Villages have to give stuff to the giants each season for them not to be destroy.
Each family has to give something that means something to them, or something that has value.

One season the Giants go to collect the gifts and find a small human child.
They where angry at first, why would a human sacrifice their child-?!
But then with one look at the child they became attached.

They raise the child in the castle (its a castle- because castle) the human quickly becoming part of their family.

They have rules set for him though so he doesn't get hurt:

no walking on the floor (you would get crushed-)
Always make sure someone knows where you are
