Chapter-16
**Together Forever**
In life, many a time you fall short of words when you find yourself struggling between choice and necessity. At times, you listen to your heart, but one thing that remains as real as oxygen in this world is the world full of smiles that you imagine for yourself.
Minutes ticked by, long minutes, infinite minutes. After waiting for a while, Swara decided to look at herself in the mirror. After seeing herself, she saw her eyes were tearing up and she tried hiding it the best she could.
For Swara, the sensation was a strange one. She once again looked at her pink bridal lehenga through the mirror. All at once, she brought her hand to her eyes to prevent the tears from falling down. She tried calming her heart beats. She was feeling both nervous and excited at the same time.
"That night he did not rape you," Kabir's words were still lingering in her ears.
After thinking for 2 whole days, she decided to give Sanskar a chance. After listening to his past, her heart screamed to give him a chance.
"Only you can bring him out of darkness," Swara was analysing Kabir' s words.
Then she went back to think how Sanskar behaved when she said that she was ready to marry him.
"Sanskar... I.. that..." Swara was still confused about what to say.
''Speak," Sanskar said a little loudly.
"That.. I am.. ready to marry .. you," Swara said looking down.
There was a hint of happiness in Sanskar's eyes. He tried his best to control himself, yet he could not help but smile.
"Are you sure?" he asked her to confirm that whatever he heard was right.
She just nodded. Sanskar's hands immediately went to hug her.
Sanskar went out and asked Kabir to make all the arrangements and 6 days later, they were going to get married.
Swara was lost in her thoughts when she heard a knock at the door. She wiped her tears.
"I have said to you before too that you don't need to hide your tears from me," Kabir said.
"I am not crying," Swara said.
"So, someone threw water on you?" he asked, wiping off the tears from her cheeks. "Swara, are you happy with this marriage?"
"I was just thinking... I don't know how I cried," she said looking down at her lehenga.
"This is not the answer to my question," he said.
"You said that only I can bring him out of darkness," she said.
"That doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your happiness for him. Your happiness is much more important than his," he said.
"But I am ready to sacrifice for him," she said with confidence in her eyes.
"Why?" he asked, unable to understand what she just said.
"Because I...." she stopped, unable to answer further.
"Because you what?" he asked.
"I don't know why, but I want to sacrifice for him," she said.
Kabir said nothing but just smiled. He kept his hand on her head and went out smiling.
♡♡♡
Swara looked drop-dead gorgeous in her pink lehenga as she walked towards the mandap. She had put her dupatta over her head, which made her look no less than a perfect bride. Her jewellery matched her outfit.
Sanskar, too, looked like a perfect groom in her maroon royal brocade sherwani.
Because of the gush of air, the veil on Swara's face suddenly lifted, and he could not take his eyes off her.
Kabhi gardishon ka maara
Kabhi khwahishon se haara
Roothe chaand ka hai chakor
Zara se bhi samjhote se
Yeh parhez rakhta hai kyun
Maane na kabhi koi zor
Duniya jahaan ki bandishon ki
Yeh kahan parwah kare
Jab kheenche teri dor
Kheenche teri dor...
It was time for both of them to exchange the garland. Sanskar bowed his head down for her to put the garland. Now, it was Sanskar's turn. As he was about to put the garland, Kabir lifted Swara up.
"Not so easily. I won't let you put the garland around my sister's neck so easily," Kabir said.
Hearing the word "my sister ", a tear made its own way out from Swara's eyes.
Sanskar saw tears brimming in her eyes, threatening to fall, and his hands immediately went to her face to wipe them even before those precious drops decided to fall.
But Swara ignored him and hugged Kabir. Kabir was astonished by her sudden hug but reciprocated the hug.
"Bhai," Swara said happily.
Sanskar was feeling jealous seeing both of them in that position and cleared his throat to disturb them.
"Sanskar! Garland," Kabir said to Sanskar who was busy looking at Swara.
"Don't be so jealous," Kabir whispered in Sanskar's ears.
Manchala.. mann chala teri ore
Manchala.. mann chala teri ore
Khamoshiyon ki suraton mein
Dhoondhe tera shor
Dhoondhe tera shor
Manchala.. mann chala teri ore
Manchala.. mann chala teri ore
Kabir tied their knots and the priest chanted the sacred mantra and asked them to take seven rounds around the holy fire while promising each a lifetime of togetherness with each round.
Rookhi-sookhi dil ki hai zameen
Jaane kahan gum hui nami
Meri ummeed hai teri baarishein
Ye sahe kayi baar pyaar ke
Tujhe har baar haar ke
Seekhe phir bhi kabhi nahi saazishein
After the pheras were over the priest called an elderly member to do the kanyadan. Swara's eyes once again got moist thinking about her family, especially her Baba and Ragini.
"I will do the Kanyadaan," Kabir announced.
Swara looked at Kabir and smiled happily. Sanskar thanked Kabir through his eyes. Kabir did the kanyadan.
Ho.. tere liye aaj khud se hi bhaage hain
Himmat ke tukde bator
Ho bhaage zamaane se
Chhup ke dabe paanv jaise koi chor
Jaise koi chor...
Then the panditji asked Sanskar to tie the mangalsutra around her neck and fill vermilion in her hairline.
Manchala.. mann chala teri ore
Manchala.. mann chala teri ore
Khamoshiyon ki suraton mein
Dhoondhe tera shor
Dhoondhe tera shor
Manchala.. mann chala teri ore..
Sanskar looked at Swara and smiled proudly. Finally, she became his. Swara Sanskar Maheswari. She was with him and nothing else mattered to him in the world. Suddenly, the world seemed like a better place to live in.
Finally, they were bound in a thread of marriage together, forever.
♡♡♡
Sanskar was surrounded by his business clients and friends who were congratulating him on his marriage.
While passing them, he heard two people talking about him. So, he decided to stop and overhear their conversation.
"I think the girl whom Mr.Sanskar Maheswari married is a slut,", one of the men said.
"No, the girl looks decent," the other man said.
"We all know how Sanskar is. If that girl is not a slut then she must definitely be a gold digger. Why will any girl marry him without any motive?" the first man asked.
Sanskar couldn't stand it anymore. He clenched his hands into a tight fist. He was going to punch that man but stopped mid way. He was rethinking their words.
"Why did Swara marry me?" he asked himself.
"She definitely married me for money. There's no other reason for her to marry me," his conscience screamed at him.
"No, she can never do that. I know her better. She is not a gold digger. She is very innocent. I trust her," a voice again came from within him.
"Innocence is the mask which people wear to betray others," a voice again came.
"Shut up!" Sanskar shouted.
♡♡♡
Swara was standing in the middle of the room, waiting for Sanskar anxiously. Then she heard heavy steps which were coming in her direction. Sanskar opened the door and walked in.
"Sanskar..." Swara was about to say something.
"Kavita is shifting here tomorrow," Sanskar said without looking at her face.
"What? But why?" Swara asked.
"What do you mean by why? This is my house and I will decide who will stay in my house not you," Sanskar said.
Swara was very angry. She was his wife but he was still interested in Kavita.
"I won't live in this room with you," Swara said.
"Who said I will share the same room with you? Tonight, I will sleep in another room and from tomorrow I will live in Kavita's room," Sanskar said.
"How disgusting!', Swara muttered under her breath.
"Do you want me to live in the same room with you?" Sanskar whispered near Swara's ears.
"Oh heavens, no! I will throw the first thing which comes in my hand if you don't stop your illogical arguments," Swara shouted.
"Don't be so jealous," Sanskar said.
"Leave! You're well satisfied with yourself. Someone else's dream and happiness don't matter to you. Burn down with your ego," Swara shouted while throwing a pillow at him again.
Sanskar smiled while going out of the room. Swara stiffened slightly, thinking she had been a little rude. She thought she could have ended the conversation better and could have said a couple of sentences that meant nothing, just to calm him down.
