He's Awake
(Warning ⚠️: Mention of blood.)
After bringing the man to my house, I patched up his head. Once I made sure that the guy was still alive, meaning I saved him, I then treated his cuts and bruises that are relatively new as the cuts are closed off and the bruises are fading, and yet it seems like the injuries lacked being taken care of properly.
It has been many hours since I treated the man's injuries. It is now morning, and he has yet to wake up. I haven't even gotten breakfast yet from how worried I am for this man. So I am currently in the guest bedroom, where I have left the man to rest unconscious. I walk around the room in circles, waiting for the man to hopefully wake up. I want to try my best to make sure that I am there the moment the man wakes up. That way, I can immediately tend to him. I do hope he wakes up today or tomorrow, as I have no work.
I wouldn't want to call the hospital and say that I'm not gonna go to work. I also don't want to carry the body all the way to the hospital as it could be risky due to the serious condition the man is in, nor do I want to call for an ambulance, as it is quite difficult to get near my house by car, as the path would be too bumpy, and the ride would interrupt the body from healing. Letting the man rest here is the best option right now.
-------------------------------------------------------------
After waiting a while, I decided to make myself some breakfast. Once I ate, I went back to the guest room. I sat down on the desk chair and began reading a book to clear my mind as I waited for the man to wake up. Earlier, when I treated the man's injuries, I noticed that he was very skinny. You could almost see the outline of his bones on his chest. I'll make sure to give him a meal as soon as he wakes up.
After a few hours of reading in the room, I hear some small grunts on the bed. I look up from my book to see the man stirring awake. Once he opens his eyes it takes him a second to realize that he is in an unknown place. His immediate reaction is to sit up quickly in alarm. But that results him in feeling dizzy as he grumbles and puts a hand onto his head. On instinct, I abruptly get up from my seat due to the man's actions and say, "Careful. If you don't take it easy, you might end up unconscious again."
The man pauses at the sound of my voice. He then looks up and turns his head to look at me. I notice that his face slightly pales in fear. We stare at each other for a good moment. In that moment, I notice that the man has heterochromia. One eye is brown and the other is a vibrant blue that I've never seen anyone else have. It kind of looks like a diamond. It's beautiful. Almost... enchanting.
I snap out of my thoughts. You can think about his appearance later. Right now, I need to take care of a patient. I take a few steps towards the bed. My movement makes the man jump back a bit in fear, making me stop. You know what, I better stay in place for a bit. I don't wanna scare him. I stay quiet for a second before saying carefully, "I... don't know what happened to you, but I found you unconscious with a worrying head injury at the forest edge. So I took you to my house so that I could treat your injuries."
He calms down a bit after hearing that. He then takes a proper look around at the room, realization of what's going on setting in. After a moment, I ask, "Is it possible... for you to tell me what happened? Why have you gotten so many injuries?"
The man snaps his head towards me and starts shaking it, clearly stating 'no'. Guess he doesn't feel comfortable. I exclaim hurriedly to reassure him, "O-okay, okay! I understand. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."
Normally, if we were at the hospital, I would calmy try to encourage him to tell me. But this isn't the hospital. I'm not working right now. I am helping someone out of the goodness of my heart right now. If he doesn't want to tell me, he doesn't have to. I just want to make sure he's okay. After the man calms down, I say, "Um, my name is Badboyhalo. What's yours?"
The man looks at me with widened eyes, panic evident in them. But he blinks the panic away, trying to compose himself. After contemplating for a moment, he looks down and says, "Skeppy..."
His voice comes out small and shaky, almost like he's scared to use his voice. I say, "Okay, Skeppy... how do you feel? Do you feel any sort of pain anywhere?"
"Um, no. Not really... I mostly feel numb. Maybe if you poke at my injury, it would hurt or something. I did feel a bit dizzy when I woke up, but it's gone now."
Huh. That's interesting. He should at least feel some sort of pain on his head since the injury was very bad. I snap out of my thoughts to Skeppy, asking, "Did you... check my whole body for injuries?"
"Hmm, pretty much."
That makes him jolt his head to look at me with wide eyes. He says, "Really? E-everything!? Even under my clothes!?"
"OH- well- I didn't take off your rags- clothes- if that's what you're worried about. You didn't really consent to that after all. But honestly, that isn't much of a problem since your clothes aren't stained with blood. So I wasn't really worried about checking under your clothes. I only lifted up your shirt a bit to check if your chest had any injuries. I treated the few bruises that I found there."
"So- you only saw my chest?"
"Yes. ...Why do you ask?"
"Oh-! Um, no reason!"
I stare at him for a moment. He's clearly lying, but I'll let it slide. He clearly isn't very comfortable with my presence. Suddenly, a thought occurs in my head. I say, "Um, if you don't mind... can I unwrap the bandage on your head? I want to check on how the injury is doing."
After thinking about it for a second, Skeppy slowly nods at me. I carefully step closer to the side of the bed, as if sudden movement will alarm Skeppy. I then reach my hands out to Skeppy's head, and I start unwrapping the bandage there. Once I do so, I am slightly surprised upon seeing that the injury is better than I expected it to. I did some stitching on the injury to make sure that it wouldn't bleed more, but I expected for the injury to still look very red, waiting for the wound to reopen so that it will bleed again, or for there to be a lot of dried blood. Instead, the wound looks mostly pinkish, and there is barely any sign of blood previously spilling from the wound, as there is almost no dried blood. How is it possible that the injury is healing so quickly? This would look normal if a couple of days have passed, but it is only the day after that the wound has been made. Skeppy snaps me out of my thoughts by asking, "Is everything okay?"
Oops. Look like I was lost in thought for too long. I say, "Oh, no everything is fine. Actually- better than fine. You are healing faster than I expected."
Skeppy looks a bit uncomfortable at the mention, but he nods and says, "Oh, I see. ...That's good."
His attitude at the revelation of him healing faster than he should be is a bit off, but I decide to shrug it off. I say, "I was a bit hesitant at first, but since your head injury doesn't look too bad right now, I think it would be okay for you to take a shower."
Skeppy perks up at that. He says cautiously, "...A shower?"
"Yeah. You're quite dirty, so it would be a good idea for you to get cleaned right now. As you take your shower, I'll make us something to eat."
The slight quiet enthusiasm that seemed to be displayed in Skeppy's eyes quickly died down at the mention of food. (Our poor boy is traumatized from poisoned food.) Nevertheless, he nods and simply says, "Okay."
I nod back at him and then turn around, walking towards the bedroom door to leave. Before I exit through the doorway, I look behind me towards Skeppy and say, "Stay here for a moment. I'll get some clothes for you since... the rags that you have on right now aren't really that great. You're probably uncomfortable in those, so I'll get you something comfortable. After I get the clothes, I'll show you where the bathroom is so that you can take a shower."
"Okay... sounds good. ...Thank you."
I smile at that. I then leave the room to find some clothes for Skeppy.
