Conversations
One part of the plan they had all agreed on was to not tell Virgil. They all had their own reasons. Logan didn't trust him, Roman was too shy to tell him, Patton was bad at explaining and Thomas didn't want to get another lecture about how the eyes were just hallucinations.
For over a week, they had been working on this scheme and it was going very well. The group had been travelling for Logan's' castle, since it was the closest from the ocean and they were all currently camping somewhere in the forest centre, a fire, made by Roman, crackling healthily.
Virgil was sleeping on Roman's' shoulder, curled up next to him. Blood splattered his fingers from a bird the Water King had hunted but Roman didn't seem to mind. Actually, Roman seemed delighted that the other was so close to him, despite Thomas's' teasing. The Fire King played his fingers in Virgil's' hair, smiling softly to himself as he pretended to be a part of the conversation. Logan sat firmly on a stone stool and Patton floated on a bed of air.
Thomas sat close to the fire. The 'human' sighed. "Do you think Virgil will get upset when he finds out we haven't told him about the plan thingy?"
"What could he do about it?" Logan said blankly. "I feel he'd be more embarrassed, honestly, that he didn't believe you. You needn't worry."
"Lo, that's not exactly how things work," Huffed Patton. "Thomas can't just get rid of his worry and I think that it's good that he worries. It means he cares."
Logan hesitated under the Air King's' stubborn gaze and his mouth gently twitched at the corners, briefly switching to a fond smile before resting passively. "Yes, I guess so."
Roman looked up from Virgil, his red face a little darker as the Water King seemed to have moved in a little closer. "I wonder who's following us, though."
"Honestly?" Thomas said. "I hope no one and we're all having hallucinations that are coincidentally the same."
"That's unlikely," Logan replied quickly.
Patton sighed. "Let's still hope that's the reason, though. I hate the idea of someone actually following us... It's not a very calming thought."
Virgil opened one eye, making everyone jump. "Can you shut up? I'm tryna sleep, so be quiet or I'll eat you."
"Did you hear what we were saying?" Thomas asked in surprise.
"No," Virgil grumbled, shifting his head deeper into Roman's' shoulder. "But you're being damn loud."
"Sorry, kiddo," whispered Patton. "We'll keep it down."
And that was where the conversation ended for the night.
