How To Get More Reads *Updating*
These are all ways that you can get more reads. Los of these are personal experiences from me on my other account. Hope these help!
Questioning
At the end of each chapter in your book, put a question to do with your story. This encourages people to comment. For example: "Is it just me who ships Jake and Eliza?"
Read for read, vote for vote
When you have a new follower, or you just want to write on someone message's board, it's nice to ask them 'read for read?'. This means you read their story, and they will read your's, a piece of advice from experience, if after a week they don't read your story then go back and ask them why, if they don't answer then just unfollow them and take away your votes if you can.
(MusicSportsLove )
Look up stories that are similar to yours.
Or
You can write 'vote for vote' which is like 'rfr' but instead of just reading each other's stories you vote on them too!
Note: be careful when asking rfr or vfv because if you do this too often then you will have a huge list of books you need to read and possibly not enough time to read them all!
Reading Lists:
Maybe you could have one reading list, in this just add loads of random peoples books (you don't even have to read their books), sometimes they will add your story to their reading list too (as a way of saying thank you).
This is good, because it is is a lot less time consuming than reading their stories.
Be sure to have another reading list maybe called 'favourites' or something, other wise others may be confused and think that your reading list in the stories you have read.
Commenting
When you read other's stories be sure to comment a lot! (At least once a chapter).
Not only does this notify the reader that you are reading their story, when others go to comment they will see your comment. If they think your comment is good (eg. Funny, interesting, useful) they may check out your account. Which will lead to them seeing your story and possibly reading it.
Replying
When someone comments on your story something nice (eg. I like your book or maybe you should vary your punctuation) be sure to reply to them! This shows your thanks and that you appreciate them reading your story. Doing this means they are more likely to continue reading on.
About
Your 'about' should be about you. Don't make it too long or too short.
Make your about be about you by maybe saying somethings about yourself or things you like. When others read this they may think i like the same things as this person does! Or i like this person!
If they like the look of your about they are more likely to follow you and read your story.
Account name
Try to avoid names like '@12345'. These account names aren't great. This is because your account name is the first thing a person will see. This is the first thing they will think about you.
Try to make your account name something that suits you.
Eg. If you like dogs have a username like @i_love_dogs
This means if you have another person spot your account, who also like dogs, they're more likely to look at your account!
A good cover (notyouraveragesofa )
Although the saying goes "don't judge a book by it's cover", sadly, most people do. A cover is an important part of your story! It should include: your account name, your story name, a picture or back ground that is similar to you story (if you story is about dogs, don't have a flower cover) and possibly a sub-title.
If you cannot make a cover yourself just search 'cover shop' and there are so many great graphic designers out there who make amazing graphics, who'd make you one as well!
(I get my graphics from Crystique and Forevermylene so you could possibly ask them!)
Or, i'd be quite happy to make you a cover myself (but there would be a payment-eg. Follow, add my books to your reading list etc.)
A good description (notyouraveragesofa )
A good description is more likely to get more reads. Make sure the description is relevant to your book, make sure you include some basic information about what your book is about and should make you want to read on.
Follow back
If you didn't know already, followers are great at reading your stories! The more followers the more reads!
Some people don't see any point in following people unless they follow back, so i recommend following back your followers
Making Friends (notyouraveragesofa )
If you came on Wattpad just to read and write, that is understandable, however Wattpad if full of wonderful people from most ages, there is bound to be someone out there to be your friend. I'm not saying to purposely make friends just to use them to read your books, but it is likely that the more friends you have the more readers you have!
Be friendly
If you go around Wattpad spreading hate and not being nice to people, no one will want to read your stories. Be friendly and kind to everyone on Wattpad. Maybe set a goal to compliment 3 people on Wattpad every week :)
Don't force (notyouraveragesofa )
Don't force your books onto people, let the readers come naturally. - don't spam other people to read your books.
Promotion (MusicSportsLove )
If you have social media accounts or other website accounts, you can use them to promote. Or/and you can get in contact with big fan accounts and ask them to give your book a change
Voting
Make sure to vote on every chapter, it makes the author aware of your presence and shows your support to their book.
Followers
When someone follows you, show them that you appreciate the follow by writing a message on their message board (conversations) saying 'thank you for the follow, i hope you enjoy my works and i can't wait to check out some of the work you've done too. Have a nice day <3' this is just an example, you can say whatever nice message you like. Try and make it personal and creative- personally, i like it when people write quotes to me.
Common Interests
There are millions of people on Wattpad, which means your guaranteed to find people here with the same interests as you. For example, if you like a certain movie, actor etc. Then engage with people who like the same things as you.
Updating
Readers will grow uninterested in your book if you leave it ages to update. Make sure you update regularity and try to have a plan:
Eg: write on Monday-Friday
Edit on Saturday
Publish on Sunday
(Some people will take longer to write than others or will be busy but just try to update at least once a month.
Chapter Length
Try and keep your chapters around 2000 words (less for poetry and short story etc.) as too long chapters may be difficult to read while being busy and too short chapters will be disappointing and it's hard to get into the story when there is such short chapters.
Cliff Hangers
End each chapter of a cliff hanger so that the readers want to go to the next chapter.
Linking
When using other social media to advertise your works, include the link of your book so that it's easy and quick for people to look at and read it.
Contests And Awards
Enter in lots of contests and awards, usually it's a quick and easy. Other people in the award will see your story and account but also if you win the awards then you can put the sticker on your book or say the description/first chapter '1st Place Winner Of....' and people will think it's a good book because it's won a contest.

I will edit this later, but for now here it is! :)
