Chapter 4
"Eh... prove it? How?" Obito asked.
Narutos eyebrows furrowed, as he sank into thought.
"Ya could walk through the marketplace and talk to people. If they don't reply, then ya are a ghost!" Child logic.
Obito sighed in exasperation. "Okay. Let's go." Under his breath, he muttered. "Doesn't really matter. I'm still your Nii-chan."
He didn't see Narutos eyes widen in comprehension. He mouthed Nii-chan.
Obito turned to Naruto. "Well, Gaki? C'mon!" He scooped Naruto up and ran to the marketplace. He set Naruto down, and stopped a passerby. Or well, tried to. They couldn't hear him.
"So ya really are a ghost? Then why are ya following me?" Naruto looked at Obito.
"Because Naruto. Kami did me a favor. One I didn't deserve. I will protect you until you are strong enough to defend yourself."
"Can ya train me?" He asked. Obito felt himself smile. "Yeah. I'll train you to be big and strong."
Naruto smiled. Then he frowned. "Why does my eye feel different? It's like one burns a little, and the other can see really clear."
Obito cleared his throat. "Uh, Naruto? What I am about to tell you is a secret. A big, but secret. One you can tell to whoever you want, but then they can't talk about it."
Naruto nodded. "Okay."
Obito sighed. "When you were born, your mom, Kushina-nee, had something happen. You see, your mom was what one calls a jinchuriki. A jinchuriki is a human who had a tailed beast sealed in them. If the beast is ever taken out of them, they die. Now, when you were born, a bad man came and took the beast out of her, and used it to attack the village. That was the nine failed fox. Your father fought the man, and broke his control, but the beast was angry and kept attacking the village. So your dad had to seal the Fox into a newborn baby. He couldn't damn someone else's baby knowing he wouldn't do it to his kid, so he sealed it in you. You became the new jinchuriki, the hero to the village."
Naruto had a look of realization on his face. "So that's why the villagers hate me! But I'm not the fox, right? So why do they hate me?" His voice was so lost and sad, that Obito felt a tear slip from his eye.
"You are not the fox. Naruto, they had loved ones killed because of the fox. And when they heard that you had the fox in you, their grief turned into hate. They needed a scapegoat so they chose you. You are just a child. One who is amazingly strong to be able to take their abuse." Obito hugged Naruto, who was shocked.
"But...Don't You hate me? The Yondaime died! He was my father and he died! He died so he could seal a monster in his son! Why! Why don't you hate me?"
Obito was as heartbroken by Naruto's words. He swept Naruto up into a hug. "I'll never hate you. Ever. But we need to talk about your eyes." He said, setting Naruto down. Two different eyes stared back at him.
"My eyes?" Naruto asked. He looked at his reflection in a kunai, and gasped.
Obito caught him as he fell back, tripping over his own feet.
"One eye is called the Sharingan. It's an Uchiha Dojutsu. I think you got it from me, or rather my chakra. The other is what Kyuubis eye looks like." Obito tore a piece of cloth off of an old blanket. He had Naruto wear it like a headband and tilt it over his left eye.
"Oh Kami, you're a mini blond-short-haired Kakashi." That was the first thing Obito thought. Next was, "Pull the Chakra out of your other eye."
He watched as Naruto's eye faded back to blue. "There." He said.
Naruto touched the cloth covering his Kyuubi eye. "How do I explain this?" He asked.
"Tell them you were attacked by a drunk civilian that you had pranked and a piece of glass for in your eye, and that you keep it covered as it heals. Then when it heals, when in reality it won't, say it's become a habit to wear that over your eye and that you're used to it."
Naruto nodded. "Okay!"
