Chapter Thirty Four

I will be doing a story for each Gordon boy!

Chapter Thirty Four

"And how exactly did you get permission to stay here?"

Nolan's room was decent for someone who was only staying temporarily, better than the guards' rooms. It didn't out beat mine or anything, but it was really nice for someone who didn't respect Kendall.

"It's part of the perks, darling. I show him my good side while I stay and get this room," Nolan replied, sprawled out on the bed.

I sat on the edge, studying him. "What kind of deals did you make with Kendall?" I asked casually, but Nolan gave me a knowing smile.

"Are you afraid it had something to do with you? You have yet to capture everyone with your temptation," Nolan murmured, closing his eyes.

I slid down on the bed, resting my head on his shoulder. I pushed down the collar of his thin shirt slightly, my finger tracing the Amaryllis that bled on the right side of his chest, a pattern I had memorized a long time ago. "You did," I replied, and he smirked.

"Yes, and I'm reminded of it every day after a shower," Nolan said, his eyes still closed. This was the side of him I missed. It was the carefree side that decided to daringly get a tattoo for me one late evening.

"Why didn't you get it removed?" I asked. I wouldn't have kept it if our positions were changed.

"Because it was a daily reminder that somewhere out in the world, there was a flower infatuated by me, not my looks or charm. It reminds me that there's a girl that can put me under her spell with the simplest smile," he said softly, his eyes now open.

I smiled in return, causing his fingers to graze my lips. "Ah, there it is, that captivating smile," he whispered, making me pull away abruptly.

Nolan was making it difficult for me to remember why we would never work out. He could charm anyone, but right now, he wasn't using that charm. I could easily detect the difference.

This was just Nolan, nothing else. It was him speaking without realizing the effect his words had on me. He was only answering my question, yet I was forgetting about a few important things, including Kendall.

"The items for tomorrow night are in the top drawers," Nolan said lazily, but I wasn't fooled. I knew he'd been watching me ever since I'd pulled away.

I stood up and went towards the drawers, grateful for any distraction. I opened them and found a folded uniform taking up its own drawer. I closed it and focused on the other, which held a pair of regularly shaped keys and a thick chain that was attached to a steel collar only a key could open.

I grinned excitedly, turning towards Nolan. "This means I'm in charge, right? I mean, you are going to be in a collar and everything. And I could accidentally lock you in one of those cells if you decide to press my buttons," I said, watching with satisfaction as his eyes narrowed and he let out a growl.

I made a tsking sound, enjoying this moment too much. "Don't test me, sweetheart. I'm a very forgetful person," I said, causing his growl to subside, but his eyes were still narrowed.

I just grinned, sending him a wink. "I have to go. Be a good boy while I'm gone and I won't forget about you tomorrow," I said, laughing softly as the door cut off his snarl.

Nolan and I had decided that sooner was better than later for the escape plan and that tomorrow was perfect. Tomorrow, there were no special events or official meetings. So the guards wouldn't pay extra attention to everything, and I had nowhere particular to be.

We'd already scouted the area and found out what time Lance would put his wolf up for the day. We planned to enter, knock him out, and then proceed to place him in one of the cells. I felt guilty for it, but I wouldn't stop just to keep from knocking one guy out.

Before placing him in the cell, Nolan would shift and take his clothes. I would begin opening the cells, and Nolan would lead them out by some back way he'd found. How he knew there was a back way, I wasn't sure. But I didn't plan on asking him anytime soon.

I would follow them out, still in uniform. Unfortunately, I couldn't shift because they would probably recognize me too easily. I was the first female Protector with a coat of winter white fur. I would have to be stupid to think they wouldn't notice me.

Nolan and I would then regroup as the guards ran after the wolves, hopefully blending in with them. If we made it, we would quickly find a way back in while the chaos still stirred. They would undoubtedly check everyone after.

I would shift and find Kendall while Nolan got rid of the suits and went his own way. If anyone were to ask, I was with Nolan in his room when it all happened. His room wasn't near the Indoor Stables, so it was plausible for us not to react immediately to the incident.

The plan wasn't near foolproof and was left open for a multitude of things to go horribly wrong, but it was better than what I had before. It also eased me some to know that I had Nolan watching my back. It made me feel somewhat safer, in a way.

"Snowflake, would you come here for a moment?"

I don't know how, but during my walk, I'd passed Kendall. I turned back around and saw him standing there with Lex and another woman. I narrowed my eyes but walked over to them, making sure to stand between Kendall and the woman.

She was stunning to any eye, but it was only the human one that would be fooled. Her scent reeked of death and whatever potions witches brewed nowadays. The scent was so strong I wrinkled my nose, wondering how old she was.

"Snowflake, this is Valeria. She personally works with Lillith, who requested my attention. She is also the one who charmed your necklace," Kendall explained, and I gave her a smile.

"This is my lovely Protector, Snowflake," he added, and I could hear the pride ringing in his voice.

She grinned and said, "I've heard all about you and your heroic ways. Allow me to be one of the first to say that your nickname is very fitting. I'm not sure how a skinny thing protects a man like Kendall."

My smile disappeared within a fraction of a second as I growled. I started towards her, but an arm wrapped around me and pulled me to a chest.

"I will speak with her, love; it will not happen again. Not everything needs to be resolved by fighting," Kendall whispered, but his words didn't soothe me.

"You take care of the witch or I gladly will," I warned, seeing the shock in Valeria's eyes at my blunt words.

I pulled away from Kendall and walked off, fuming. The next time I saw her, I would make sure she got a taste of the medicine her boss deserved by ripping her throat out. Then, I might just be a tab bit happier.

"Snowflake, wait!" Lex called, but I didn't bother slowing down. I could hear his expensive shoes hitting the ground until he was eventually by my side and out of breath.

"Let's slow down and catch our breaths, shall we?" He suggested as he pulled meby my arm to a stop. I watched with amusement as he leaned against the wall and took in gulps of air.

"Someone's in need of a workout," I teased, but instead of bickering, Lex gave me a grin, magically recovering.

"What do you suggest? Perhaps the personal workout you gave Kendall? It seemed to do wonders for him," Lex said dramatically.

I narrowed my eyes, some of my anger transferring towards him. "What are you talking about?" I asked, but today really wasn't my day. Lex wasn't going to back down when he was already ahead.

"Oh, you know exactly what I'm referring to. The guards just can't seem to stop gossiping about the sounds that came from Kendall's room. They've even placed bets on who the mysterious woman is," Lex answered, and I didn't even bat an eye.

"So? Kendall's a Prince. He has a land filled with girls who would be willing to do anything just to share his bed with him," I said with a shrug, but the words didn't halt Lex like I wanted them to.

Lex continued grinning, glad he was winning whatever game we were playing. "Just now, Kendall grabbed you by the waist and pulled you to him. He never grabs anyone by the waist, only the arm. It's the same for both male and female. So that brings me to the conclusion that you've slept with Kendall," he finished.

I opened my mouth, but I couldn't produce a response fast enough. I growled in frustration while Lex cheered, his grin only widening.

"You're a nuisance," I snapped childishly, but he only laughed.

"Yeah, you screwed him alright. Looks like I'm getting my money and some back," he said, rubbing his fingers together, and my eyes widened.

"You bastard! You bet on me?" I yelled, and Lex snorted at the question that was just so clearly beneath him.

"I'd be stupid not to, Snowflake. You're great and all, but money's better," he said and I huffed.

"Some friend you are," I muttered, causing Lex to snicker.

"If it makes you feel better, you're second place," he tried, and I only crossed my arms. How in the world was that supposed to make me feel better?

"Who's first?" I asked curiously, and Lex lost his smile.

"Raelynn," he said sulkily and this time, I was the one laughing in his face.

An arm snaked around my waist then, causing my laughter to cease when I realized who it was. "What is so funny?" Kendall asked while Lex waggled his eyebrows at us.

"Lex's girlfriend is in first place for the bet on who screwed you," I said, and Lex didn't look near as amused as I felt while Kendall just looked confused.

"And I'm still mad at you," I snapped, slapping Kendall's hand away from me before I decided it was time to call it a night and walked off.

Kendall said quick parting words to Lex before he went to catch up with me much more smoothly than Lex had.

"What have I done this time?" He asked, sounding annoyed and completely clueless. I wanted to laugh at him and his puppy-like quality but instead kept a straight face.

"Your new friend is what you've done," I said and heard his sigh but didn't bother to look.

"Valeria is but a mere assistant for a client. She is not even considered an acquaintance, love," Kendall said gently and I frowned.

"Keep trying, Gordon boy; none of that made me any less mad at you," I teased and saw him wince at the nickname I'd picked up from Nolan.

"Let me understand this. When I was angry at your relationship with Nolan, I was in the wrong. However, when you are angry at me for conversing with another female, you are in the right," Kendall said slowly as if attempting not to confuse himself.

We were now at our rooms and I was opening my door as I said, "I'm glad you're starting to understand how our relationship is going to work," right before closing the door in his face.

I took a shower before sliding on some comfortable clothes and padding back to my room. Stretched out like a cat, shirtless and in what looked like silk bottoms, was Kendall who gave a smile when he saw me.

"Have you come to your senses?" He asked, patting the empty space beside him.

"Yes, I came to my senses-" I started, climbing on the bed and pressing close to Kendall, my lips planting a kiss on his chest. "-and decided if I ever see the two of you alone, I'm going to kill her, dump your ass, and then kill you," I finished, looking up in time to see those pale blue orbs roll around.

"Go to sleep," he said, his chest rumbling with faint laughter. I grinned, turning around and pulling up the covers.

"Goodnight, love," Kendall whispered, pulling me even closer and leaving his arm around me.

"Goodnight, kitty cat," I replied, feeling his lips on my hair before I fell asleep with a small smile on my face.
