Soooo hey guys. For the giveaway winners waiting on graphics. I am working very slowly so have patience. I'll try to get them done as soon as possible. Anyway... We all have this problem, right? We can't make a cover for our own stories (suuuure we can get other people's stories on point, but gods forbid we can make our own covers).

I have no idea how to make my Project iDragon cover (more updates coming as soon as April is over). But this is a completely 180 revamp of the story that got me into writing. I wouldn't be a writer without the story this was based of. I don't know how to stress this, but it's something that is really really important to me. I started out in seventh grade with a ruddy notebook, some colorful pens, and a plot loosely based on this story.

I've changed almost everything in this rewrite yet, it's still the same. Old characters mixed with new ones.

And dragons. Where would I be in this world without them.

I fell out of modern dragons for a while to dabble in others things like fantasy, fanfiction, graphics, mystery/thriller, marching band, even teen fiction and dystopia -- but I think it's time to return to my roots.

And of course my roots doesn't know how to express itself well enough to make it's own cover --but it's difficult to stay on top of prizes (cough giveaway cough) so I was reluctant to post a contest (that and the fact that last time I posted a contest I think I got all of six entries...one of them was by sugarcrystals tho which was cray because wow...

Anyway I'm going to try this again because I'm really passionate about this story and I want it to have a great cover.

genre: Modern Science Fantasy

mood: science fictiony but not dystopia. Urgent but not tragic. Fast paced but not murderous.

colors: I'm really not too picky about this, but I would prefer brighter colors than something heavily PSDed. I like my covers to pop.

general plot: The dragons have returned. In every place, in every civilization in time dragons roamed the planet, scarring the minds of men and striking fear into the minds of history. But how then, could they so have mysteriously disappeared?

These are the main types of questions the main character, David Turner, asks himself as he embarks on a life he would never have imagined before it happened to him. He just a normal senior in marching until the night his life was saved by the mango-loving fire-breathing bundle of brass and sass who would come to be known as Selphon the dragon.

There is so much David doesn't know, but where is a guy supposed to turn?

But before he even has a chance to get used to the idea of one dragon, more start appearing around the city -- but just as abruptly as they're appearing, they're disappearing as well and David starts suspecting that someone is hunting the dragons.

And that he and Selphon are the next target.

important concepts and main characters:

Dragons - this one should be a no brainer since dragons play such a huge role in the story. Selphon the dragon protagonist, is a black dragon on the smaller side of the scale (still a child). He is about the side of a large sheepdog. The antagonist's dragon is bigger and actually has brighter patterns on the under of the wings.

David: Main character/narrator: Kinda a dorky kid with a medium build and the kind of tan you get from marching band. High school senior with brown hair (with a tad or curl) and dark plastic framed glasses (the glasses aren't necessary to portray tho because I know how hard it is to find stocks of them). If anyone is going on the cover it should be him above all.

Madi: Long blonde haired, blued eyed tomboy who works as the techie for the marching band's pit sound system. High school senior. David's first and best friend.

Saida (Sadie): Hijabi. Muslim American computer expert for David's side of the story. Graphic and web design student who doesn't like to talk a lot, but when she does. Watch out. Will decode the method of dragon hunting for the side of the dragons. High school senior.

Tern: High tech Dragon hunter: appearance unassigned.

Technology and Magic: This is a high tech dragon adventure so it combines the best of modern scifi and dragons, but there is also magic at work. A deep rooted magic, so bright lights would not be out of place.

ideas (I'll try to give you a lot to work with):

- I was thinking scifi font -- but use your own judgement

- A boy in his late teens standing in front of an AU universe city with a dragon flying the sky above him
-maybe against the sun

- a vortex of light taking up the middle of the page while the dark shadow of a man and dragon loom overhead and a David likeliness standing before the light

-two dragons, one of them black, facing off against each other.

-glowing tech brush and magicy lights

-a dragon insignia inside of/or creating a circle (good for object based)

-a dragon wearing a modified bluetooth headset with a modified virtual reality visor that covers only one eye (yeah this is going to be one hell of a story and yes I'm aware no one is going to do this one)

- dragony anything -- and this dragon is particularly attached to the water. So maybe for that insignia idea, above the emblem could be circled with water.

- someone sitting on the roof a house (can be a silhouette) while looking up at the moon with a dragon in the sky or even kinda blocking out the light of the moon.

-water used somehow

-dragon wings

- a city coming into darkness with inhumane eyes staring from above

- for a text based cover maybe incorporate water and light and some techy stuff

- a young boy (not main character) lying unconscious at the top of the cover fading into a city skyline

- wings or dragon parts wrapping the text. Maybe an eye for the O

- Honestly any combination of this stuff or anything you think you're inspired to make will be amazing. I know it.
