They eventually settled on Steve's new name.

Zed.

Peter had suggested it, saying that it was fitting, since zombies were undead and Steve was technically undead but zombie sounded evil rather than good.

Tony had protested, thinking that perhaps it would be too obvious who Steve was, but his younger apprentice insisted that shortening it to Zed would throw anybody off. Hopefully.

And besides, it was also just a letter.

So why not?

Steve had made his first public appearance as Zed while fighting a team of HYDRA-related terrorists attempting to infiltrate the Pentagon.  He got some attention, for being a 'new' member, but not nearly so much as he did when he was Captain America.

But he didn't envy Bucky in the slightest.  His friend had had too much hardness and destruction in his life, he needed the title more than he did.  Unfortunately, the title came with its own share of danger and hatred.

Clint recovered and officially retired, threatening Tony that if he tried to rope him into another mission, he'd make his life hell.  The city of New York gave him a huge retirement party.

Life was never normal for any of the Avengers, but it had gone back to that kind-of normal state they resided in.
