Chapter 9
Leonid and I made our way to the boxcar as slick and fast as possible. We carefully jumped from cart to cart and tried not to get caught. We made it to the baggage car and quietly opened the door, looking around to be sure no one spotted us, and walked in closing the door behind us.
"Lets move to the back. That way we're more hidden and not spotted that easily." Leonid suggested.
"Good Idea," I said. I looked around and saw a pile of luggage by the back, "Let's go there," I said pointing to the luggage, "That way we're more hidden."
Leonid nodded and grabbed my hand. We moved quickly to the back and crouched down behind the luggage. We sat there quietly, both of us holding our breaths in suspense. We sat there for what felt like hours, quietly watching the train staff bring in luggage from new passengers. After a bit longer, the people eventually stopped coming. Leonid finally quietly spoke up.
"I think they have stopped," he said, referring to the people coming in and out of the boxcar, "I think we're safe for now."
"Agreed. But we should continue hiding. We never know what will happen next."
Leonid nodded in agreement, "That is True. We need to stay as safe as possible," Leonid paused for a moment, "Why hasn't the train started moving? Surely it must have by now."
"I don't know. Surely there must be a good reason for it."
Leonid was about to speak up, when we heard an oddly familiar muffled voice behind the door.
