A Snowflake-Filled Christmas
Merry Christmas my Amaryllises and I hope you have a beautiful day and get what you desire and enjoy the rest of what's left of 2014!
The following scene takes place after the story but before the Epilogue
Kendall stared at me casually, as if he hadn’t just said the most ridiculous thing. He couldn’t possibly be serious. Even Kendall, the Gordon boy considered ‘icy’ couldn’t be that isolated from everything else.
“How have you never put up a Christmas tree?” I asked, my eyes narrowed and waiting for him to confess that he was lying for me.
He simply rolled his eyes, an amused light in his eyes. I’m glad one of us was finding this situation amusing. “Love, you have met my parents. Christmas was not a tradition, as they were always so busy with their work. I understood and did not mind.”
“I pity your children. They’ll hear about Christmas trees, and beg for one. But their Father will tell them no because he doesn’t know how to even decorate one,” I replied, causing Kendall to laugh.
“They will get a Christmas tree if that is what they desire. I may not find them practical, but I will not deprive my children of their holidays,” he explained and I gasped at his words.
“Not only have you never decorated a Christmas tree, but you think they’re impractical? I don’t think this is going to work out between us,” I said, shaking my head. A smile appeared when Kendall’s face lost its amusement.
He walked over to me from the bathroom, joining me on the bed. “Will you end your complaining if I request that a few of my guards find a Christmas tree?” He asked, reaching up and tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear.
I leaned into his touch, pursing my lips in thought. “I’ll consider it if you help me decorate it,” I said and Kendall sighed, looking up at the ceiling.
“If you’re thinking of an excuse, don’t bother. I already asked around and they told me you don’t have anyone to see today,” I remarked, grinning smugly when Kendall frowned once again.
“Alright love, you have won. I will help you unnecessarily decorate a tree that is bound to die shortly after,” he said and I laughed, pressing my forehead against his.
Kendall’s arm automatically wrapped around me and his lips lightly met mine. “See, was that so bad?” I asked, watching Kendall’s lips form into a smile.
“Go get a tree and decorations while I go convince Alex to join us, if he hasn’t already left to visit his family,” I said, leaning in for a quick kiss before I reluctantly left, beginning my search.
I decided to check his room first, although I wasn’t surprised when I found it empty. His things however, were still in it, waiting eagerly for Alex to return and pack them. I frowned, wondering why he had yet to pack.
I then went towards the kitchen, smelling the aromas before I was near it. I smiled faintly, opening the kitchen door, almost salivating at the wondrous smell. Of course, Alex was the mastermind behind it, whistling happily with his back turned towards me.
“Alex, what are you still doing here? I thought you told Kendall you were going home for the holidays,” I said, walking closer towards him.
He turned slightly, but never taking his full attention away from his food. “Miss Lady, I couldn’t leave without preparing you and Prince Gordon something for the next few days while I’m gone!” He exclaimed, as if doing so was equivalent to committing murder.
“We can cook our own food Alex. You’re going to miss your flight,” I said, laughing. Alex dipped a spoon in the food, offering it to me. I leaned in, tasting, and a smile bloomed on my face.
“It taste heavenly Alex. Now go,” I urged, but watched as Alex gave me a sheepish grin.
“I may have already missed my flight Miss Lady. But do not worry, as it only means I will spend the holidays with you!” He tried and I shook my head, crossing my arms at the same time.
“We’ll go see what Kendall can do,” I said, knowing if anyone could fix this, it was Kendall.
Unfortunately, not even Kendall was able to fix Alex’s problem. The only way Alex could get home was by plane, as it required crossing large bodies of water, and none were currently flying. Kendall tried persuading and even bribing them, but there wasn’t any readily available to bring Alex home on time.
“It is okay, Miss Lady. I will see them right after the holidays then. I suppose I can help decorate the tree then?” He said with a large smile. Kendall sighed, rubbing his head while I grinned.
“Of course Alex!”
“I need to control the rate at which the guards gossip.”
Alex and I talked for a while, and Kendall left, to yell at the guards I guess. In the end, Alex and I decided to dress up for the occasion, to make it special. So he left and I immediately went to Kendall’s dresser, looking for a nice suit.
I found a soft black one that had a tie to match and placed it on the bed, along with the dress pants. I browsed through his collared shirt and found a sharp red one that would look perfectly with it. I placed that on the bed, hoping Kendall would get the hint when he returned, before I went in search for my own clothes.
I took out a red dressed that matched the color of Kendall’s shirt. I quickly slid it on and headed towards the bathroom, looking in the mirror. It fit perfectly, the hem of the dress ending just above my knees. I started to tie the top, but saw Kendall standing in the doorway, watching.
“Why don’t you make yourself useful?” I said, lifting the two ends of the dress.
Kendall walked over, being sure to take his time. His eyes never left mine in the mirror, an amused smile on his face as always. I almost hated the way that smile was beginning to be the cause of my own, instead of being the cause of my annoyance as it once had been.
He pressed against my back, not bothering with personal space. I smiled, watching as he tied the ends, placing his lips on the showing skin. My eyes closed as I leaned into it, my smile widening. I would never get used to this.
I didn’t notice it until my eyes were open, but my necklace had been taken off and was dangling from Kendall’s hand, a smirk on his face. I frowned, making a grab for it, but Kendall snatched it away.
“Kendall-“
“You won’t need it tonight love.” Was all he said, annoying me. The necklace may have been a gift from him, but it didn’t give him the right to take it away.
He traced the words ‘for my Amaryllis’ that were inscribed in the necklace, a faint smile on his face before he turned and walked off with it.
“Kendall Valentino Gordon if you don’t give me my necklace right now…” I threatened, following him and leaving the rest of the sentence for his imagination.
I watched as he placed it in my jewelry box, only laughing at the threat. “Love, it will be safe in here for the night. Do you not trust me?” He asked, meeting my eyes once again.
“That doesn’t explain-“
"Do you trust me?” He asked once again. He was closer and had grabbed me by the waist, his other hand cupping my face. I looked into those blue eyes that were a universe of their own and knew the answer without a doubt.
“Of course,” I sighed, angry that I had to give in. I didn’t help when Kendall grinned smugly, happy to have won this time.
“That better be one damn magnificent Christmas tree,” I grumbled, walking out so Kendall could change into the suit.
I was told the tree was being place in the entrance of the palace, for all to see the second they walked in and through the large windows. I made my way there and was speechless by what I found.
Kendall has certainly found a Christmas tree. It was large, larger than any I’d ever had growing up. Not only that, but its cider scent filled the room, bringing Christmas early. The pines stood straight, awaiting the ornaments that surrounding the tree on the ground, waiting to be placed in their spots. Never again would I underestimate Kendall’s ability to please me.
What was even more surprising than the tree was what was next to it. I didn’t know whether to be thrilled or annoyed.
“I heard you guys were decking a Christmas tree so I decided I didn’t want to miss the fun. Aren’t you glad? I know you missed me,” Calyx asked, wiggling his eyebrows. I rolled my eyes at him, snorting.
“I’ll decide that after the night’s ended,” I replied, my eyes widening as the palace doors opened and others walked in.
“What about the fact that I invited everyone else?” He asked as Cayne, Lex, and Raelynn marveled over the tree.
“Leave it to my brother to reach above and beyond for his Snowflake.”
“Why didn’t you do that?”
“How was I supposed to find a tree like that? Kendall didn’t even find it himself!”
I laughed as Alex entered, joining in. It was truly turning into a memorable night, much more than I had expected. Everyone I loved was here, and I couldn’t wish for more.
“Do not flatter yourself. You only came at the chance to flirt with my love,” a voice behind me said, not amused by his brother’s antics.
“I don’t see a ring on her finger. That means she’s still up for grabs,” Calyx said and the rest of the group groaned.
I laughed right before arms went around me, pulling me into a firm chest. I turned slightly, meeting his eyes. “Thank you Kendall. You’re amazing, you know that?” I whispered, loving the way his face lit up.
“Anything for my Snowflake,” he said softly before he pulled away.
“I know it is now Christmas yet, but I did not see a sufficient reason to wait,” he murmured, digging through his pockets. He’d put on the suit and it had looked better than I’d imagined.
He pulled his hand out of his pocket, a small box joining it. He smiled as he handed it to me, saying, “Merry Christmas love.”
I opened the box hesitantly, and gasped at what was inside, a wide smile forming.
Inside lay a silver necklace that sparkled and winked at me. There was a blue bead attached that matched the exact color of Kendall’s eyes. But the star or the necklace, the piece that caught its audience’s eyes, was the beautiful snowflake.
“It’s beautiful Kendall,” I said quietly, knowing my voice would break if I spoke much louder.
He took it out gently and motioned for me to turn. “Do you now see why I wanted you to leave the necklace?” He teased, his hand brushing my skin as he latched the necklace.
I turned, wrapping my arms around his neck, knowing I wouldn’t want to be this intimate with anyone else. “I love you Kendall,” I said, watching his face glow, pride in his eyes.
“And I you, my Snowflake,” he easily replied before his lips met mine.
