Chapter 28: The Beginning of the end: third person Annabeth

A/n: Yep, the title is right, ladies and gentlemen!! We are approaching the end of the story! I hope you don't hate me, since these next few chapters... you'll just have to read them. Also, you probably noticed that this chapter will be in third-person. Sorry for switching it up now, but it'll make writing these next few chapters easier. Now, with that out of the way, enjoy the chapter!

Third person pov: Annabeth

Annabeth put her invisibility cap on her head and stalked behind Tam. Along with Keefe, he was taking Tempest to the Neverseen's base hidden in the Lost Cities. She had told them about it, and apparently she also knew for a fact that once Hazel and Percy were gone Camp Half Blood would be left alone and everyone would come there. The news would've been great, had Tempest been trustworthy.

Annabeth tried to move as quietly as possible. She knew she was breaking her own plan, but she had to make sure everything worked. The plan she'd told everyone was almost a fake. She didn't want any curious telepaths snooping around and finding out what she was planning. This was the only way she could think of.

Lurking behind the three elves, she watched as Tempest whispered something in a strange language that couldn't have been the Enlightened Language, since Sophie had taught her that, and a blond elf, who I could only guess was Gisela, came out from secret entryway. "Ah, Tempest, you're back!" She said walking closer to her. The two of them stared at each other for a short while before Gisela slapped her across the face. "Where were you?" She hissed.

"Gisela," Tempest started calmly, "I don't know if you realized this, but killing someone's friend doesn't make them like you." Annabeth stared at Tempest. Tempest didn't know of any plan, as far as she knew, so her lie was completely on her own behalf. Smiling, she found herself unable to keep from trusting the girl a bit more.

"And why did you bring my son here?" Gisela asked.

"Tam helped me." Tempest added on to her lie, "He never left our cause, but only I knew it. You said you wanted him to fulfill his legacy, right?"

Gisela grinned, "Well, I'm sure having a friend here will help convince you to stay." She told her son.

Keefe gave a sharp laugh, "Fat chance."

Gisela sighed, but she didn't stop smiling, "You never know. Follow me, Cyclone."

Gisela turned on her heel and disappeared back into the base. Annabeth waited for everyone to start after her before following Gisela into the base. Walking down the slanted path, she stopped when the path suddenly dropped. From a distance, the drop would've looked like a dead end in a small cave. Carefully, she dropped down and froze when Keefe, Tam, and Tempest turned around slightly at the sound. She waited for them to turn around again before she approached them.

As she came closer she listened to their conversation,"... name was Tempest?" Keefe said quietly.

"I have many names," Tempest replied, "Most of them are nicknames. At this point, I'm not entirely sure which one I picked. If I remember correctly, you knew me as Typhoon," she pointed at Tam, "Fintan and Vespera occasionally call me Storm, Gisela calls me Cyclone, Alvar and Ruy have a strange amount of fun calling me Gale, and, for some reason, Gethen prefers to call me Squall."

"Yeah, let's not use that last one," Keefe told her.

Tempest shrugged, "Well, every name that I'm called was considered my name for a time, similar to Glimmer, except everyone had different ideas of what to call me. Right now the most common name is Tempest, though I'm sure soon it'll change soon enough. Still, a few people will keep giving me the name Tempest."

Tam looked like he was about to say something when they all froze. Annabeth stopped and looked at what they were staring at and felt her eyes widen. Tempest stood between Keefe and Tam, standing confidently, although the hand holding her left arm made her look anything but brave to Annabeth. Past her was a group of 6 people, two of which were girls, and the rest were men. One of the girls was Gisela, so Annabeth assumed the other was Vespera. There was also a boy who looked a lot like Fitz, so she guess he was the brother Fitz hated named Alvar, but she didn't know enough about the others to guess who they were.

"So," a man with blond hair and shocking blue eyes started, "You're back."

"Did you think I wouldn't be, Gethen?" Tempest asked.

"You brought others," Vespera noted.

"I knew Gisela wanted to help her son live up to his legacy. Tam came along for the ride."

"Where've you been the last few days?" Alvar asked. Annabeth was far away, so she couldn't hear them very well, but she could've sworn he asked it like a concerned older brother.

"I was getting Tam to join me in bringing Keefe here. Took longer than I thought."

"And where did the targets go?" A man with blond hair, sky blue eyes, and pointy ears asked.

Tempest shrugged, "I managed to get rid of one, but the others apparently didn't like that. Shocking one of them somehow managed to short circuit the devices we put on them, and they attacked me. I injured some of them, but the son of Zeus and the daughter of Pluto managed to either hide everyone or bring them away before I had the chance to eliminate them all."

The man frowned, "You had one job, Storm."

Tempest gave him a half smile, "Fintan, you fought only one demigod during the battle, and he was tiring you. The only reason he didn't kill you was because Flicker managed to help you in time."

The man - Fintan - looked at her angrily, whisps of smoke rising from his hands. Slowly, he turned and walked away, with Vespera and Gethen following him on Gisela's signal. Tempest muttered something under her breath while Gisela and the final man, who must've been Ruy, approached her. Tempest slowly moved forward and met Ruy. She was a bit shorter than him, but that didn't make her any less intimidating. "Tempest," Gisela said, "Now isn't time for in-group rivalries."

Tempest glared at Ruy for an extra second before turning towards Gisela. "What do you need, Gisela?" She asked.

"I need you to tell me whatever plan you came up with to help the Moonlark. "Gisela said.

Annabeth felt her jaw drop, and Keefe and Tam looked at each other concerned. Tempest, however, just looked at Gisela confused, "Plan? Gisela, we don't have a plan for anything."

Gisela gave her a disappointed smirk, "Well, I was really hoping you would see the logical way out here." She grabbed Tempest's arm, "But now this is just going to turn out worse for everyone."

Tempest looked back at Keefe and Tam, who were watching her carefully. She sighed before turning to Gisela. "I'm sorry," she said quietly as she raised her free hand, "But I can't let that happen."

There was a flash of light and a frightened scream, and soon Tempest was running back towards Keefe and Tam. She grabbed each of their hands and pulled them back the way they came. Annabeth followed close behind until she saw Ruy raising his arms. Stopping just in Time, she managed to back away as the force field appeared.

Trying to hide her fear, Annabeth made her way carefully over to Ruy. Tempest was yelling at him in the strange language she'd used before, and he would reply the same way. Whatever language they were using seemed to be known only to the two of them, since everyone else looked confused, but there was no way it was a family thing, since, even though siblings could be annoying, they were full out rivals. Alvar was trying to break up the fight, so he wasn't paying attention to if there was anyone else in the room. Gisela was either tired of their arguments or thought Ruy and Alvar would kill the three trapped elves, because she turned and left.

"Alvar!" Tempest yelled in the elven language, "Are you seriously going to let him keep us trapped here?!?"

Alvar shrugged, but it seemed sad, "Gisela said to kill you. "

"You aren't actually going to-"

"I'm sorry, Gale. But we have to."

Tempest looked at him shocked for a moment before sighing, "Well, at least let those two go. I made them come with me."

"You didn't-" Keefe was cut off by Tempest.

"You know that I've done it before." She kept her gaze on Alvar.

"Isn't that a Mesmer ability?" Tam asked.

Ruy chuckled. He was merely steps away, but Annabeth had to wait for the right moment. "So, they don't know?"

Tempest shrugged, "You aren't the only person who doesn't trust me. "

Ruy chuckled again, "Well, I'm surprised they haven't figured it out yet." He looked at Keefe and Tam, "You are looking at one of the only Chargers known to the elves, and the most powerful Begulier you'll ever meet."

Keefe and Tam shared a look, and Annabeth seized the opportunity. Pulling out her dagger, she ran towards Ruy and knocked him down. She didn't want to kill him, but she wanted to make sure he wouldn't trap them again. "Go!" She shouted as the force field fell. The elves all stared at her blankly for a second before Keefe turned and levitated up, Tam soon following. Annabeth lost her cap, but kept Ruy's hands pinned to the ground so he couldn't create more force fields while Tempest dealt with Alvar.

After a short while of struggling, Tempest pushed Alvar away and grabbed Annabeth. "Stay behind me," she hissed, and Annabeth willingly did as she said. Whatever Tempest did was effective, because when she stopped, both of the elves were on the ground, trying to get up. "Grab your cap and let's go!" She exclaimed. Annabeth went over and grabbed her hat before grabbing Tempest's wrist and letting her pull her out of the base.

Tempest put her hands on Annabeth's shoulders, "Annabeth, you'd better get that cap on pronto. If Keefe or Tamor someone else goes looking for you and you're not there..."

Annabeth nodded and ran in the direction of her hiding spot as fast as she could, putting her cap back on to make herself invisible. She tried to keep herself from looking back to see where Tempest had gone, but when she finally gave in, Tempest was no longer there. Turning back ahead, she marched forward, hoping that everyone was okay.

There you go! I hope this makes up for not updating yesterday... also, I did mention a vanished named Flicker. Yeah, you don't need to remember who that is. They aren't important to this story at all. Also, I will try to update tomorrow, but I may just put the chapter out today if I finish it. Well, that's all for now. See y'all later!
