Saving Cecilia

Song: I won't let go by Rascal Flatts

Weston's POV:

I have been saving up every dime, so that when I graduate I'm taking Cecilia far away from here. I feel like the farther away she is the better. There are just too many bad memories here in this town. I'm also hoping that when she is gone from here she will have fewer nightmares.

I know how much she loves the beach. So I have been looking into real estate there. I have found us a place but I haven't told her about it yet. It's right on the beach. A little out of my price range but I will make it work. I plan on telling her the night we graduate as a surprise to her. My grandparents know about it. That's how I found out about the insurance policy left from my parents. They finally told me about it and want me to use the money for a house. It was just enough to pay for it so we won't have to worry about a house payment. I have also talked with hers. They were not too happy about it at first saying I lost my mind, we are too young to be living on our own. But in the end they feel maybe this is what she needs as well.

I've been counting down the days. Exactly fourteen more days. Then she will be mine....all mine.

I hate working on weekends but if I'm planning on getting out of here we need all the money we can get. I have quite a bit saved up in the bank already. As I leave work, I call her. I love hearing her voice any time during the day. It rings longer than usual but then she answers it. "Hey you just get off work?"

I pull out into the street. "Yeah, I'm fixing to be home. What are you doing?"

"Well I was studying for Spanish but Chipper says we need to eat." She laughs. "So I just stopped to fix him something. Don't worry I'm eating too." It's like she knew I was going to ask her.

Well at least I know she is eating. I reach over to change the radio station. I can't stand when all they do is talk. She says something is strange and it gets my attention again.

"What's that?" I ask her.

"The back door is open."

"Maybe the wind blew it open." I tell her. The wind is blowing good tonight and I think we are supposed to have a few storms later. I should just swing by just to check things out. Just to be on the safe side. "You want me to come over and check things out?"

Of course she says, "No, I should be fine."

I pull into the drive and get out. "I just got home. I can tell my grandparents that I need to go by your place...just to make sure everything is fine."

Again she tells me no, as I'm walking into the house I see my grandparents. They are both sitting on the couch watching TV. I hear something on the other end, a loud crash, something shattering.

"Cecilia are you alright...what was that?"

I wait for her to reply...nothing.

"Cecilia...Cecilia...are you ok?"

She chokes out, "He's here."

"Who? Who's there?" I ask her but I already know by the sound of her voice who it is. I know it's him. How in the hell did he manage to get out?

"My father." She says in almost a whisper.

"What? Cecilia....shit I'm on my way." I pick back up my keys.

As I'm heading back out the door my grandfather asks, "What's wrong?"

"Call 911, tell them to get to Cecilia's now...." I rush out the door.

I hear him talking to her. He wants the phone.

"Cecilia don't give him the phone," I tell her as I jump in the car, jerking the gear shift in reverse out of the driveway. I slam on the gas and fly to her house as fast as I possibly can hitting over eighty. I figured if a cop sees me then he can follow me to her house. I can't hear what is going on but suddenly the phone goes dead.

"Son of a...." I hit the steering wheel with my fist. I try calling again but nothing. Dammit I should have just gone straight over there. My mind races wildly, my imagination getting the better of me. I'm afraid I'm not going to make it in time.

I pull all the way up to the house, running over a few of her Grammy's flowers. I jump out of the car, running up the steps. I don't bother knocking. I grasp the door knob but it is locked. I get the key out from under the flower pot on the porch and open it, slinging the door wide open. He is standing between us with a knife in his hand.

"Step back boy this doesn't concern you." He hisses.

"The hell it doesn't." I look past him. She is on the floor on the other side of the flipped coffee table. I can tell he must have thrown her over there the way everything is scattered on the floor. Her eyes dart back at me and she looks so scared and fragile. Her face is starting to turn black and blue from him. Blood is coming out of her mouth. He has defiantly had his share of fun with her. I just have to convince him to let her go. "Cecilia it's going to be ok." I reassure her.

I look down at the floor and there are bloody footprints all over the floor. That's when I notice the shattered plate all over the floor mixed with food. That's what the noise was on the phone.

He says something to her about me then grabs her pulling her up and holding the knife to her throat.

"You come one step closer and I will slice her throat." He growls.

I know he is not kidding. I hold both hands up to show him I am unarmed. It's just me, no knife, no gun, nothing. "Look just let her go."

He has this crazy look in his eyes and I know he has to be on something besides alcohol. I watch as he pricks her skin, just enough to make her bleed, enough to make me realize he is serious. He glares back at me.

"I suggest you leave, surely you don't want to die today."

Cecilia pleads with me to leave her but there is no way in hell I'm leaving without her. If it's my day to die then so be it. I won't go down without a fight. "I'm not leaving here without her. How about we fight for her."

I'm pretty sure I can take him out. I have been doing a lot of training at the gym and beside he is so messed up right now.

He laughs at me. "You fight me; you're just a stupid kid."

"Then you should be alright fighting me." I tell him.

"Sure why the hell not this is going to be so much fun."

I wasn't expecting him to rear back and hit the shit out of her, blood goes flying in midair and she falls to the floor, lifeless.

"Now she is out of the way....come on boy let's see if you got what it takes." He comes towards me and I hit the shit out of him. He stumbles backwards grabbing his jaw.

"Oh...it's on now boy." He comes back at me swinging. I duck down, throwing a fist right into his gut. He goes down hard, trying to catch his breath. Before he stands back up I kick him so hard he falls over on his side.

I grab him up by the shoulders of his shirt and pull him out the front door. "She's mine now. I will take care of her. I suggest you get your ass out of here." I hear sirens in the distance coming closer. I know they will be here any minute. A car pulls up and her Pops gets out.

"What in hell is going on here?" He growls.

Grammy gets out and yells towards us, "Where is Cecilia?"

"She's inside ma'am....I'm just taking out the trash here." I turn to hit him again.

When he rolls over, Pops realizes who it is. He walks to his truck and pulls out a rifle. He starts walking over to us and points it right at him. "Give me a damn good reason why I shouldn't kill you?"

He just lays there trying to catch his breath.

"That's what I thought you son-of-a-bitch, you move one inch and I will cap your ass."

When the ambulance pulls up we both look away for a split second. Her dad reaches down into his sock and pulls out a pocket knife. I didn't notice it in time and he stabs me right in the back of my leg. I scream out and when I do Pop's realizes what just happen and he doesn't hesitate one second. He points the gun up at him and pulls the trigger. A loud bang goes off and the result of it is a bullet to the head.

"I told you not to move you stupid bastard."

When the gun goes off, Grammy screams out. She takes off running to the house. Pop's and I follow her inside. The house is destroyed, furniture knocked over, broken pieces everywhere from the plate and a few of the knick-knack she collects. I look over at Grammy and she is holding Cecilia, rocking her back and forth.

Paramedics come into the house with officers. They see Pops with the rifle. "Put the gun down Pops, it's over now."

He lays it on the table, and then places his hands in the air. The good thing is everyone knows him in this town. Everyone calls him Pops and they know what he is capable of if he is pissed off. So many people don't get on his bad side. They don't arrest him, saying something about self defense.

We watch as the paramedics go over to Cecilia and pick her up. We watch as they carry her out of the house. I try to walk behind them but I'm limping pretty badly. One of the guys looks at me. "Looks like you need some medical attention. Come on in here with us. I will look at it on the way to the hospital."

I get in the back and while he is looking at my leg I grab her hand. I hold it the whole way, praying everything is going to be alright.
