Chapter 18: ...What? -Keefe
A/n: Yes, this is a Keefe chapter. There are some pretty important things that I need to reveal at some point, so this chapter will make it easier for me. Enjoy!
PoV: Keefe
"Keefe, we don't need to check Everglen a third time!" Biana complained .
"They could be hiding somewhere!" I countered, " You never know! "
"You search this closet every time we walk through this hallway! If anyone was in there, we would've found them! "
"You're not using that as an excuse to drag me the Shores of Solace!"
" Yes I am! I don't care if you think it's worth it or not! "
"Biana, there's no reason to check on my dad! I'm sure he's fine!"
"You don't know that! And I'm not worried about your dad! But there could be clues about the raids at the Shores of Solace, and we need all the information we can get."
" Then why don't we search Candleshade or something? " I asked, searching for any excuse to not go to my father's sea side home.
"Uh, because nobody has lived there for a long time!" Biana pointed out, " Who would search an empty house? "
"According to you, we're currently searching an empty house."
" You know what I mean! " Biana sighed, grabbing out the pathfinder we had used to get there, since Biana wanted to leave her home crystal with Sophie, and Sophie had given Biana hers.
Biana set the pathfinder her the facet that led to the Shores of in before grabbing the back of my cape, "Come on, Keefe."
" Biana, No! " I cried as I tried to unclasp my cape.
"Biana yes," she replied as I was dragged into the beam created by the pathfinder.
_________
When we arrived at the Shores of Solace, the first thing I tried to do was take the pathfinder away from Biana, which was pointless, since she just vanished and ended up behind me. I sighed, "Fine, we can search here. But if my dad locks me in my room and never lets me out, I'm blaming you. "
"Oh please, your dad couldn't lock you in your room for an hour." Biana countered, " You just never left because you wanted to annoy him. "
"True."
We walked carefully towards the grey blue building. There were no visible lights coming from the inside, and no sound besides the waves crashing on the sand. Slowly, I pushed open the door, Biana following behind me. Everything was in complete disarray, with almost every piece of furniture overturned and every book and piece of paper lying on the floor. Every drawer had been opened and emptied, along with the closets. While part of me was happy that my father would have to deal with this, the other part of me wondered how he let it happen in the first place.
Biana must've been thinking the same thing as me, because she started moving through the chaos, looking for clues as to what they were looking for. I half heartedly joined her, thinking more about how Sophie had refused to tell us what the Neverseen members must've been looking for. All she had said was that "our families might be in danger". Like, Foster may be great, but you don't say things with that small of an amount of detail.
When we finished in the front room, we continued through the rest of the house, which was quicker than at first, since it was less of a disaster, sadly. Biana and I carefully picked our way through the mess, looking for any possible clues. Like I had suspected, we couldn't find any.
We searched for over an hour before we arrived at my room. Of course, I hadn't stayed there in a long time, but it was still technically mine. "Do we really need to search my room? " i asked Biana as she grabbed for the door handle.
"Yep! Your dad could've out something in here after you left."
I have a half hearted laugh, "Like he'd hide something important in his disappointing son's bedroom! "
Biana just sighed and opened the door. Whoever had made the mess in the rest of the house clearly had the same mentality as me, because my room was basically the same as I had left it: clean enough to walk in but dirty enough to make my dad frustrated. "Well, at least they didn't change this room too much..." Biana muttered as she walked around.
"I already told you, there's nothing here! " I exclaimed, leaning back against the wall.
"You never know."
" Now I know how you felt when I kept insisting we check Everglen over and over again. " I laughed.
"Yeah, but this time I found something!"
" Wait, really? "
Biana nodded and walked over to a part of the wall. "Look here," she instructed.
I did as she said, but I couldn't see anything, "Um... what?"
" Right here. There's a separation in the wall. " she moved her finger up and down a line I couldn't see.
"I still don't see it, Biana."
"Really? Hmm..." she shrugged, " Maybe it has something to do with where you're standing? "
I moved behind her. At first, I still didn't see anything, but soon, a thin seam in the crystal appeared, "Woah."
"So I did find something!!!!" Biana squealed with delight.
" Yeah, something small. Doesn't every wall have those?"
Biana vigorously shook her head, "My father told me about them when I was little, resulting in me going through my whole house looking for them. He said that they are usually evidence of false walls."
I rolled my eyes, "Why would there be a false wall in my room?"
" Many reasons. Sometimes it's better to not learn them. "
I grinned, "Well, now I want to know! How do we open them? "
"Some of them have complicated locks. Others can be opened by just pushing on it or using telekinesis."
" Sooo, I'm guessing we're trying option 2 first? " I asked. Biana nodded, and together we lifted our hands to open it.
Even together, it was still somewhat difficult to move, and I was about to give up when the wall swung open like a door. I laughed and Biana smiled as we walked inside. My mind went through lots of different things that could be at the end of the hallway, and the different ways I could use each thing against my father.
There was another door at the end of the hall. Hastily, I opened it, curiosity getting the best of me. As it opened to reveal the room, I my curiosity became confusion. In front of us was a large bedroom, neat and clean. The mattress was bare, and the desk in the corner was open and empty. Compared to my room, this place was incredibly tiny.
"Wait, what?" Biana asked as we walked inside, "Do you know why this is here?"
" No, " I replied, "I didn't know this place existed."
A loud crash came from the extremely small closet, and we both whirled towards it. I saw Biana slip a throwing star into her hand, and I grabbed one of my own before yanking open the door. Neither of us moved, but I started laughing when I saw Lord Cassius' terrified face looking up at me. Not gonna lie, it was the best thing I'd ever seen.
"W-what?" Cassius stammered, making me laugh even harder, "K-keefe?"
"Y-you're face!" i gasped between laughs, " it w-was priceless!! "
Cassius rolled his eyes as Biana spoke, "What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing. "
"We just happened to find a false wall in Keefe's bedroom. Doesn't explain how you got here, though. "
"Well, if you must know, I've been here for the last few days. Ro has been monitoring my room in case someone tried to get in. I didn't know you could also reach it from my son's room. "
"Ro's here?" I asked, slightly happy to hear my ogre princess bodyguard was okay.
"Yes, unfortunately," Cassius shuddered, and I grinned thinking about what Ro may have done.
"Um, Lord Cassius?" Biana asked , "Why is this room here anyway? There would be no reason to make this specifically as a hide out, and you even admitted you didn't know where some of the entrances were."
Cassius sighed, "I may have let someone stay here for a while. "
"...what?" I asked , partially laughing, "You? Helping someone? No way that's true!"
"It is. Keefe, I realize you hate me-"
"Yeah, pretty sure the feeling's mutual." I interrupted.
Cassius rolled his eyes, "Whatever. But I'm telling you the truth, there was someone else living here for a while." He moved from his spot in the closet and pointed towards a row of cloaks and tunics he'd been blocking from my vision, "You really think I would let your mother store her things in my beach house?"
I pushed him out of the way and took a closer look at the cloaks. There was definitely no way any of them belonged to my mother. "...what?" I whispered.
Biana came up next to me, "Well, whoever these belong to, they have the same amount of style as Sophie."
" Yeah. " I said as I turned to face Cassius again, "Well, I guess that's just another thing we'll have to figure out without your help. " I grabbed Biana's wrist and pulled her back the way we came. "Let's go. I want to say hi to Ro."
Sorry I updated later than usual. I was busy today. BUt, this chapter is longer than my other ones, so I hope it makes up for it. I'm super excited, since I've completely figured out where this story's going, and I can't wait to share it with you all! Hopefully I'll be able to update tomorrow, so I'll see you then! Bye for now!
