Chapter 19 -- The Man Out of Time
The following article ran on the front page of The New York Times, August 23, 2016.
Captain Rogers Dead, But Captain America Lives On
"America's favorite super soldier was killed in action in Central Park just over a week ago. On the 20th, a memorial was erected in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D. C. But Captain America, it appears, will live on.
"The Avengers have publicly announced that James Buchanan 'Bucky' Barnes will be taking his childhood friend's place as the Man Out of Time. Barnes declined to speak at the pre-arranged press conference last night.
"Tony Stark, longtime teammate and friend of Rogers, stated that, 'The Avengers are going to continue to protect the victims of HYDRA and other terrorist organizations. Unfortunately, these groups won't take a break for us to honor Steve, but we hope that by continuing his legacy, his memory will live on.'
"When asked what happened to Project X, nicknamed Chimera, Stark merely stated that her remains had been sent back to where they belong. Whether that is with Nazi-born terrorist organization HYDRA or somewhere else, he wouldn't say.
"Sam Wilson, another close friend of Steve Rogers, stated that Barnes would still be using the same uniform, with a few modifications. What those were, we don't know. But when Barnes came out, wearing the suit, it appeared to be the same as the one Rogers wore when he was killed in action.
"Spider-man, who refused to tell the press his real name, was asked about his relationship with Rogers. He stated that he 'definitely looked up to him. Definitely. But it was a little more than that, I guess. It's hard to explain, but I would definitely say he was my friend.'
"A reporter for the San Jose Times asked if the Avengers knew the whereabouts of HYDRA. Stark stated that they had an idea, and swiftly ended the press conference."
