A new Place-Again

Song: Welcome to my Life by Simple Plan- sung by Bely Basarte

We have been living in the car for a week now. Do you have any idea what it's like to be homeless? This is freaking crazy and I so need a shower. Going to the local park to use the bathroom and washing in the sink is beyond words but you will do what you have to.

I get home from school today or should I say back to the parked car and both of them are actually smiling.

"We found a place, were moving in the morning." My mom beams at me. I guess by now she too is tired of the cramped up car.

"Where to this time?" I ask.

"Drop the attitude," my dad warns.

I don't have an attitude, I was just curious. But anyway.

Comes to find out it's in another county which means I have to change schools again for the hundredth time. Yay for me.

I don't get much sleep in the car because all I can thing about is my empty stomach growling begging to be fed and then my freezing body shivering to the bone. My fingers are going numb. Not to mention on top of all this them snoring dear lord I try to block out my surroundings but nothing works.

Morning finally comes and we drive to meet the new landlord. The house is alright I guess, I mean at least it's a place to stay. The place looks like no one has lived here for a while. He greets my parents and they of course put on a show.

"It's three bedrooms, two bathroom, you have to pay first months rent now along with the one hundred deposit. Also no pets allowed. Any questions?" He asks. I try to ignore the way he keeps looking at me.

"No sir, so five hundred today right?" says my dad.

"Yes sir and you of course have to pay the utilities and the up keep of the place."

My dad takes out money from his wallet and hands it over. I wonder where he got that. Hell if he had it to begin with why not pay the other landlord but I don't dare ask about it.

I take the room in the far part of the house because I want to be as far away from them as possible. The house is empty of course, nothing like sleeping on a hard cold floor.

We don't have any electricity all weekend and it's cold in here but it's better than being in the cramped up car freezing. At least here I am alone again just the way I like it.

Monday morning comes and my mom wakes me up before heading to work.

"Cecilia time to get up, time to make new friends." She says with a slight smile.

I groan, but get out of bed. No reason to stay home with him. So I might as well face the new school, same old crap.

We pull and the school is not much different from the last. As I walk in with her, I look around noticing that this school has clicks just like all the rest. You can tell who is popular and who is not and the jocks from the geeks. Same old thing over and over. I pass by a group of girls who immediately start talking about me the moment I pass by.

There are several guys that I hear talking about me being a new girl and all. Some comments I would rather not say I even heard.

I follow beside my mom, making our way to the front office as more gossip floating around me about must be new, and who is that girl.

The secretary behind the desk greets us with a smile and she is over bubbly, joy. "May I help you?" she says way too cheerfully.

"Yes, I would like to enroll my daughter to this school; we just moved here on Saturday." My mom gives her a fake smile, trying to be bubbly like the secretary.

"Ok." She reaches for a form and hands it to my mom to fill out. My mom takes it from her and I hear the huff in her voice. She scribbles fast filling in all the information and handing it back over to the lady.

She reads over it and looks up at me, "Nice to meet you Miss Cecilia Amity Tucker. So what name do you go by sweetheart?"

"Cecilia." I roll my eyes and try to avoid looking back at her.

"What a beautiful name, well Cecilia I will hand this to the Guidance Counselor and we will get you enrolled into your classes."

"Do I need to stay or will she be good to go; I'm going to be late for work?" My mom asks.

"Cecilia will be fine Mrs. Tucker. She can have a seat over there; they will have her fixed up in no time." She points to a chair against the wall.

My mom turns and leaves not even bothering to tell me bye as I go sit down and wait.

A very slender tall woman comes out of an office and gestures for me to follow her back in. "Good morning Cecilia, I am Mrs. Coleman the Guidance Counselor here at Everglades High please come in and have a seat."

I have a seat. I have done this so many times I know what is coming...why are you here? Do you have other family here? Blah...Blah...Blah.

"So what brings your family here to Everglade?"

"Honestly, I don't know they found a place to rent and so here we are."

She tries to smile at me. "Well, may I ask what classes you are currently taking? I can try to get your schedule to be about the same. I can get your transcripts from the last school later. But for now let's see what we can do."

I ramble on about the classes I was taking, the usual crap...English III, Algebra II, World History, Chemistry, Spanish III, Art III, and Music III. I am a junior if you can't tell.

"Ok, let me see about those classes." She plays with a computer program and then hits a button to print out the schedule. "Here you go. Also here is a map of the school. Would you like me to send another student with you to help you find your classes?"

"No that's ok I'm sure I can manage." I take the schedule form her and walk out into the hallway.

The halls are empty because everyone is already in class. I get to the room, my first class and the door is shut. So I knock.

When the door opens, the teacher looks upset but then attempts to smile. "Can I help you?"

I show her my schedule and say, "This is my first class."

As I follow her into the room she rambles on, "Class we have a new student...Cecilia. Cecilia please find a seat and for future reference don't be late to my class. OK class so who would like to solve the problem on the board."

Well she seems a little rude, yay. However the good thing about that is that I don't have to give a big spill about who I am.

By the time lunch rolls around, I'm the talk of the school. I find a table in a far corner where no one is sitting hoping to be left alone. However a group of girls come up and two guys and they immediately sit down.

"This is our table." Says the brunette. "Hi I'm Ericka. This is Karina and her boyfriend Josh." She points to them. Then gestures for the other girl, "that is Jessie and this here is my boyfriend Benjie."

I go to get up from the table and they stop me.

"Wait you can stay," says Jessie. She is also a brunette with long locks and gorgeous skin. She has on make-up but not too much.

Josh looks at me and asks, "I hear you moved into the last house on the left on Baker Street."

I nod my head.

"You know that house is probably haunted."

"Yeah the father that lived there shot and killed his family," said Karina. "God I miss Walker and Weston."

"Weston's not dead you know....stop saying it like he is," argues Benjie.

"We were all friends," Ericka starts to explain. "You're right Benjie, his not gone but he might as well be. He has been in a coma since. Anyway is it creepy living in that house?"

I shake my head no.

"Well I wouldn't live there, no way in hell after what had happened," says Karina.

I don't say anything as I listen to them talk about that and then other stuff that has been going on around the school, gossip. I've never sat at lunch with anyone before and I pretty sure this won't ever happen again.

At the end of the day, I walk outside thinking someone would come and take me home but I should have known better. I take off walking towards home.

I'm half way down the street when a car pulls up beside me. I hear a girl yelling out the window. "Tell me you're not walking all the way home. Get in we will take you," says Ericka.

"It's okay..I don't mind walking."

Jessie leans over Ericka. "Girl seriously get in."

They open the door for me and I climb into the back seat. I don't have to tell them where I live because they all ready know.

When they pull up to let me out they do not get out, thank goodness. There is no way that I could explain not having any furniture inside, not even a chair at the moment.

"Thanks for the ride."

"You're welcome, anytime." They both say in unison and wave me off.

I walk in and go straight to my room and no one bothers saying anything. I wonder if I didn't even bother coming back if they would even notice.
