Kendall/Snowflake - The Present of Time

This is an old holiday chapter! I sent it out with letters in 2015 and I'm posting it here, now. I hope you all enjoy. This takes place way after Property of a Gordon!

These last few years had been complete chaos for us. I'd expected some sort of bliss, but being married to a Gordon had provided just the opposite, which I should've expected given all of our history.

There had been fights, of course. Some so bad that we'd gone to separate rooms for months, only sharing cold looks with one another. It wasn't easy, but I don't think I would ever give it up, even with those moments. But those fights were forgotten about or put to rest when we remembered just why we hadn't left the other.

I remembered why I loved my clueless Kendall. I remembered when he would look up from his work, his eyes unfocused. When they landed on me, they would sharpen, lightening a shade, before a smile appeared on his face as if it was natural. I remembered when we were close to one another and he would automatically grab my hand in his, momentarily forgetting we were mad at each other.

I remembered when he would leave an Amaryllis on my pillow, his silent but powerful way of apologizing. We were both too proud to say the words, but in the end, we always somehow found a way to express them.

These last few years had been the hardest for us. We'd already had trouble stirring when our relationship became more and more public. There had been ties cut off with Kendall, who claimed he didn't mind, and threats made towards the both of us.

It had only increased on the day of Talon's execution when his cell was found empty, a trail of dead guards the only sign he had ever been there. There had been a mass explosion of uproars, other royal families wondering if they were going to be next on Talon's list. Kendall tried calming them down, but they only seemed interested in their growing imagination.

When weeks went by without any sign of his presence, they had calmed down only a fraction. Then a year passed, and Talon was mostly forgotten about as extra security tactics were put into place.

Just when all was fine with us, when everything was finally calming down, we found out that we were expecting triplets. It could've gone smoother had Kendall not opened his mouth during his family dinner* and caused yet another massive explosion. Soon after, the public found out and Kendall's name was tarnished further while the death threats became more violent, increasing in number.

There was a time when I thought we were completely done, and I thought moving in with Cayne was the best option. I thought maybe it would lessen the tension and that all would be better. Kendall, being himself, wasn't going to have that and told me he would rather take care of it all with me by his side than do so without me. We had fought over it multiple times, but in the end, I had stayed in the palace. It was a decision I didn't regret.

Now, our lives had become a little more stable. Kendall's idea of getting rid of Protectors had been followed long ago, and it seemed to be working out for the best. His name was slowly being shined and polished again, bringing back his ego, unfortunately. The death threats were still constant, but none caused us to worry anymore.

I couldn't have been more proud of the way Kendall had handled everything, with such consistency and resilience. He had never been scared away by what was thrown at us, no matter how large or how dangerous. He'd continuously been there for us, always reassuring me that all would be fine. He was my sanity during these times, even if we had little when it came to each other.

But at the moment, he was the reason I was going to snap in front of my children.

"Kendall, if you don't get over here right now," I said, a poorly veiled threat in my voice. His blue eyes sparkled with amusement from across the room, making no move to join us.

"I am enjoying the view from here, love," he responded, a smirk sliding onto his face. I shot him a glare, struggling to keep them from running away.

"Kendall, I swear," I started, a growl building in my throat. I could hear his soft laughter before he joined us, grabbing our only girl in his arms. She screamed in delight, planting a kiss on his cheek before giggling. The sight alone brought a reluctant smile to my face.

"Okay, only the gifts with your name on them, remember?" I murmured to the two boys in my arms, both of them nodding eagerly. Their own blue eyes shined with glee, ready to tear at the wrapping paper.

Zinnia was just as excited as them, wiggling around in Kendall's arms. He whispered something into her ear with a smile, causing her to laugh and settle down.

The presents had already been organized in separate piles to prevent an even bigger disaster than possible. We had told them where their own piles were, but it didn't seem like they cared much. Their eyes were just on the presents that were begging to be unwrapped.

"Am I too late?"

"Just in time, Alex," Kendall replied without looking behind him. The triplets all looked at him, yelling a greeting before redirecting their attention to the presents.

"Okay, remember, Lance, your presents are on the left. And yours, Sammy, are right in the middle. And Daddy reminded you where yours were, right?" I asked, looking over at Kendall and Zinnia. She nodded enthusiastically while Kendall shot me a look.

"I am competent enough to do so," he muttered and I rolled my eyes at him.

"Can we go now?" Samuel asked, Lance and Zinnia begging the next second. I sighed, looking over at Kendall before we finally released them.

It was the first year we'd allowed them to open their presents on their own and it had been a mess, as predicted. Samuel had finished unwrapping his early and decided it was his job to help Lance. Kendall had stayed beside Zinnia who'd asked for his help a couple of times, which he was more than willing to do for his princess.

But despite the mess, it had been my favorite Christmas of ours so far and I couldn't wait for the others to come.

"You seem to have missed a present under the tree."

I looked to my side, seeing Kendall standing there with a poorly wrapped box. I hid my smile, guessing it was him who'd done the wrapping. It was sweet of him to try instead of making someone else do it for him.

"Kendall, we agreed no presents this year," I sighed, my eyes flickering over to where Alex sat with the triplets, entertaining them.

"We both knew I would not listen, love. Would you please just open it?" He asked, wrapping an arm around me, pulling me closer to him.

"I love you," I murmured, taking the present from his hand before laughing. "And I love your present wrapping skills." I teased, receiving a piercing look.

"It is not the wrapping that matters, but what is inside," he said, his voice holding a hint of its usual irritation. But I quickly wiped it away with a quick kiss.

I unwrapped the present, my body pressed against his as I did so. Underneath the wrapping was a jewelry box, causing me to smile. "You and your jewelry," I muttered, feeling his lips against my hair.

"What better way to show my love for you than with something to remind you of your family," he whispered back.

I opened the box, pulling out the gold necklace. The chain shined, winking at me while the heart-shaped locket shimmered. I looked closer, spotting the initials A.G. and K.G on it. I looked down at the snowflake engagement ring** on my finger and the wedding band by its side, remembering the blissful day.

I opened the locket, gasping as I did so. Inside was a picture of Kendall and I, closer to when we had first met and hadn't been too fond of one another. Someone had taken a picture of us, me as a wolf and him standing there with an un-amused look in his eyes. The memory brought a smile to my face, reminiscent thoughts running through my mind.

The second picture was of us with the triplets and had been taken professionally. It had taken hours to get them to settle down and stop crying and to all smile simultaneously, but it had been worth it when the pictures were finally developed.

"Kendall, it's beautiful," I whispered, the water in my eyes threatening to spill.

"Not near as beautiful as you, love," he replied, helping me put on the necklace.

I rolled my eyes at his attempt before turning around, wrapping my arms around him, and kissing him. These last few years had been harsh, but they'd given me more than I could've ever dreamed.

The End.
