Not so Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman
As Isabella was trailing Peter one day, it was nothing different. At the end of his route he was sitting on top of a building talking to himself or talking to someone on the phone, like always. She was at the next building over, sitting on the patio in front of the Starbucks she was now a regular to.
After the sun had gone down and she was about to go home, there was a scuffle of footsteps coming her way. She looked around and saw a group of guys carrying some bags heading into the small ATM station on the corner.
Isabella ran into the building Peter was sitting on and unzipped her bag that she carried her catsuit in. Finally she would be able to use it. Her catsuit kind of looked like Natasha's but she had a mask. For some buried down reason of Isabella's, she didn't want anyone to see her face. Her mask resembled Tony's helmet only it wasn't a helmet. It covered the area around her eyes and was a little bit bigger than the Incredibles mask. (I couldn't think of another comparison...) The edges weren't rounded, they were straight and no matter what she was doing, the mask never came off.
The assassin changed and put her hair into a high ponytail as quickly as she could and when she ran back out again, Peter was just getting started. Cursing under her breath she ran over to help him.
Spiderman was busy fighting the robbers who had masks of the Avengers on to notice her come in. When she saw the masks she started to laugh, drawing everyones attention towards her.
"Well you guys aren't my friends. Why in the world would you think masks of the Avengers would be a good idea?" Isabella laughed as she walked over to the one with the Iron Man mask. "I know Iron Man, and you are not him." She said and punched him across the face, knocking him out in one punch.
"Who are you?" Spiderman asked but Isabella was too busy fighting with the one who was wearing Thor's mask. Peter quickly forgot the question as the hulk was focusing on him.
Everything was going fine until Peter got trapped in one of the weapons. He got out of it fine but the other weapon that they had went haywire when Peter covered it with a web and cut the ATM's glass and shot right into the small deli Peter goes to everyday.
Realizing what happened Peter goes running to the Deli leaving Isabella to round up the robbers but when she turned around they were gone. She cursed under her breath but ran over to the deli Peter was in.
When she got there Peter was helping a coughing Mr. Delmar and his cat from the fire. Peter looked at her once before grabbing her and shooting a web to the tallest building. Isabella screamed a little but once they were on the roof she pushed Peter back and hit him in the chest, knocking the wind out of him.
"What the hell was that!? I was helping you!" She screamed at him. "You may do that to all the girls you don't know but not me!" She added and when Peter caught his breath he responded.
"You said you know the Avengers and Tony Stark. If you know them, why weren't you at the airport when they were all fighting each other?" Peter asked, not knowing he had poked a bear he did not want to wake up.
"Because Tony Stark will let one minor onto his team and not one who has been training with them for three years and he's an asshat!" Isabella snapped back and Peter held up his hands.
"Okay, you're under 18. Then how old are you?" Peter asked and Isabella shook her head, she wondered how he didn't recognize her voice.
"I have better things to do than stand on a roof answering some questions from some kid I don't even know. And yes, I know you're still in high school." Isabella said before walking over to the fire escape and climbing down leaving Peter to stand there for a few minutes before swinging home himself.
Isabella sighed as she changed back to her street clothes and walked back to the tower, Peter still on her mind.
The next day in school the explosion at the deli was all everyone would talk about. Peter and Isabella were the only ones who weren't talking about it. At lunch Ned wouldn't stop talking about it, and Isabella's frustration was evident whenever she opened her mouth. Finally she had enough of talking about the explosion, or just the day before in general, and that included the tutoring Peter and he had started the day before and were continuing that day.
"Ned, I know you're excited and everything but please just shut up about the deli!" Isabella snapped making the group fall silent and Michelle to shut her book.
Ned looked at her and nodded a little bit but Peter just looked at her. "That wasn't really nice Bella. Why shouldn't he talk about the deli? It just happened and it was big news." Peter said, curious as to why she didn't want Ned to talk about it. Isabella just gave him a look .
"We all say things that aren't nice." Isabella shot back making Peter get up, walk around to her side of the table, and drag her out of the cafeteria.
"Okay what is going on with you today?" Peter demanded when they had made it to a quiet hallway.
"Excuse me? What's going on with me? What's going on with you and why do you keep rubbing your chest?" Isabella questioned as Peter rubbed the bruise he had gotten last night from her, only he didn't know it was from her.
"I asked you first." Peter said crossing his arms. He didn't realize he had kept rubbing the bruise the girl on the roof gave him. Her identity still bothered her, the voice sounded familiar but nothing else looked familiar. She was confident, sassy, a smooth fighter, and had one hell of a punch.
Isabella rolled her eyes and rubbed her upper arms as she just looked at him. "Nothing is going on with me today. I'm just tired." Isabella snapped and Peter gave her a look.
"That is the most overused excuse in the book. What's really going on Bella?" Peter asked, real concern laced in his voice.
Isabella stopped rubbing her arms for a second and looked at him. She wanted to tell him what she was doing and why she was in his life, but she couldn't. There was so much she wanted to tell him, but the secrets had to remain secrets.
"Just stressed, my Dad's job is making him stressed and when I get home it's a big bowl of stress and unpleasantness. It's fine, it's family." Isabella mumbled, making up the lie as she went on.
Peter glanced down at her hands, still rubbing her burns, and pulled her close to hug her gently. He just felt as though she needed a hug. Isabella kind of froze, not knowing what to do. That was not something she was expecting to happen and when it did, she almost punched him in the chest again, but something made her stop. She wrapped her arms around his torso and just stayed there. The hug was comforting and actually made Isabella relax.
Isabella hadn't had a lot of hugs in her life and when she did get hugged it was from one of her dads, Steve or Tony, or it was from the other junior avenger that she had been training with and had to say goodbye to.
When Peter pulled away from the hug, his hands remained on her shoulders. "We can do tutoring at my apartment tonight and you can stay for dinner if you would like, so you don't have to be in the bowl of stress that long." Peter suggested making Isabella smile a little.
She knew she lied to him, but it was her job. She nodded a little and Peter nodded back at her.
"Okay, give me an hour after school and then I can come pick you up from your house?" Peter asked and Isabella almost nodded but then shook her head.
"Just give me your address and I'm sure I'll be able to find it. I hang out at Starbucks while doing homework after school anyway." Isabella suggested and Peter shrugged before typing his address in her phone.
They went back into the cafeteria and the rest of the day went smoothly, luckily Flash seemed genuinely threatened by her and stayed away for the day but she was sure he would be back.
After school she met Tony at Starbucks to give him the daily report. Tony was happy they were growing closer and left Isabella with a hug and a good luck.
Isabella found Peter's apartment fairly easily, but for some reason she was nervous to knock. Closing her eyes she lifting her fist and knocked three times.
When she opened her eyes, Peter opened the door with a smile. "Hey Bella, I was just about to text you. Come on in." He said opening the door a little more and standing out of the way so she could walk in.
Isabella smiled before taking a deep breath and walking into Peter's home.
