Chapter Six.

P.O.V of Wally.

The sun was just staring to rise and still none of us had even come close to finding Richard. The kid could die for all I cared about him, but if he did it would be my head rolling on the ground because of Bruce Wayne. And I think I preferred having my head firmly attached to my body.
"What are we gonna do now?" Artemis asked as I flopped down on the sofa with the rest of the team, snacking on a bar of chocolate.
"We need to keep searching Gotham." Aqualad said, "If we can't find him here then we look through the neighbouring cities."
"And if we can't find him there?" I asked.
"We will." Aqualad replied, "We'll put up missing posters, advertise it on the news. Whatever it takes."
"What if Wayne sees the news that his son is missing?" Megan asked, "Won't he come back and like, be far too angry for us to deal with?"
"She has a point." Conner cut in before Kaldur could speak, "But wouldn't you rather get your 'boyfriend' back."
"Conner, he's not my boyfriend." Megan bit back, "Am I not allowed to think he's cute?"
"Oh, because that's all you think." He sneered.
"Save the argument for later." Artemis ordered, "What we need to focus on today is our 'work' and the other boys. We'll keep an eye out for Richard once we get back. We can't blow our cover."
"And someone at the school may know something." I finished her sentence and she shot me a look, "What?"
She just shook her head and Kaldur dismissed us to continue with our day as it would be normal. Hopefully the boys wouldn't be too affected.

That hope was dearly misplaced, we arrived at the school gates and Tim and Jason were a mess. Tim much more than Jason, but if you knew him slightly better you could tell. Thankfully Damian had been relatively normal, minus the fact he didn't eat at all and just disappeared from the house with no-one to bear witness to where or when he went, but Jason said he did it all the time. So we went with it. All throughout my first two lessons I was distracted with the case, which the class took advantage of but I didn't care. I needed to find this kid. If I did then maybe I could impress Artemis.

P.O.V of Tim.

The day went far too slow; somehow it was only third period. P.E with Artemis. I got changed slowly and headed into the sports hall with the rest of the class, 10 minutes late.
"Where have you been?" She asked instantly, the rest of the class turning to watch me get my first ever telling off.
"The changing room." I replied, my voice dead.
"Well then, I guess you can sit out for 10 minutes as punishment." She said.
"What! That's not fair." One of the boys moaned from the front of the class, "Punishment should be five laps at a running pace, no stopping."
"I'm the teacher and I shall decide the punishment." Artemis turned to face him.
"In your dreams." He scoffed and the class all agreed with him, and started chanting "Five laps. Five laps. Five laps."
Artemis tried to reign them back in but I was at my snapping point. Before I even registered what I was doing the leader somehow had a broken nose. He screamed out in pain and the rest of the class shut up.
"Timothy." Artemis burst out, sounding angry but I didn't care.
In fact, I cared so little that I just walked out of the hall. I had just made it around the corner when I broke down into tears. Dick would have given me a stern telling off for pulling a stunt like that, he would have taken away my gadgets for a day for it. Much more of a teaching method than Bruce gave of 'Just don't do it again.' and walking off. I heard footsteps but didn't get up from the floor or turn around.
"Tim." I turned around when I heard Kaldur's voice, "What is the matter my friend?"
"What's the matter?" I screamed, "My brother is being tortured to become an assassin for the Court of Owls and you ask me what's the matter!"
"Tim, please, calm down." He tried.
"Calm down." I chuckled, "You wouldn't be telling me to calm down if you really knew him. If you knew what he did for you and for us."
"Tim." He crouched down next to me, "I cannot help you if you are not willing to help yourself. Now please, head back to your lesson and try to get through the rest of the day. We will not stop searching for him."
I knew he was lying to my face, but it helped me to feel better. I nodded, stood up and dried my eyes. I only had to get through the rest of the school day and then I could help them. Just another three hours to go.

P.O.V of Dick.

I didn't get any sleep last night, which explained why I was so helplessly lost this afternoon. I had gone a week now without proper rest, I mean. I was knocked out for all night, two nights ago but that didn't help with sleeplessness, unfortunately. I pulled over again for the hundredth time and looked around me. There were no signs, trees loomed up on either side of me and there was a man watching me from in there. Wait, what? I looked back over to where I saw them but there was nothing there, not even the rustle of leaves to show movement, sleep hallucinations must be starting to kick in. Pretty soon I would actually be asleep, and in a deep enough sleep to let myself be kidnapped. And no-one would know where I was.
No, can't afford to think like that. I took my helmet off and savoured the feel of the cold wind on my face, it had stopped raining around midday thankfully, so I was only soaked to the inner core. But I couldn't feel that much anymore, I had gotten used to it. I put my helmet back on and continued down the road, I needed to find a station soon. I was running low on fuel. But what was I meant to pay for it with, Jason's hoodie? This situation couldn't get any worse, could it? That's a lie, it could. I had to be thankful I was still a free boy and not been kidnapped by some evil co-operation who wanted me to kill for them. It was another five minutes before I came across a junction, with signs! I stopped at the empty road and focused on them, Gotham was to my right and Metropolis to my left. So I was currently in unclaimed road. I turned off to the right and hit the fuel as fast as it would go, I needed to get as far as I could before my bike finally decided to give up on me. I shouldn't have thought that. And as if on cue it started to sputter and came to a stop. This experience was just getting better and better, not to mention that my stomach was making enough noise to wake the squirrels that were hiding in the woods. I got off my bike, removed my helmet and started walking it down the road. The sign said Gotham was 80 miles. I was going at 120MPH for a good five minutes, which meant I still had 56 miles to go. Yay!

I had been walking for an hour when I just had to take a break. I honestly thought I was better than this. But with the lack of food and sleep and the weight of the bike I was pushing along, I can't say I was surprised. I put the bike on its stand and sat on the floor, the wetness instantly seeping into my already wet jeans. I would give myself five minutes before I started moving again. Just five minutes...

P.O.V of Damian.

I didn't eat for the entire day, and I knew I was not getting to sleep tonight. I looked over at the clock on the wall, one in the morning. Yeah, I wasn't getting to sleep tonight. I climbed out of bed, changed into black jeans and a red hoodie which I stole from Dick; he was small enough that it fit me fine. I went downstairs into the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. The team had created shifts, so Wally, Artemis and Superboy were currently out searching for Dick. I prayed that they would find them, but God wasn't real and he couldn't bring Dick back. I was debating going down to the Batcave and practicing when I heard the door open. I ducked behind the wall as I watched a figure enter and close it behind them. But I was then hugging them so tightly I'm sure they couldn't breathe.
"You missed me huh?" Dick chuckled, hugging me back.
He was soaked through completely, but right now I didn't care. As long as he was here, in one piece.
"We thought the Court had you." I held in my sob.
"Not on my watch Dami." He removed my arms from him and I looked at him as if he was in a miracle.
Until I saw his arms and my face went slack. They were scarred like there was no tomorrow, small 'J''s, large hearts with 'H and J', question marks, and just the average cuts all up and down them.
"Don't worry little D." He grinned, noticing where I was looking and pulling the sleeves of his hoodie down, "They're not recent."
"Take your top off." I ordered.
"Pardon?" He raised his eyebrows at me but I just glared at him and he did.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. He was covered in them. More small 'J''s and hearts and question marks. Then there were some Cat scratches and marks that looked like they were from a vine. But the worst was the large writing of 'Property of Mistah J." that was over his heart.
"It's fine." He said, "Now, I need to tell my team I'm back. And Tim and Jay."
"No," I said, "You need to rest. You look exhausted."
"I'll sleep after." He said, even as he yawned.
"Fine, but I'm coming with you." I said, "And you're telling me what happened when you wake back up."
"Sure." I grumbled as his eyelids began to drop.
"C'mon, take this and come see them." I said handing him his hoodie.
He slipped it on and we headed up the stairs and knocked on Tim's door.
"Go away." Came the mumbled reply.
"But I just got back." Dick slurred, and the door was instantly open to show a wide-eyed Tim in just his boxers.
I quickly averted my eyes; at least he wasn't covered in scars. He embraced Dick and broke down into sobs. The noise brought Jay out of his room as well and when he saw Dick he squealed and ran over the join the hug. I watched, leaning against the door, as all three of my brothers sobbed into each other's shoulders. I would have found it amusing were I not wanting to join the hug. And as if he heard me think it Dick pulled me into the middle of the sandwich. I could have stayed blissful in that moment forever, I really could have. But it just had to be ruined but a certain Martian.
"You're back!" She squealed and we all broke apart.
She must have sent something through the mind link as Aqualad then came down the stairs with a relieved look on his face.
"Where are the others?" Dick asked, leaning on the door to keep himself standing.
"They're coming." She answered, "I think it's time you went to bed."
"I couldn't agree more." He said and we watched as he walked down the hall and into his room where I could imagine him flopping onto his bed and instantly falling to sleep.
I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face.
