• Chapter 10: A Memory •

Even if I did ask Papyrus about his brother, I doubt that it'll be able to answer the weird questions bubbling in my head.

"Yeah....sure...."

"How's the spaghetti going paps?" I asked, fixing the apron I wore.

"IT'S BETTER THAN EVER!" he exclaimed, tasting the spaghetti sauce with the wooden spoon. The sauce emitted a fragrant aroma and it was making me twice as hungry.

Papyrus isn't hard to teach at all.

The sudden clatter of the spoon earned a small squeak from the tall cook.

If you're patient enough, he's such a sweetheart.

"IT'S PIPING HOT! BE CAREFUL AND USE THOSE POT HOLDERS TINY HUMAN." he hummed, giving me a spare.

"OK, if you're finished, mind helping me with these cookies and pies?" I asked, giggling at his sense of optimism.

"NO PROBLEM HUMAN! " he proudly stated.

Sans is really lucky to have a sweet brother like him, I sighed, watching him stirring the still chunky bits of sauce.

Papyrus is never hard to get along with and that's a proven fact. He always makes sure that I don't feel any less comfortable around him, it's really sweet of him.

While minding our own masterpiece creations, he often breaks the ice about how annoying his brother can be. I can't help but giggle and snort at the series of PUNderful events in the skele-household.

He rants about them most of the time but deep within his soul, I can still feel how affectionate he is to Sans.

They only have each other now.

They should always be there for each other;

but I feel bad, knowing that Sans has to take the burden to protect his younger brother.

'I hope that he can still lift up his spirits behind that masked face of his.'

"NYEHEHE! I'M SURE YOU AND UNDYNE WOULD BE THE BEST OF FRIENDS! " Papyrus claimed, haphazardly fishing a big plate from the cupboard.

"BUT NO ONE CAN EVER GET PAST THIS GREAT SKELETON'S FRIENDSHIP METER! NO ONE!" The plates clattered on the table and left a slight pang in my ears as his ever booming voice blasted.

"Undyne...?" I barely whispered, jolted from the way he raises his voice, happily.

The sound of their name repeatedly rung into my head but the mere sight and memory of them was unknown. Their name had a chilling effect on me, maybe its because I never heard of a new name in awhile in the underground.

I've heard and met nothing but only Sans, Papyrus, Grillby Toriel and-

Flowey.

That sadistic Flower still plagues my memory, especially his blood curdling laughter. I shivered at the thought.

After that real nightmare, I hopefully wished that I would never cross paths with anything like him nor him ever again.

"OH, SHE'S THE CAPTAIN OF THE ROYAL GUARD! SHE IS THE ONE WHO TAUGHT ME HOW TO COOK THIS SPECTACULAR SPAGHETTI!" He eagerly puffed his chest as excitement rushed all over his face with pure adoration.

Undyne seems to be a nice person but that wouldn't be enough to prove that she really is one. I wouldn't like to doubt Papyrus that he's lying but after that psychotic flower encounter yesterday, my anxiety reached its peak.

'Keeping my guards up anytime is the only safest measure I can do.'

"I presume she's one good tutor, coz she taught you well." I added, hopping to sit near the sink.

His cheekbones flared up from my compliment and smiled widely.

"NYEHEHEH! OF COURSE, BECAUSE I AM THE GREAT PAPYRUS AFTER ALL!" he proudly stated, puffing his chest in a heroic way.

It was cute.

How could someone even resist this pure cinnamon roll?

I laughed in response.

"Indeed! Ow-

I flinched, hissing from the excruciating pain that hit me. The pain was unbearable and it came again this second time around.

I thought I was fully healed??

It has been awhile since I fell down here.

I gripped my head tighter when the stinging sensation grew from worse to worst as Papyrus's voice echoed in the background.

"HUMAN?! ARE YOU ALRIGHT?!" His voice faltered as well as my vision that faded into his worrisome face.

"SANS!!" was all I heard before I totally lost it.

"Oh, look at what we have here!~" A boy approached me with a menacing smirk on his face.

"Its the freak's sister!" One of his gang members snickered, as they all surrounded me in a threatening way.

"Stop bullying my sister! She's not a freak!" I reprimanded and growled, barely keeping myself from shivering in fear but I stood on my ground.

The tall boy gave side ways glances to each of his friends and they all roared with laughter.

I felt nothing but be weak and ashamed as their sickening laughs haunted my mind. I never regretted standing up for her because its the right thing to do so I still tried my best to look immune from hearing their words.

I can't take it any longer to see how sad she is everyday when she arrives home. She felt cold and barely even talked to me nor our parents.

Every time I tried to talk to her, she just pushes me away or ignores the fact that I'm right there.

Now that I've heard how these guys kept harassing her and kicking her around, I've never wasted this opportunity to stand up for her.

"Speechless are you? Everyone knows that she is a freak and a sister's freak is also one useless piece of sh**!" The boy laughed maniacally as they threw punches and kicks at me.

I struggled to stay strong, fighting back was never an option and I knew of that. Kicks and punches were thrown all over my body.

I closed my eyes shut, taking everything they threw on me till I can't endure the pain any longer.

I scurried away, barely keeping the right steps as they shouted and hunted me into the woods.

"Find her!" I heard them, their voices echoing around me. A batch of stray tears flooded down alongside the sweat on my face, making my heart thump louder than it should be.

My vision started to fuzz as I delved deeper into the woods, ignoring the stinging pain spreading throughout my body.

I was in terrible pain.

Tired, Confused, and most of all

Scared

I know, it was pathetic but being hurt is the least of my worries right now and stopping now wouldn't treat me any good.

The sky got darker and darker by the minute and I still ran for my life, dearly wishing that this dilemma would end soon.

"Frisky~ come out! We're not finished playing with you yet!" The familiar voice cackled.

I gulped catching my ragged breath. My eyes darted everywhere, trying to find the nasty voice's silhouette.

A cold hand dragged me behind the bushes. I squeaked when they silenced my mouth shut as he held me down close.

I paled, but the stranger shushed me quiet.

Adrenaline rushed within me as I stayed still with conflicted emotions.

This isn't the kind of saving I wished for earlier but thankfully, the gang of bullies gave up as they murmured incoherent words that faded deeper into the woods.

"Hey are you alright?" was the first thing he asked.

The voice was a little deep but I figured that he's not far from my age.

I sighed as he removed his grasp from my mouth.

"Y-yeah, thanks for saving me." I politely said, brushing my tears away.

"No probs."

His hooded figure prevented me from seeing his facial features as well as his hands which were oddly gloved.

I decided not to question why he's dressed up like that since it sounded rude.

"You better stay out'ta trouble next time, coz I won't be there to save you." He causally said, offering a hand to help me up on my feet.

I smiled at his friendly nature and took his hand.

"Sorry for being a bother..." I chuckled nervously.

"I just got furious and all, coz they're picking on my sis." I muttered.

He seemed to nod slightly as he looked at me up and down.

"Do you know your way back? You're wounded pretty badly right there." he asked with a hint of worry in his voice.

My cheeks flushed in embarrassment and I decided to wave off his comment despite knowing he's right.

"I'm fine thank you." Plucking the leaves out of my hair, I looked up and saw how dark its starting to get.

I frowned, collecting my thoughts on how would I be able to know my way back home through the dark night.

My parents are gonna be dead worried of me.

"I'm afraid not." I muttered.

"Well, the street's just a short walk away. That's the only shortcut outta here." He offered, pointing afar.

Noticing how walking all alone in a dark forest scared me. Shrill cries of bats and howls echoed in my mind making me gulp, So I asked him.

"Can you take me there..?" He seemed to grin under that hood of his and I got flustered.

"Sure thingo, amigo" And with that, we started to walk. I was walking alongside him and embarrassing it is to say, I kept a close distance to him whenever I hear something that rustles by the trees.

He chuckles at my shaky self and reassures. 'That's just the wind.'

Of course that killed me in the inside, showing how I easily jump my socks off to total stranger.

As we walked into the forest, he started a casual chat that I got interested in. Sooner, we started to share each other's funny experiences as they started to turn into a joke or pun war.

I never thought that I would be warm enough to like this guy and it felt nice.

It was as if having an older brother.

"You know, you should get used of my jokes, coz you'll be hearing them FOREST of the time" he joked.

"That was really humorous." I spiffed up a giggle and he laughed.

It went on like that, either me or him telling a joke then we'd be laughing in response.

Admitting this was insane but he tickled my funny bone the most from all the people I've met. They were absolutely no match to this walking joke book.

It was starting to dim and the sky was painted in a deep orange and red color.

The shortcut he was saying ended up longer than I thought it would.

It was hard to ignore on how weird he was dressed and to why he conceals himself from me, it was as if he's attending a Halloween party by the way his attire gives me that chilling shiver.

"See what you like, ey?" I blushed, tearing my eyes away from the glances I've been giving him.

"T-thanks." I croaked, absentmindedly.

He was silent as we approached a small clearing, just before the streets came into view.

"I've never met someone this thankful for just dragging them into the bushes and sharing the laughs with me but as I have said, no problem." He said, amusement present in his voice.

"So,I'll head back home now...." I waved before taking a step but he stopped me.

"Wait!" he held my hand. A wave of heat sprawled across my cheeks.

"Before you go, I want to show you something."

I was stumped, thinking whether to go or not but I have this feeling that accepting his request wouldn't harm me anyway so.

"Ok, But only for awhile, my parents would be worried." I explained.

And we walked into the woods again, this time, with me trailing behind.

"Where are we going?" I nervously asked, as the light left a faint glow on the sky.

He only pulled me and gestured me behind the leaves, completely shushing me from my uncertainties.

"Wow..." I gazed in awe at the beautiful scene, he chuckled.

"I come by this place before I head home. Its just relaxing." he said as he plopped down near the cliff's edge.

"This is amazing!" I beamed, gazing at the wonderful view of the sunset complimenting the city.

I sat beside him and stared wide eyed at the breathtaking view of the sunset.

The city never got this kind of view where you would definitely see everything, even from where my house stood, the view was nothing compared to this.

"You know, I wish that I could always see this view." he sighed, catching me from the daze.

"Why do you say so?" I asked, staring at his still hooded figure. Even the sun didn't help me see underneath his face.

"Well, we might not last long here." he stated as his head hung low.

"Huh? I don't understand." I eyed him, confused of his choice of words.

"Forget what I said." He sighed, as his sad voice started to dissipate.

"I know we started off farther than a simple conversation awhile ago, so lemme start again."

"What's your name?"

I snorted.

Well isn't that hilarious.

Without hesitation, I beamed.

"The name's frisk!"

" So Frisk huh? Its been nice gnawing you!" he joked once more, making my grin stretch even wider.

" M y n a m e i s...."

»*****«

I woke up surrounded by two familiar faces.

" OH HUMAN, I THOUGHT WE'VE LOST YOU!" papyrus squealed,in a bone crushing hug.

I nearly flinched.

"glad you're awake kiddo, paps here has been crying his eyesockets out for hours." sans said, as he sat down the bed beside me.

I scoffed, hearing that nickname all over again but he didn't seem to take notice.

"NYOOHOOHOO! DON'T YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN HUMAN!" papyrus cried, hugging me tighter.

"I promise, I won't." I forced a smile, the air getting sucked out of me as Papyrus didn't let me go.

"WELL THEN, I'LL GET YOU SOME SPAGHETTI TO LIGHTEN YOU UP." papyrus said, running downstairs, leaving me and Sans behind.

Sans' expression changed by the time Papyrus left, he grew more serious from the way I heard his deep voice.

"so what happened? paps called me when you passed out."

"I-i'm not sure...." I mumbled.

I don't really remember what happened...

The only thing I knew was that I passed out and...

...

...

I had a dream.

"I think I hit my scar accidentally on the cupboard, and I had a dream...?" I mused, as it came out like a question more than an answer.

But it feels different than any ordinary dream...

It was as if I were in it and I experienced it.

Weird but it felt real?

"Or was it a memory....i guess?" I pondered, biting my lip.

Sans sat at the edge of the bed and his white pinpricks narrowed. He looked bothered and interested at the same time by the way he took short glances at me and averts them away when I take notice.

It bothered me.

"Sans? Are you o-"

"whoa, don't strain yourself, rest for awhile, we'll talk bout that tomorrow." He covered it up quickly and gestured me to lay back in bed.

"But how about the party? Paps' spaghe-

" shh, there'll be no party, I'll explain everything to paps." he gave me a reassuring tap by my shoulder.

"he'll understand."

I tensed up from his touch and nodded.

"rest" he whispered, before closing the door behind him.

A dream or a memory?

The question echoed back in my head repetitively as I tried to sleep.

I tossed and turned, trying to get back to where it left off but to no avail.

I groaned in frustration and stared into the dark spacious room.

If it was really a dream then how come I get to feel something familiar about it?

Was it just my imagination?

That guy in my dream....

Why was his image blurred up in my mind like a badly taken photo?

Everything about it was oddly familiar...

Are...

Are my memories finally resurfacing back into my mind?

It would be an interesting fact, knowing that i'm finally remembering something about my past.

But...

They still aren't enough to answer all my questions.

If it is truly a memory then...

I have a sister

And

I met a familiar guy.

A sister whom I've forgotten...

And a person whom I didn't get to recognize...

But where?

Where might they be now?

That was a memory...

A memory i had from the surface...

A memory about my childhood...

A memory that I had with a friend...
