Shot 24
Chaahat stared at the mail she typed for a few seconds before pressing the send key.
It is done.
After thinking over it for the last two days, she finally did it.
It is for the best, Chaahat. She told herself.
She shut down her laptop and let out a relieved sigh.
Her phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Uncle Madan.
"Hello Uncle, how are you?" Chaahat asked, as soon as she picked up the call.
"Much much better, Chaahat. It has been a worry for a while, the way you closed yourself off from the world. Now I can sleep peacefully at night with the satisfaction that I gave you to someone who will look after you well" Uncle Madan said and regret filled her.
How will he react when he realises that the marriage is only temporary. He will be heartbroken. He will feel betrayed. He might even regret ever taking up her responsibility.
"You are happy, right?" Uncle Madan asked and his uncertainty was evident in his voice.
Did he really expect her to move on once she got married? Did he think it was that easy?
"I am trying, Uncle" she said, stopping herself from telling either an outright lie or the plain truth.
She heard Uncle Madan sighing.
"I know it is difficult for you. Mithran, he has a heart of gold. He might act all macho bad boy, but deep down he is full of love. We didn't set a good example for him, so he might be a little apprehensive of accepting a marriage I forced on you two. But I know he cares for you. I can see that in the way he looks at you, the way he talks about you. Give him a chance, Chaahat. He will keep you in his heart his whole life" Uncle Madan said.
She gulped as she felt a sob building up in her.
Give Mithran a chance? For what? To have her heart broken again? To die of pain once again?
No! Better to keep him away.
"Anyways, Mithran was saying that he is going to Delhi for a wedding in two weeks. You will be going with him, right?" Madan asked
"Uh No.." Chaahat said, startled at that question.
"You should go, Chaahat. Maybe going there would give you closure" Madan said softly.
Will it? Will it give her closure?
After talking over a few more minutes, they hung up the call.
"Chaahat, I have done all my work. Do you want me to do anything else before I go?" Suma, the househelp asked.
"No Akka. Thank you" Chaahat said and Suma left.
Chaahat's phone rang yet again, but this time it was an unknown number.
"Can I speak to Ms Chaahat?" the person on the other side asked.
"Yes, speaking"
"Good afternoon, Madam. This is from the HR Dept of K - Fab. We received your email and had processed it to our CEO, but the application was rejected. We have mailed you regarding the same. But the CEO wishes to meet you in person" the woman on the other side of the phone said.
VK wants to meet her? Why in the hell?
"A table has been booked for four in the evening. A mail will be forwarded regarding the details. Please be there, Ma'am"

Chaahat reached the cafe at sharp four in the evening and found VK waiting for her at a corner table.
She has only met him once before. The day she joined K-fab after passing the campus interview. She worked as an intern for three months in K-fab. Then the unfortunate and tragic incident happened. She was going into depression when she received the call letter from K-fab. She had taken it up immediately and opted for work from home. Her works were faultless and they had agreed to her demand.
"Good evening, Mr Khoda" she greeted him.
"Ms Chaahat" He gestured to her to take a seat.
"Why did you want to meet me?" She asked straight to the point and VK's lips twitched, but it didn't move.
"When you joined K-fab, you signed a five year contract, Ms Chaahat" VK pointed out and Chaahat sighed.
Yes. She did. When the offer letter came, she was too depressed. She just signed it, without giving much importance to the contract date.
"I would like to resign, Mr Khoda," Chaahat said, without giving any explanations.
"You were made a member of the inner designer circle of K-fab a few months ago, Ms Chaahat. You are privy to a lot of our brand details which are confidential. There is no way you can resign" Vedant Khoda said coldly.
"I have no intention of giving away company details to other brands, Mr Khoda," Chaahat said.
"I am not a fool to take you up on your word" VK said with disdain. He trusts nobody. When it comes to trust issues, he can be a very good competitor to Chaahat.
"I can sign any non-disclosure agreements. I need to leave the company" Chaahat said.
"Does this have anything to do with your recent marriage to Mr Mithran Yadav?" Vedant asked, startling Chaahat.
How the hell did he know about her secret wedding?
"Don't look so shocked, Ms Chaahat. I keep track of all my employees. I will be informed if anything suspicious happens in their life. And your association with Yadav brings suspicions" Vedant said.
"Mithran is an architect. He has nothing to do with the fashion industry. Then how can my association with Mithran be suspicious" Chaahat asked, not liking Mithran being blamed for something totally out of his sphere.
"It is not necessary to be in the same field to be rivals," Vedant said.
"Chaahat? What are you doing here? With Vedant Khoda?" The voice startled both Chaahat and Vedant.
