"How big must a lie be before you can no longer say sorry?"

Coward little kitchen boy!

Coward little kitchen boy!

Coward little kitchen boy!

Coward!

Coward!

Coward!

Thomas was hiding but he couldn't hide from his guilt, his thoughts and his regret. What he had done, he knew was awful. He knew he never should've lied from them. but is it so bad to want to be important? No... Is it bad to lie for it? Probably. He didn't know. He just knew he was a coward.

Coward!

Coward!

Coward!

Coward little kitchen boy!

Coward little kitchen boy!

Coward little kitchen boy!

He shouted nonsensical demands, kicking out and yelling, "Shut up! Shut up!" Sobs racked his body and he spluttered and gasped for air as he hid inside the forest. Honestly, he was unsure where he was. That's when Virgil found him.

"Thomas?" The Water King sounded surprised to see his friend in such a state.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry I lied!"

Virgil's' concerned, lilac face appeared in his vision, a hand reaching forwards to brush Thomas's' cheek. "What did you lie about?"

"Everything! Eh-Everything! I'm n-no prince!" He confessed chokingly. "I'm a coward! Kitchen boy!"

Sympathy took over Virgil's' features and he sighed gently. "Oh, Thomas, it's okay. I'm sure no one will be upset."

"Y-You didn't see Logan," Thomas replied shakingly, his voice wavering and softening in the calming presence of the King. "You didn't see hi-hi-his face..."

"You told Logan?" Virgil asked curiously.

Thomas shook his head. "No, n-no, the shapeshifter did."

Instantly, Virgil stiffened, his hand tensing on Thomas's' face. His eyes were wide, stunned and maybe... maybe guilty. But, if there was any guilt the Water King felt, he easily pretended he didn't. "Maybe Logan won't trust Remus. I'm sure it'll be fine, in the end. You're no cowardly kitchen boy, Thomas. Not one bit."

Thomas snuffled a little and then lurched carefully forwards into  Virgil's' arms, recieving an awkward hug.

The pair sat there in deafening silence, the only noise coming from tweeting birds and large lumbering mammals. Virgil twitched hungrily, but stayed as still as possible, letting Thomas press against him.

"Wh-Where you and Roman?" Thomas asked, cracking through the tension and breaking the silence.

Virgil's' face turned a funny shade of indigo. "We... He wanted to tell me something. We talked for a while."

Thomas hummed, the tears stilling on his face. "Roman said you kissed him when you cut your foot."

"I-I may have," Virgil replied, a smile in his voice as Thomas began to cheer up. "What's it to you?"

The human grinned, even if it wasn't as large and bubbly as usual. "I think you'd be cute together."

"Yes, well, you've made that quite evident."

Thomas laughed lowly, then his happiness left him slowly. "Virgil," He began, cautious and quiet.

"Hmm?"

"How big must a lie be before you can no longer say sorry?"

There was silence now. Thomas could barely hear anything beyond Virgil's' rapidly increased heart beat.

"I think..." Virgil started carefully, whispering almost shamefully. "It depends on how much the truth breaks them."

Thomas nodded and a feeling of distrust and anxiety swelled in his throat. "You seem to think over this kind of stuff."

"A little, I'll admit," The answer was short now and Virgil pushed Thomas gently off him, standing up. "We should get you back to Logan and that shapeshifter, huh?"
