A Darling New Year's
Think of a better title for this chapter and I'll dedicate it to you. ;) This is set before Property and is a Scarlan chapter. I hope you all enjoy it though!
I watched from the doorway, waiting for him to notice me. He'd been preoccupied in the kitchen for quite some time now, and it was starting to get boring.
He had told me that we would be spending our holidays together at his house, the one he rarely let me stay in. Judging by the food he was making, we would be spending it in his apartment instead. I couldn't say I was surprised though, since he wasn't a fan of spending much time there anyways.
Nolan was concentrating hard on the food he was preparing, making sure he was putting in just the right amount of ingredients. I fought back a smile, knowing he usually didn't care so much about his food.
I finally cleared my throat, tiring of the game. He looked up, his amber eyes refocusing on me. I watched as they slowly travelled down my red dress, sending a shiver down my spine before travelling back up, a smirk appearing.
"You look stunning, darling. I wasn't expecting you for another hour," he said, straightening up before walking over to me.
I smiled, loving the buttoned down shirt and slacks he wore. I wasn't a fan of formal clothing, so I was lucky if I could get him out of his faded clothes. He had deemed today special enough and I was grateful for that.
"You don't look too bad yourself, sweetheart," I replied right before he pulled me to him and kissed me.
I could feel him deepen the kiss, his grip around my waist tightening as he pressed me against the doorframe. His hand travelled along my spine, my breath hitching at the feeling. It wasn't long before his tongue found mine, everything else forgotten.
He suddenly pulled away, and a growl slipped from my mouth. He laughed at the sound, pressing his lips against mine for a moment more before pulling away all together. "Bastard," I snapped, watching as he went back to his food.
"What kind of impression would I be making if I allow you to eat burnt lasagna, my flower? Not a very good one," he explained, putting on the finishing touches before finally placing it in the oven. I huffed, walking out of the room.
"Don't ruin our day because you cannot take my teasing," he called, laughing at the end. I flipped him off, knowing he couldn't see it. It did, however, make me feel slightly less irritated at him.
I went to the living room, perching myself on the back of the couch. His television was off along with the light, but there were several candles lit and soft music playing in the background. It was like it was Valentine's Day, not New Year's.
I could hear his footsteps coming in my direction but I didn't bother looking over. I would ignore him for a few more moments until he gave me a proper apology.
I felt him sit on the couch before silence enveloped us. I started to turn and snap at him for not saying anything, but I found myself yelling instead when he yanked me back, and I fell off the back of the couch and onto him.
"I swear Nolan—" I started, but his laughter drowned out my words before he kissed me again. Just like that, I forgot why I was upset with him.
"You just can't get enough of me," he purred, pushing my hair behind my ear. I rolled my eyes, scoffing, before laying more comfortably on him, my head against his chest. I could hear his heart beating, speeding up when my hand travelled under his shirt, skimming over his torso.
"You were supposed to have something planned for today," I told him, frowning. Knowing him, he had planned something and it involved his bed.
"I did plan something, my darling flower. But I had planned for it to be done at here," he replied and I sat up slightly to glance at him.
"Are you proposing to me, Nolan?" I teased, knowing it was nothing that serious. I was lucky he hadn't skipped town and left me yet. However, he was lucky I hadn't done the same to him.
"The day I propose to you is the day I have realized I've given up on life," he tossed back, a smirk on his face. I hit his chest, muttering.
"The day I say yes is the day I've given up on everyone on this entire planet," I replied, sighing when his hand began running through my hair. We stayed like that for a few moments before he decided to interrupt it.
He wrapped his arms around me, sitting us both up on the couch. I started to protest, but he hushed me. He was now sitting down on the couch while I was in his lap. I started to get up, but he was quick to wrap his arms around me, securing me there.
"I have something to say, and if you get up, you won't ever hear it, Amaryllis," he threatened, getting a smirk from me. It was something good if he was doing this.
"You better not be pulling a joke on me," I said, turning around so that I could see his face. He appeared as calm as always, but I could see the worry in his eyes. My smirk disappeared, worry settling in me.
"Nothing is wrong, darling. I had planned to tell you during dinner, but we both know how impatient you are," he said, joking lightly. I opened my mouth to tell him he wasn't the most patient person himself, but he started talking.
"I wanted to tell you today so that perhaps this upcoming year will have meaning. Perhaps it will be our year. This year has been your year and my year, but I am hoping that we can change that," he started, already confusing me.
"I have been with many women, flower, but none have captivated my attention as you have. They cannot hold themselves up to your beauty or your personality. You are the only women I have had something somewhat serious with, and I am hoping we can continue doing this. I am not ready to lose you quite yet."
His face had turned serious, his eyes holding a look I had long ago learned was only meant for me. It was something that got to me every time, something I tried to see every day that I was with him. I smiled, running my thumb along his cheek.
"Amaryllis, my darling flower, I have fallen in love with you," he said, taking the air out of the room. I could feel myself freezing at the words, unable to believe he had just said them. I had thought I would've been the first to say it out of the two of us.
"Darling? A response of sorts would be appropriate right now," he said, his voice tensing more and more with each word as if expecting rejection.
"Nolan, I . . ." I started, my voice hesitant. Something flashed through his eyes before he cleared his expression, gently placing me on the couch and standing up.
"I think it is best we pretend I did not say anything, is it not?" He said, his voice without emotion. I frowned, my anger building.
"Nolan, you didn't—"
"I'm going to step outside for a moment," he said, heading towards the door. I growled, running after him and slamming the door shut the moment he opened it.
"Dammit, Nolan, let me speak!" I snapped, startling him. I crossed my arms against my chest, standing in front of the door so that he couldn't make a run for it.
"I get that you're new to this whole emotions and relationship thing, but when you tell someone you love them, you have to give them a chance to respond," I said angrily, my voice softening immediately after.
"Had you let me finished, you might've heard me tell you that I love you too," I said, and without wasting a second, he pulled me to him, crushing me against his chest.
"Again," he whispered, pressing his lips against mine before looking at me expectantly like a child. I laughed, his delight spreading to me.
"Again?" I teased, laughing again when he nipped my nose, growling lowly.
"I love you," I whispered, receiving a kiss in response.
"Again," he said and I rolled my eyes, smiling.
"I am very much in love with you, Nolan," I said before he kissed me once more, our year together starting early.
