i woke up and i felt the pain go through my body. i groaned slightly at my aching body.

   "owwie," i said sitting up on my bed.

   i heard a creaking sound to see my little sister with tears welling up in her eyes.

   "alec?" she said running towards me and hugging me. she sobbed and i felt the wetness on my shirt.

   my mom walked in and her frown was replaced with a soft smile at the sight. she let them have their moment for a bit.

   she broke the silence with "sweetheart, how do you feel?". her voice drenched in worry.

   " everything hurts," i said frowning as i looked at my mostly bandaged body.

   "i'm sorry, baby. i'm so sorry" she said hugging me and crying. saying it over and over as she rubbed comforting circles on my back.

   "i'm sorry that we can't just run away and get us a better life. i'm sorry that i'm barely here. i'm sorry that you didn't have the childhood you deserve. i'm sorry for marrying that man. i'm so so sorry that you have to be in pain because of me. i'm sorry that we can't treat you in a hospital cause that man has taken everything for us that i can't support you" she continued and her never-ending tears slid down her face. a frown took over my face and i felt my eyes welling up with tears too.

   "mommy, don't cry. i don't want you to be sad and you don't look pretty when you're sad"

   "what did i do to deserve such great children?"

   after a bit, we all calmed down. mommy was replacing my bandages and then it hit me.

   "mommy, what time is it?" i asked.

   "it's 7. 30 pm," she said focusing on my bandages.

   "oh no- owwie" i yelped in pain.

   "sorry, dear. mommy will try to be more gentle"

   "mommy, i need to go!" i said trying to run to my backpack, but was held back as my mom sat me in place.

   "you can go after i clean your wounds," she said sternly and i couldn't do anything except to nod and sit there.

   i grabbed my pyjamas, my toothbrush and toothpaste. i also grabbed my homework just in case with my stationary. i ran downstairs and grabbed a snack. i put on my sneakers and my jacket, knowing that it's cold, and ran out.

   i saw the park at the distance and my body went faster. even if everything hurts, it's worth it.

   i see evan's back, sitting at the swings. he heard my footsteps and looked behind and the sight broke my heart.

   his face was dusted in pink as he let out a cold breath. he was shivering and hugged himself as his life depended on it. his face went from confusion into a smile.

   "ale-" he was caught off by himself as he sneezed.

   "oh no," i said as i grabbed my jacket and put on his smaller body. since he was smaller than me it fit around him comfortably.

   "yo-you came," he said his teeth chattering. he was still visibly really cold.

   "come here," i said as i hugged him tightly as i tried to get him warmer. i can feel the weird things in my stomach again but ignored it. i can feel him snuggling in, probably without knowing but it still made my heart do backflips.

   "i thou-thought yo-yo-you weren't gonna co-come" his small voice, muffled slightly.

   "i would drop anything for you" i softly said. my hand going through his soft waves of hair. his hugs, smell, cute face, how he acts, everything about him is so addicting. i don't ever wanna let go.

"promise that you're not gonna leave me?"

"promise."

   she walked in the room to check on his brother to see an empty room

   "mommy!" she screamed and she heard a faint 'what is it, sweetheart?'

  "where's al?"

   footsteps echo and the door opened

   "wha-"
