2020 Tag!!!

Hey, y'all!!! It's been a while. A little update from my disappearance: I finished two Associate's Degrees for Political Science and History. Next month, I am transferring to a university to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. I'm super excited about the transition!!! I have also been working a lot, especially during the quarantine. Also, I did have more ideas and motivation to continue writing In the Mist. So, hopefully, I can finish a chapter by next month :):):)

Anyway... On to the tag!!!

Earlier this month, @Alleny-Reads2002 sent me a tag that is pretty interesting. Here's the prompt:

...

So, here's my take on it:

I was 10 years old in 2010. Now, I'm 19.

Yes, I did my math right. I'm almost 20. The big two zero. My birthday is in a few weeks, yay!!!

What is/was... Your favorite book?

2010: The Warriors series. My friends at the time were really into this series, so I read them to "fit in." I did enjoy the series, don't get me wrong. But I know I would not have read it otherwise because the books were soooo long. It was about four clans of outdoor cats: FireClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan, and WindClan. Their backstories fascinated me the most, which might partially be why I have intricate backstories for most of my characters.

I probably did enjoy reading the Rainbow Magic series more. It was about different themed fairies, like Sky the Blue Fairy and Trixie the Halloween Fairy. My 10-year-old mind loved imagination. I can't remember if I read that series when I was 10 or if I was younger. I think I did read it throughout elementary school.

2020: I'm going to sound super duper lame for saying this. I don't read for fun that much, so my favorite book is one of my textbooks. Hush!!! Hear me out. As a college student, I read many, many textbooks. If you don't read, you'll fail college. I definitely could not read the textbooks in grade school and still ace my classes. College is different. I enjoyed my Multicultural Psychology and Women's History textbook the most. Multicultural/Cross-Cultural Psychology opened my eyes about racism, sexism, inequity, inequality, injustice, and so much more. I have never identified with my heritage more. I can see racism and sexism more clearly now that the bubble I've been living in has popped. I understand why I feel the way I do when I was in a new place with the majority of a different ethnicity. It is important to recognize race rather than being colorblind. I have been trying to improve my German to acquire more traits of my ethnicity because it was lost through assimilation. My maternal great-grandfather made sure my grandmother spoke the languages of her neighbors and German at home. Since they live in Texas, she learned English and Spanish. That influenced me to want to learn the languages of my friends' ethnic backgrounds (Spanish, Punjabi, and Mandarin) because it's important to me. There's more to Multicultural Psychology, but I don't want to ramble on for too long.

The Women's History textbook showed me women's (mainly American) contributions to history that I had no idea about because the history in grade focuses on European American men, more wealthy than working class. List all the women that you remember learning about. Mine would be: Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Florence Nightingale, Rosa Parks, some First Ladies maybe, Cleopatra, Elizabeth II. It's pitiful. How many Americans know about the WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) who were significant in World War II and were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by the U.S. Congress under the Obama administration. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Lucy Burns, Alice Paul, Carrie Chapman Catt, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, and the other countless suffragists, NSWA/NAWSA members, and the National Women's Party who fought for women suffrage so women like me can now vote. I loved learning about women's history, but (going back to recognizing sexism) I shouldn't have to take a class just to learn about women. It should already be incorporated into general history textbooks.

Well, that was longer than expected... Onto the next question

Your favorite TV show?

2010: I think I was watching Cartoon Network and maybe PBS kids. Martha Speaks?

2020: NCIS is up there and I like New Girl. Actually, my favorite might be the HBO series about John Adams or these two documentary series we watched in my California history class called Latino Americans and The Untold History of the United States. Okay, I know they're not "TV shows," but they have episodes so it counts. I'm just admitting I barely have a life outside of school lol

Your favorite book character?

2010: A cat from the Warrior series I mentioned earlier. I remember a Leafpelt and Yellowfang. There were probably other ones, but I do know those two had traits and backgrounds that stood out to me.

2020: I didn't mention this, but the 2050 series by my good friend @GoldenPen_ will always have a place in my heart. Shemik is my all time favorite character. I need to reread the series lol

I have some favorite characters that I will write about in In the Mist, but that's secret stuff. :P

Your favorite tv character?

2010: I guess Martha if I guessed the TV show right. I don't know if I did have any favorite characters though.

2020: Ziva from NCIS is probably my favorite. I do have some issues with her character and how she was casted, but overall, she's a strong, independent female character and that's why she's my favorite.

Your favorite number?

2010: 13 because my birthday is on the thirteenth.

2020: 13. So easy. I haven't changed lol

Your favorite activity?

2010: Drawing

2020: Hanging out with my friends. I loved spending time with my friends, it makes me so happy. When I was younger, I was more independent and my "friends" were not really my friends. My family didn't even like them because they were really rude, but I didn't know what to do about it. Thankfully, I found my best friend in middle school :):):)

Now tag people to see how much they know about their past self!
