if I drive for a while?" She glanced at Karoline, who looked genuinely surprised.

"Sure," She hesitantly tossed her the keys.

"What do you say we pay Kurt a visit?" Dean asked rhetorically before they each got into their cars. Alayna pulled the Buick up behind the Impala in front of the apartment building where Madison's ex-boyfriend apparently lived. They walked to the room in silence, and Karoline knelt in front of the door, silently working on picking the lock. Getting into the supposed Werewolf's room wasn't exactly the hard part, it was finding evidence that he was their werewolf and he had killed Nate that was hard. The door swung open without so much as a creak, and she nodded to her sister and the boys to pass before heading in herself. Alayna scanned the kitchen, opening up cabinets and drawers, but found nothing out of the ordinary.

"Anything?" Sam asked after a moment of silence.

"Nothing," Alayna shook her head, closing the cabinet she'd been looking through.

"All I found is left-overs and a six-pack," Dean announced dejectedly, shutting the fridge and turning to the others.

"What about the freezer?" Alayna asked, having gone through enough werewolf hunts to know what to look for.

"Yeah, because the basic necessities you need in your freezer is beer, Ben & Jerry's, and you know, human hearts."  Karoline added, only half joking as she turned to Dean. He glanced at her a moment before he shrugged and turned back to check the freezer, that's when there was the sound of metal on metal followed by a clatter. They all stiffened, and Dean began heading towards the noise cautiously with Karoline following. He opened the sliding door to the balcony and Karoline walked through, something on the adjacent wall caught her eye. Claw marks. Huge ones.

"Guys, come here!" Dean called to his brother and Alayna as Karoline leaned over the edge of the balcony wall to get a better view of the claw marks that went all the way down the wall and to the ground.

"Looks like Kurt is our guy," Karoline mused, straightening as she followed the boys and Alayna back inside. Suddenly, the sound of a loud gunshot rang throughout the air and they all froze, sharing a wide eyed look.

"Dammit," Alayna swore as the four of them raced out of the apartment and broke out into a full-on sprint for the stairs. They exited the building and went around the corner, slowing as they neared a trashcan with feet sticking out from behind it. They rounded the trashcan to see a body lying on the ground, drenched in it's own blood, and it's abdomen shredded.

"I'll call 911," Sam turned to look back down the alley and see if anyone else was coming.

"Kurt is definitely our guy," Alayna muttered, her eyes fixed on the body with pity as Dean knelt beside it.

"Guys, if he's out here, we better check on Madison," Sam pointed out, causing Alayna's eyes to flick to him as a small frown ghosted over her lips. She suppressed the scowl as her eyes returned to the body. Dean nodded, standing from his crouch and the four all went back to their cars and pulled out to head towards Madison's. The drive was shorter when Dean and Karoline were behind the wheel, but they, of course, went eight-five in a fifty-five mile zone. They pulled in front of the apartment building. They walked up the stairs to Madison's room quickly and knocked on the door.

"What's going on?" Alayna spun to see Glenn had come out of his room across the hall to regard the four with suspicion.

"Official business," She responded without thinking. The response had become almost second nature to her by now.

"What is it?" They turned back to see that Madison had opened up her door and now stood in front of them in her pajamas. Sam opened his mouth to speak before glancing back at Glenn, who still stood in his doorway.

"Well, maybe we should talk privately?" He suggested, causing Madison to move out of the way and wave the four of them through the door. They walked into her living room before turning to speak with her. "Has Kurt been here?" Sam questioned, getting to the point quickly.

"Not exactly," She replied, handing Sam, Dean, and the girls each a coffee cup before getting the pot and beginning to pour.

"What exactly does 'not exactly' mean?" Dean questioned as Madison poured their coffee.

"Well, he was outside last night - just looking. Just looking at me," She explained, frowning as she remembered her ex. "Has he done something?"

"We aren't really sure. We think he might have," Karoline answered her question as honestly as she could. "It's probably nothing, but... we just don't wanna take any chances. In fact, one of us should probably stay here with you? Just in case he stops by."

"Where does he work?" Dean questioned.

"He owns a body shop," Madison informed them.

"You mind grabbing that address for us?" He requested, and she nodded, moving around the four to the opposite counter as Dean thanked her.

"All right, you go. I'll stay." Sam decided once Madison was out of ear shot.

"Forget that," Dean denied instantly. "You go after the creepy ex. Besides, I don't think Alayna would like it very much if you were alone with a hot chick." Alayna immeadiatly ducked her head as she felt both boys look at her.

"You think she's hot?" Karoline questioned, trying to seem casual as she sipped on her coffee.

"Oh, she's nothing compared to you Kare-bear." He teased, flinging an arm over her shoulder that she immeadiatly shoved away as she rolled her eyes playfully.

"No, screw that. We settle this the old-fashioned way." Sam spoke up, bringing the attention back to their current debate, taking the coffee cup from Dean and setting it on the table beside his. He turned back to his brother, raising his hand onto his palm and Dean shot Karoline an incredulous look, who merely shrugged. He let out a sigh, deciding to play along and mimicked Sam's gesture.

"Rock. Paper. Scissors..." Karoline bit back a laugh as Sam chose rock and Dean chose scissors.

"Dean, always with the scissors." Sam said in mock concern as he patted his brother on the shoulder.

"Shut up, shut up. Two out of three." Sam sighed in defeat and raised his hands once again. And again Sam chose rock and Dean chose scissors. "God!"

"Scissors, again?" Karoline asked in disbelief. "Please, tell me you didn't actually think that was gonna work."

"Bundle up out there, all right?" Sam mocked and Dean rolled his eyes.

"I think I'll stay here with him." Alayna spoke up finally raising her head to look at her sister and Dean.

"Told you she wouldn't like it," Dean shook his head at his brother like Alayna wasn't standing right there.

"That's not it," Alayna denied instantly, crossing her arms as her cheeks grew pink. "Just, he'll need back up if Kurt does show up."

"Right." Karoline rolled her eyes in disbelief.

"Shut up and go get the number," both Dean and Karoline laughed as they headed towards the door Madison had walked through.

"Hey," Dean turned back to Sam and Alayna, lowering his voice and pointing at the two. "Not on Madison's bed," Sam's face grew pink and Alayna's was as red as a tomato as Karoline tried desperately to stop herself from laughing loudly enough to get Madison's attention.

"Dean!" They hissed, looking mortified.

"Come on," Karoline pulled Dean by his jacket out of the room, still laughing. They got the address from Madison before they left the apartment building. About an hour later the two came back to where Dean had the Impala parked -having left the Buick in case Sam and Alayna needed it- waiting for Kurt to show up. Karoline flipped out her phone, dialing 2 and put the phone of speaker.

"Let me guess. You're pouting in the corner while Sam and Madison make googly eyes at each other," Her comment made Dean crack up as he leaned against the Impala next to her.

"No," She instantly denied. "I'm pouting in the corner while Sam sits awkwardly on the couch cause Madison's folding her Karoline underwear right in front of him."

"Karoline underwear?" Dean echoed, shooting Karoline a look, to which she shrugged.

"You know, lacy, prostitute underwear." Dean smirked at her quip and Karoline's jaw dropped in offense.

"It's not prostitute underwear!"

"Did you find Kurt?" Alayna changed the subject back to the matter at hand.

"No, apparently he hasn't been in all week, but because we are such damn good hunters-" Karoline began only to break off as Dean stole the phone from her, now in the driver's seat of the Impala.

"And she means really, really damn good hunters, we have a lead on where he might be," He finished for her as she laughed. "So, when are you gonna tell Sammy you're in love with him."

"When you tell Karoline." She snapped back, and Dean immeadiatly grew stiff in his seat.

He covered it quickly with an awkward chuckle, "hilarious, bye." He hung up quickly, finally turning to see Karoline's curious look as he handed her back her phone. "Such a joker that one, heh." He let out another awkward chuckle, covering it with a cough as he gunned the engine.

Alayna looked down at her phone when the line went dead and shrugged before tucking it away as she looked up to where Sam sat awkwardly on the girl's couch. Her gaze then shifted over to where Madison was standing, having just finished folding her underwear on the table. She rolled her eyes as Madison moved over to sit next to Sam and flicked on the TV, getting comfortable with the pillows next to her. Alayna's eyes flicked to Madison in surprise as she realized what the program was, one she watched whenever she had spare time. Alayna turned her attention back down to her hands, refusing to believe she had anything in common with the girl sitting next to Sam. "I saw that." She glanced up to see Sam and Madison both looking at her.

"What?" She asked innocently.

"Okay, this is the deal - my house, my TV," She laid out the rules for her blatantly. "I never get to watch my show, so suck it up and come watch it with me or..." She let the sentence hang in the air and after a moments pause she got up and went over to them purposely taking the open space between Sam and Madison. An hour later, Alayna was on the edge of her seat with her elbows resting on her knees as the credits played, and she tried to process what she'd just seen.

"I cannot believe Kendall went through all that trouble to marry Ethan's father just to get back at him," Alayna leant back in her seat glancing at Madison who was grinning from where she sat in the corner of the couch. "He totally deserved it, but... what a bitch." She finally said out loud, not knowing how else to describe the character. She turned when she heard Sam chuckle and saw him smiling down at his hands. "What?"

"Nothing," he shook his head, flicking his eyes up to her. "You're cute when you're excited." She immeadiatly ducked her head, feeling the blush creep up on her cheeks. Sam let out a slight cough when he caught Madison grinning at the two of them. "Do you have a bathroom I can use?"

"Yeah, up the stairs, first door on the left." She told him and he nodded, getting up and leaving.

"Can I ask you a question?" Alayna asked once Sam was out of her sight. "A personal question."

"You've seen my entire underwear collection," She reminded her, turning more to face her as well. "Go ahead,"

"Okay, um... well, why were you with Kurt," She questioned, shaking her head confused. "I mean you seem smart... and Kurt seems..."

"Like the 'not-smart' choice." She filled in and Alayna nodded. "I don't know. I mean, it's not like he introduced himself, like, 'hi, I'm possessive and controlling, and I like to punch people. Want to be my girlfriend?'"

"Yeah, well, I guess we all make mistakes," Alayna nodded, pulling a pillow into her lap.

"Yeah, well, mine's wanted by the police," She commented, making Alayna laugh, despite herself. "You want to know why I stayed with him? Really?" She guessed correctly, and Alayna nodded for her to continue. "I was too insecure to leave,"

"Really? You? Insecure?" Alayna asked in disbelief. "You just dumped out your whole 'underwear collection' out on the table in front of two strangers." She used Madison's words from earlier against her and Madison chuckled, her eyes flicking away from the shorter girl for a moment.

"Yeah, well some stuff happened. My life changed, I changed, for the better, I think," Madison shrugged as if it were no big deal.

"What happened?" Alayna asked, interested now.

"Well, for one thing, I got mugged," Alayna's eyes widened slightly.

"And that's supposed to be a good thing?" She questioned incredulously with a small chuckle.

"I know, it sounds strange, and don't get me wrong - it rattled me - but then it hit me. I could keep feeling sorry for myself or I could take control of my life. I chose the latter," Alayna nodded along, not being able to stop the amount of respect she had for Madison. "First thing I did was tell Kurt he had to go."

"Smart move," Alayna approved of her decision.

"Apparently," She agreed. "Everything else just opened up, blossomed. It's all been wonderful, really," She caught Alayna's expression and frowned. "What? Doesn't everybody think that being a victim of random violence is the best thing that ever happened to them?"

"Not really," Alayna shook her head, her gaze flicking to the stairs as Sam came back down them. "But, it's impressive. Being able to make such a good change from something so bad." Before Madison could respond Sam's phone rang and they both turned to him.

"Uh, sorry," Sam apologized shooting Alayna a look and flashing the screen that read 'KAROLINE' in big letters.

"Excuse me," Alayna dismissed herself following Sam into another part of the room. He answered the phone and put it on speaker, immeadiatly regretting it as the loud music came through. He peeked over his shoulder to see if Madison heard as he lowered the volume slightly.

"Hey," Sam greeted.

"We found him," Karoline sounded vaguely pissed off, and they could barely hear her with all the music in the background.

"Good. Don't take your eyes off of him," She was silent for a moment. "Kari, where are you?"

"Strip joint," Was her curt response. "Stalker, ex-boyfriend Kurt likes to spend his free time staring at woman dance around half naked." Alayna looked up at Sam laughing slightly.

"Where's Dean?" Sam asked and Karoline was silent for a moment.

"We're in a strip club Sam-onela, where do you think?" She quipped sarcastically and Sam sighed.

"Front row?" He guessed, knowing all too well.

"Bingo." You could almost hear the eye roll in her voice. "I have to go. Remember Alayna, jealousy causes wrinkles." Alayna rolled her eyes, taking the phone from Sam and hanging up before handing it back to him.

Karoline glanced down at the phone with a smirk before tucking it into her jacket and weaving her way through the crowd to where Dean was handing one of the strippers some money with a smirk. She rolled her eyes, catching his arm to get him to look back at her. "He's leaving," she jerked her chin at where Kurt was getting up from his table. With reluctance Dean left with Karoline and followed Kurt out of the joint and all the way back to his apartment, but they didn't go inside, choosing, instead, to wait outside his window for him to try to run off.

"Ready?" Dean checked as he tapped the ammo against the side of the gun before loading his weapon.

"Yeah," She answered, pulling out her gun from the holster around her ankle. Suddenly, there was a blur and a loud crash, which caused her eyes to snap to the now broken window.

"What the...?" Dean muttered, but Karoline was already running past him and into the building.

"Hurry up!" Karoline called to him as she took the stairs two at a time. Dean kicked in the door and Karoline held her gun at the ready as they walked through the rooms quickly. When they got to the living room, Kurt was lying on the ground, his shredded shirt coated in a layer of red while a figure crouched over him, feasting. "Hey!" Karoline held up the gun, ready to shoot, but when the figure turned, she realized who it was. "Madison?" The blonde whispered in shock. She used Karoline's momentary distraction to grab the blonde's wrists and throw her into the wall before slamming her body against Dean's, sending him to the ground as well. She lunged at Dean, who was slumped against the wall to Karoline's left, and, without thinking, she sliced a small, silver dagger across Madison's shoulder, causing her to scream with pain. She backed away before turning and leaping out the broken window. Karoline turned her attention to Dean, her eyes widening when she saw he wasn't conscious. "Dean?" She scrambled to her feet and over to him quickly, cradling his face in her hands. "Dean!" Her eyes widened when he didn't wake up and she moved her hand to his neck and let out a slight laugh of relief when she felt his strong pulse. She slumped into a sitting position in front of the unconscious man and called Alayna.

"Kari?" Alayna picked up on the first ring. "Where the hell have you been? Are you okay? Was it him?"

"Oh, you know taking a nap," Her voice turned slightly bitter as she shook Dean's shoulder slightly, trying to get him to wake up. "Dean's still unconscious. The son of a bitch attacked us."

"Is he okay?" Alayna questioned, concern lining her voice.

"From what I can tell, yeah," She answered, making a huge effort to keep the fear and worry in her voice hidden. "Alayna, it's Madison. She's the werewolf," Karoline bit her lip as Alayna went silent. "Is she with you and Sam?"

"What?" Her voice held incredulity and disbelief.

"Yeah," She replied unnecessarily, most of her attention still focused on the unconscious Dean in front of her. "Is she with you?" She repeated more forcefully.

"Yeah, Sam and I have been here the whole time. She's asleep. I think we would've noticed her leave."

"Yeah, well, you missed something. Look, check her shoulder I managed to get her with a silver knife," Karoline told her sister. "Tie her up and wait for us to get there," She snapped the phone shut, knowing Alayna would see the cut and know it was all true. She went to the kitchen, taking a glass and filling it with cold water before returning to the unconscious Dean. "I'm really going to enjoy this," Karoline whispered before splashing the water on his face. He gasped awake, spluttering and groaning while Karoline knelt by his side again, weak with relief.

"Madison," He remembered, his eyes wide.

"She's gone," She reassured him, taking deep breaths to calm herself.

"Sam, 'Layna-" He began, worry in his voice.

"I called Alayna. They know," Karoline helped Dean to his feet, making sure he was steady before releasing his arm.

"Uh, Kare," Karoline turned her head to follow his line of sight to the body that was lying on the floor.

"Oh," She muttered. "Right. We should get out of here,"

"Yeah," Dean agreed readily, and they made their way back to the car.
