Dinner with the Gordon's

So if you're reading Patience of a Gordon, this is the dinner scene that Cayne had to leave for, and that Kendall ended up in his palace for. If you aren't reading it, then this scene occurs after Property of a Gordon, and after the Epilogue. I hope y'all enjoy it and its chaos!

"Tell me why I have to go again," I asked, sitting on the edge of our bed. What I wouldn't give to stay here and do just about anything else.

His back was turned towards me as he searched through his closet, but I hear still hear his sigh. "Love, it is a family occasion. Because of our relationship, you are now part of my family," he started and turned slightly to smile at me. "This means you have the pleasure of attending events like this as my companion."

I frowned, thinking about how I didn't sign up for this. I would rather go through hell than have to deal with his mother's childish antics. The only reason I wasn't arguing further was because I knew Cayne would be there to relieve some of the tension. I also knew we were bringing Alex with us.

"And we're in agreement, right?" I asked, my eyes catching Kendall's movement pause at my words. I narrowed them, standing up and walking over to him.

"Kendall, I swear if you try anything-" I started, my words turning into a growl and drowning out the rest.

Kendall finally turned around, holding the black tie he had been looking through the closet for. He started to put it on, but I took over, my hands replacing his.

"Love," he started, and by his cautious tone, I knew I wouldn't like how it ended. "Would it not be more efficient to tell them of our children now? We are going there to discuss Calyx and his choices, not ours. If we introduce the news now, they will not be able to fuss over it too much."

I smirked, nearly laughing. I found nothing about this funny, yet the expression on his parent's faces would be. "I can see that going so well Kendall. Yeah, Mrs. Gordon, while we're at it, Kendall and I are having a child. Not just one, but three. Congratulations on the Grandma status!"

I smoothed down the tie and looked up to meet Kendall's unamused eyes. I grinned, abruptly pressing my lips to his own. His arms wound around me just as quickly, the feeling now more natural than anything. I was the one who pulled away, nipping at his ear, before whispering,

"If you say anything while we're there you better find somewhere else to stay for the next year."

I walked back over to the bed, picking up the slim jacket that I had thrown there. I was currently wearing a thin, green, and backless dress, and knew without a doubt I would become cold.

"Do you truly believe you have the ability to kick me out of my own palace love? I may love you, however, not even you can do that," Kendall replied, sounding amused at my threat. He wouldn't sound as amused if he decided to try something today.

"We'll see about that love," I said casually right before there was a knock on the door.

"Chef Alex is waiting on you, Your Highness," a guard said, and I grinned. The thought of Alex being there will us made this a little more bearable.

I started towards the door, but Kendall stopped me before I was able to open it. He turned me, and I looked at him curiously before his hand reached up and stroked my jaw, the other stroking my stomach.

"Love, why can we not tell them today? Are you ashamed?" He asked and I gave him a piercing glare in response.

"Don't play that card Kendall, you know I'm not ashamed. I love you more than anything in this world, and the idea of raising our little ones together is amazing," I said softly, leaning into his touch.

"I just don't want to deal with your parents. And you know Calyx is going to be looking for a way out of this. He doesn't want to change his life, and telling them today would give him the perfect opportunity to turn the tables on us. I don't want to deal with the stress, okay? Please just wait, for me."

Kendall sighed, his blue eyes disappearing behind his eyelids for a moment. When they reappeared, Kendall pressing his lips to my hair and moved to open the door. "Anything for my love," he said and I grinned, linking his hand through mine before we left.

The ride there was silent for the most part. I spent most of it talking to Alex, who told me his spouse has recently been moved into Cayne's palace so that the two of them could be together. He told me the two of them would be making today's meal, as Calyx's own chef had left due to everything going on. He apparently hadn't wanted to deal with drama in his workplace.

The carriage eventually slowed down and I peered out the window, surprised. I hadn't expected Calyx to have a palace similar in style to Kendall's, although it made sense. I'd expected something more modern looking, sleeker.

"Are you ready love?" Kendall asked, threading his hand through mine and lightly squeezing my hand.

"Let's get this over with," I muttered just as the carriage door was opened. Alex was the first to step out, Kendall behind him before he assisted me.

We were greeted at the door by a guard who offered to take Kendall and I's jackets. I declined, but Kendall accepted, handing it over.

"Chef Alex," someone greeted and I turned to see another male standing there, his hands clasped in front of him formally. He was wearing the same formal, chef attire Alex was wearing.

"Chef Marco," Alex greeted, a smile on his face, and I couldn't resist my own smile.

"Miss Lady, this is Marco, my life partner," he murmured, and my smile widened as I shook Chef Marco's hand.

"It is a pleasure to finally meet you. Alex has told me a lot about you," I greeted, and he only nodded his head in acknowledgment.

"He is not social, I'm sorry Miss Lady," Alex apologized, a startled look on Marco's face as he attempted to figure out what he had done wrong.

"Love, we should be going into the dining room," Kendall called and I sighed, parting ways with the two of them reluctantly.

We were walked into the dining room, which was grand. It looked as if it was usually used for stunning parties, which I'd heard Calyx held more often than he should. However, the room currently only held a table large enough for six people.

Cayne was standing off to the side, talking with his parents. Calyx was already sitting at the table, a glass of clear liquid in his hand. I suppose that was a great way to distance yourself from the lecturing that would start soon.

Kendall's mother turned slightly, and caught the both of us. Her face turned down, and I knew today was going to go downhill from there.

"Please tell me you didn't bring her for the whole day," she said, and I gritted my teeth, already wanting to tear out her hair.

"Mother, do not start. I live my own life, and she is a part of it whether it pleases you or not," Kendall said easily, and put a hand on the small of my back before guiding me to our seats.

"I knew there was a reason I loved you," I said with a smile, catching his eyes roll at my comment. But I also caught amusement swimming in them.

Everyone sat at the table, myself sitting closest to Calyx. He caught my eyes with his worn down ones, greeting me by raising his glass. It was odd seeing this side of Calyx, the part of him that wasn't flirty. I didn't even know it existed until now.

"So I heard you punched your Protector," I said, unable to hide my smile at the thought of Calyx punching anyone.

He suddenly grimaced, holding up a bandaged hand. "Yeah, and a hell of good it did for me. All it did was anger a damn werewolf and bring all of you here. Not that I mind your company of course," He said, a grin slipping on his face. But it wasn't genuine. It seemed forced.

"There's my favorite Gordon," I teased, his eyes lighting up when Kendall cleared his throat.

"I am aware of every word Snowflake," Kendall started, sounding irritated.

"I don't remember asking," I started, waving him off. "So why'd you punch him? There's a nasty rumor it was because of a girl," I said, more eager than I should be to know if it was true. Perhaps Calyx had finally met someone even his ego couldn't compete with.

Calyx smirked and said, "Perhaps if you finally tell Kendall that you're actually in love with me I wouldn't have to go pretending to have interest in other women."

"Enough Calyx," Kendall said, sounding more angry than irritated. "I believe we are here to discuss your current behavior, not for you to flirt with my companion."

"Perhaps both of you should calm down," Cayne said from across me, his eyes on both his brothers.

"So how are your two guests Cayne? How is the girl, more specifically," Kendall's mom asked, looking at me as she asked the question.

Cayne opened his mouth to answer, but was interrupted by her. "Have you met her yet Snowflake? She quite a lovely lady, for someone who isn't human. Perhaps you can learn from her."

"Marlene," Kendall's dad grumbled, rubbing his temples.

"Well, it seems her lady-like charm hasn't worked on you," I murmured, and that's when it went into full chaos.

I didn't think it could get much worse, but leave it to Kendall to prove me wrong and make me question why I was with him.

"While we are all arguing, I thought I would share some news," he said when he thought no one was listening. My eyes widened, but I didn't get the chance to quiet him.

"Amaryllis and I are expecting children."

Just like that, the arguing descended and all eyes fell on me. "You bastard," I whispered, so angry I couldn't even look at him.

"This is a joke, right?" His mother asked, shock written on her face. However, I could spot the disgust in there that she didn't bother hiding.

"Did you think this through?" His father asked slowly, caution in his voice. "This could lead to trouble," he said softly.

"Children?" Clayx asked, picking this moment to include himself in. I closed my eyes, praying Kendall kept quiet. But everything was going against me.

"Triplets it turns out," he said, and just like that, the chaos started again.

"This could lead to war! Neither the human, or the werewolves are going to be thrilled with this."

"You just couldn't choose a lovely human, could you Kendall? You had to pick somene that would disgrace your family."

After that, I couldn't handle it anymore. I stood up and walked out, not bothering to check behind me. I ran out, and continued running until the cool air met my skin, comforting me.

"Snowflake!"

"You stay the hell away from me!" I growled, whirling around to face Kendall. "You promised me you bastard!"

"Love, it would have ended badly-" he started, his voice soft as if it would calm me down.

"I'm going home alone. If you follow, I'll leave you," I whispered, my nerves getting the best of me. I knew his parent wouldn't be thrilled with the thought of our children. What I hadn't considered was everyone else. Would our children be born into a world where two races wanted them dead?

"Love, I know you are upset but-"

"I'm serious Kendall. Stay the hell away for a few days, please," I said, finding my way into his arms. They wrapped tightly around me, his face buried into my shoulder.

"I am sorry love. I know what they said upset you, but I have taken it into consideration already. We knew that the world would not by happy with the two of us," he said, but for once, he wasn't soothing me.

"I'm sure Cayne won't mind if you spend the night with him," I said as I pulled away, taking my last ounce of strength with me.

"If you do not allow me to go home, I will take Alex with me," he teased, his voice desperate.

I gave him a weak smile. "Alex can go with you to Cayne's. He'll get time to spend with Marco," I replied, pressing my lips to his quickly.

"I love you Kendall, I promise I do. I just need to be alone," I said, and walked away.
