Ch26 Soft Hearted

"And where would these strings go?" asked Ben

"Right now, on the table would be fine," answered Luke, snatching the decoration from his hands and keeping it on the table.

"Hey! See, aren't these fairy lights? They are, right? Cause they do not look like fairies. The label says fairy lights though." asked Nathan, fumbling with fairy lights, tangling them in the process.

"Can you just keep that down? You are going to ruin them at this rate," said Luke, jumping up and snatching the wires from Nathan's grasp.

"Oh! look at that, aren't those prom decorations?" I asked, pointing at the bags in the corner of the storage rooms, containing decorations that looked suspiciously like prom ones.

"Yeah but we are not here for that, prom has like still a month left," Luke said, gathering all the decorations for which we come here in the first place. "Come and help me carry this," he added in frustration.

We all grabbed a bag and carried it to the staff room where Mr. Davis awaited us. Settling the bags down, we started gathering the items according to his list.

"Sir, if you don't mind me asking, what is the occasion for which this decoration is required?" asked Luke.

"Oh! We have a teacher's party, it's not much just a small thing that the principal organizes every year before we take your exams," he answered.

"How come we, students never have something like that?" asked Ben, sadly ruffling the decors.

"You guys have prom, don't you?" Mr. Davis argued.

"But teachers come to prom too, don't they," Nathan argued back.

"They don't have their exams, don't they?" He replied smugly. Nathan pouted but still followed him as he made the piles of usable and unusable decorations. It even had popped balloons in it.

"It's not common to have students at teacher's party but some students, if they volunteer can maybe come to the party." Mr. Davis said quietly.

"Really! I can do that, and Ben too." Nathan shouted dancing around as Ben nodded too.

"Yeah, me too." I agreed and looked at Noah who nodded as well.

"But we do have exams," argued Luke.

"Yeah, and I think it'll be better if you guys prepare for finals and work on your college applications," said Mr. Davis sternly.

"Yeah, but it'll be just 1 day. And we are studying hard, Luke made us do a whole 5-chapter revision yesterday," whined Nathan.

Mr. Davis sighed and said, "How about I ask some of your teachers, and if they think you guys are fine to attend then why not, we can invite some more students, who unfortunately have to be good in studies."

"But please don't ask Mr. Cruz." pleaded Nathan.

"Yeah, he'll never agree." cried Ben.

"He is not that bad." Mr. Davis said laughing.

"That's what I said, but they never agree."  joined Luke.

"Look children, he may look like he is plotting murder in his head all the time, but he is actually a really sweet person." He explained but Ben just snorted.

"If you guys ever saw at home, you guys wouldn't be that scared. He roams around in his pajamas 99% time and his hair is always a mess. When he used to live with us, he actually had just 5 pairs of clothes, 3 of them were his pajamas." Mr. Davis laughed at the memory.

"Then why is he so strict to us?" Ben whined.

"He believes that at least one teacher has to be strict or else students would not respect their studies, which I agree to as well," explained Luke.

Before Nathan could tease Luke about being an encyclopedia, the bell interrupted us. And Mr. Davis pushed us all out to attend Mr. Cruz's lecture.

After what seemed like hours, the bell finally rang signaling the end of the school hours.

"We will be continuing the revision tomorrow as well and the day after tomorrow is a holiday so we will end this all tomorrow. Don't just rely on me, study by yourselves as well at home." Mr. Cruz went on and on about revisions as all the students clutched their packed bags waiting for Mr. Cruz to end his after-lecture lecture. "Peter, Noah, Luke, Nathan, Ben, you all will stay back," he said at the end which paralyzed us in shock. All the students ran out leaving us dreading on our spot.

"Yes sir, you asked for us?" Luke said going to his desk first, as we all followed behind him slowly.

"Don't worry, I just wanted to talk to you about the teacher's party," he explained, and we sighed in relief. "Your Mr. Davis told me that you guys want to volunteer."

"But sir, when did he tell you? We directly came here after talking to Mr. Davis." I asked, confused.

Mr. Cruz looked flustered as he avoided eye contact and cleared his throat. "He texted me, but that's not the topic here. You guys have shown consistent improvement in your studies and I don't see any harm in allowing you. But keep in mind, you are volunteering, that means working, Are you sure you want to do that? You could study in those hours."

"No sir, if we study any more, I think my brain will explode." Ben pleaded dramatically.

"Yes sir, we have no problem with work," I assured.

"Okay then you can leave, be there the day after tomorrow in school hours," he said dismissively.

We left the class and made our way to where our cycles were parked.

"Did you see him look at his phone during the lecture?" asked Luke. And we shook our heads in no. "Then how can he know about it?"

"Do you think he has magical powers!" exclaimed Ben.

"Or like some telepathic connection?" asked Nathan. As Luke rolled his eyes, at this rate, I am afraid he would have eye damage.

"Didn't you guys notice he was talking on call when we entered the class?" said Noah slapping the back of Nathan's and Ben's heads.

"That's so cute, they talk to each other even if they have a little time before class," said Ben with hearty eyes.

"Yeah, and imagine them at the teacher's party, won't it be so good? I am dying to see Mr. Davis realize how in love Mr. Cruz is with him,"  exclaimed Ben.

"I don't know why I have a great feeling about this party," said Noah.

"Hey, we have already pushed ourselves from the cliff one time, no more funny business Noah," warned Luke.

"No I wasn't thinking about it, I was just saying I have a good feeling about this party, nothing else." Noah said cheekily as Luke rolled his eyes again.

I had a good feeling about it too, but still, there is a little anxiousness in the back of my mind. I just hope this party goes by without any problems, and if we get to see our favorite teachers smitten with each other then I would just consider that as a bonus. *insert evil laughter*
